Hexagonal 3-webs of circles with polar twisted cubic

The paper describes and classifies hexagonal circular 3-webs on unit sphere such that the polar points of the web circles lie on a twisted cubic, thus completing classification of hexagonal circular 3-webs with algebraic polar curves of degree three.

Hexagonal Circular 3-Webs with Reducible Polar Curves of Degree Three

The paper reports the progress with the classical problem, posed by Blaschke and Bol in 1938. We present new examples and new classifications of natural classes of hexagonal circular 3-webs. The main results is the classification of hexagonal circular 3-webs with reducible polar curves of degree 3 and description of hexagonal circular 3-webs admitting a one-parameter Möbius symmetry.

Integrable geodesic flows with simultaneously diagonalisable quadratic integrals

We show that if $n$ functionally independent commutative quadratic in momenta integrals for the geodesic flow of a Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian metric on an $n$-dimensional manifold are simultaneously diagonalisable at the tangent space to every point, then they come from the Stäckel construction, so the metric admits orthogonal separation of variables.

Integrable geodesic flow in 3D and webs of maximal rank

We characterize geodesic flows, admitting two commuting quadratic integrals with common principal directions, in terms of the geodesic 4-webs such that the tangents to the web leaves are common zero directions of the integrals. We prove that, under some natural geometric hypothesis, the metric is of Stäckel type.

Fractional-linear integrals of geodesic flows on surfaces and Nakai's geodesic 4-webs

We prove that if the geodesic flow on a surface has an integral, fractional-linear in momenta, then the dimension of the space of such integrals is either 3 or 5, the latter case corresponding to constant gaussian curvature. We give also a geometric criterion for existence of fractional-linear integrals: such integral exists if and only if the surface carries a geodesic 4-web with constant cross-ratio of the four directions tangent to the web leaves.

Darboux integrability for diagonal systems of hydrodynamic type

We prove that 1) diagonal systems of hydrodynamic type are Darboux integrable if and only if the corresponding systems for commuting flows are Darboux integrable, 2) systems for commuting flows are Darboux integrable if and only if the Laplace transformation sequences terminate, 3) Darboux integrable systems are necessarily semihamiltonian. We give geometric interpretation for Darboux integrability of such systems in terms of congruences of lines and in terms of solution orbits with respect to symmetry subalgebras, discuss known and new examples.

Duality for systems of conservation laws

For one-dimensional systems of conservation laws admitting two additional conservation laws we assign a ruled surface of codimension two in projective space. We call two such systems dual if the corresponding ruled surfaces are dual. We show that a Hamiltonian system is autodual, its ruled surface sits in some quadric, and the generators of this ruled surface form a Legendre submanifold for the contact structure on Fano variety of this quadric. We also give a complete geometric description of 3-component nondiagonalizable systems of Temple class: such systems admit two additional conservation laws, they are dual to systems with constant characteristic speeds, constructed via maximal rank 3-webs of curves in space.

Confocal conics and 4-webs of maximal rank

Confocal conics form an orthogonal net. Supplementing this net with one of the following: 1) the net of Cartesian coordinate lines aligned along the principal axes of conics, 2) the net of Apollonian pencils of circles whose foci coincide with the foci of conics, 3) the net of tangents to a conic of the confocal family, we get a planar 4-web. We show that each of these 4-webs is of maximal rank and characterize confocal conics from the web theory viewpoint.

Projective invariants of linear 3-webs and Gronwall's Conjecture

We present a projectively invariant description of planar linear 3-webs. For a non-hexagonal 3-web, we introduce family of projective torsion-free Cartan connections, the web leaves being geodesics for each member of the family, and give a web linearization criterion. Finally, we propose an algorithm for resolving the Gronwall conjecture and illustrate this approach by proving the conjecture for 3-webs whose 2 foliations are 2 pencils of lines.

Hexagonal geodesic 3-webs

We prove that a surface carries a hexagonal 3-web of geodesics if and only if the geodesic flow on the surface admits a cubic first integral and show that the system of partial differential equations, governing metrics on such surfaces, is integrable by generalized hodograph transform method. We present some new local examples of such metrics, discuss known ones, and establish an analogue of the celebrated Graf and Sauer Theorem for Darboux superintegrable metrics.

Gronwall's conjecture for 3-webs with infinitesimal symmetries

We study non-flat planar 3-webs with infinitesimal symmetries. Using multi-dimensional Schwarzian derivative we give a criterion for linearization of such webs and present a projective classification thereof. Using this classification we show that the Gronwall conjecture is true for 3-webs admitting infinitesimal symmetries.

Frobenius 3-Folds via Singular Flat 3-Webs

We give a geometric interpretation of weighted homogeneous solutions to the associativity equation in terms of the web theory and construct a massive Frobenius 3-fold germ via a singular 3-web germ satisfying the following conditions: 1) the web germ admits at least one infinitesimal symmetry, 2) the Chern connection form is holomorphic, 3) the curvature form vanishes identically.

Flat 3-webs via semi-simple Frobenius 3-folds

We construct flat 3-webs via semi-simple geometric Frobenius manifolds of dimension three and give geometric interpretation of the Chern connection of the web. These webs turned out to be biholomorphic to the characteristic webs on the solutions of the corresponding associativity equation. We show that such webs are hexagonal and admit at least one infinitesimal symmetry at each singular point. Singularities of the web are also discussed.

Discrete Z^a and Painleve equations

A discrete analogue of the holomorphic map z^a is studied. It is given by a Schramm's circle pattern with the combinatorics of the square grid. It is shown that the corresponding immersed circle patterns lead to special separatrix solutions of a discrete Painleve equation. Global properties of these solutions, as well as of the discrete $z^a$ are established.
