Input-to-state stability of infinite-dimensional control systems

We develop tools for investigation of input-to-state stability (ISS) of infinite-dimensional control systems. We show that for certain classes of admissible inputs the existence of an ISS-Lyapunov function implies the input-to-state stability of a system. Then for the case of systems described by abstract equations in Banach spaces we develop two methods of construction of local and global ISS-Lyapunov functions. We prove a linearization principle that allows a construction of a local ISS-Lyapunov function for a system which linear approximation is ISS. In order to study interconnections of nonlinear infinite-dimensional systems, we generalize the small-gain theorem to the case of infinite-dimensional systems and provide a way to construct an ISS-Lyapunov function for an entire interconnection, if ISS-Lyapunov functions for subsystems are known and the small-gain condition is satisfied. We illustrate the theory on examples of linear and semilinear reaction-diffusion equations.

Input-to-state stability of interconnected hybrid systems

We consider the interconnections of arbitrary topology of a finite number of ISS hybrid systems and study whether the ISS property is maintained for the overall system. We show that if the small gain condition is satisfied, then the whole network is ISS and show how a non-smooth ISS-Lyapunov function can be explicitly constructed in this case.

Stability of interconnected impulsive systems with and without time-delays using Lyapunov methods

In this paper we consider input-to-state stability (ISS) of impulsive control systems with and without time-delays. We prove that if the time-delay system possesses an exponential Lyapunov-Razumikhin function or an exponential Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, then the system is uniformly ISS provided that the average dwell-time condition is satisfied. Then, we consider large-scale networks of impulsive systems with and without time-delays and we prove that the whole network is uniformly ISS under a small-gain and a dwell-time condition. Moreover, these theorems provide us with tools to construct a Lyapunov function (for time-delay systems - a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional or a Lyapunov-Razumikhin function) and the corresponding gains of the whole system, using the Lyapunov functions of the subsystems and the internal gains, which are linear and satisfy the small-gain condition. We illustrate the application of the main results on examples.

Input-to-state stabilization of the perturbed systems in the generalized triangular form

We consider nonlinear control systems of the so-called generalized triangular form (GTF) with time-varying and periodic dynamics which linearly depends on some external disturbances. Our purpose is to construct a feedback controller which provides the global input-to-state stability of the corresponding closed-loop w.r.t. the disturbances. To do this, we combine the method proposed in the earlier work \cite{pavlichkov_ge_2009} devoted the the global asymptotic stabilization of the GTF systems without disturbances with the ISS theory for time-varying systems proposed in \cite{wang}. Following this pattern we construct a feedback which provides the properties of uniform global stability and asymptotic gain w.r.t the disturbances. Then we obtain the semi-uniform ISS of the closed-loop system.

A small gain condition for interconnections of ISS systems with mixed ISS characterizations

We consider interconnected nonlinear systems with external inputs, where each of the subsystems is assumed to be input-to-state stable (ISS). Sufficient conditions of small gain type are provided guaranteeing that the interconnection is ISS with respect to the external input. To this end we extend recently obtained small gain theorems to a more general type of interconnections. The small gain theorem provided here is applicable to situations where the ISS conditions are formulated differently for each subsystem and are either given in the maximization or the summation sense. Furthermore it is shown that the conditions are compatible in the sense that it is always possible to transform sum formulations to maximum formulations without destroying a given small gain condition. An example shows the advantages of our results in comparison with the known ones.

An ISS Small-Gain Theorem for General Networks

We provide a generalized version of the nonlinear small-gain theorem for the case of more than two coupled input-to-state stable (ISS) systems. For this result the interconnection gains are described in a nonlinear gain matrix and the small-gain condition requires bounds on the image of this gain matrix. The condition may be interpreted as a nonlinear generalization of the requirement that the spectral radius of the gain matrix is less than one. We give some interpretations of the condition in special cases covering two subsystems, linear gains, linear systems and an associated artificial dynamical system.
