Entangling gates for the SU(N) anyons

The model of a topological quantum computer is a promising one due to its natural resistance to noise and other errors. Operations in such a computer are implemented by braiding the trajectories of anyons. While it is easy to understand how to build one-qubit operations, two-qubit operations are more difficult. In arXiv:2412.20931 we suggested an approach to build such operations for a topological quantum computer based on SU(2) Chern-Simons theory with arbitrary level using cabling of knots. In this paper we discuss how this approach should be generalized to the SU(N) case, what the differences are, and which new problems arise.

Entangling gates from cabling of knots

While there is a general consensus about the structure of one qubit operations in topological quantum computer, two qubits are as usual a more difficult and complex story of different attempts with varying approaches, problems and effectiveness. In this paper we discuss how to construct an efficient realization of a two qubit gate in topological quantum computer, by using principle of cabling from the knot theory. This allows to construct a braiding of cables dependent on the parameters of the theory where there is a low probability of moving out of computational space (high fidelity of operation) while there is a non-trivial entangling two-qubit operation. We also present some examples of these operations for different parameters of the theory.

Entangled states from arborescent knots

In this paper we discuss how to use arborescent knots to construct entangled multi-qubit states. We show that Bell-states, GHZ-states and cluster states can be constructed from such knots. The latter are particularly interesting since they form a base for the measurement-based quantum computers.

Calculating HOMFLY-PT polynomials on a photonic processor

In this paper we discuss an approach to calculate knot polynomials on a photonic processor. Calculations of knot polynomials is a computationally difficult problem and therefore it is interesting to use new advanced calculation methods to find them. Here we present a proof of concept by calculating the simplest knot polynomial of the trefoil knot in fundamental representation. This approach, however, can easily be generalized to more complex knots and representations. Same operators can also be realized on a quantum computer with the same effect.

Large $k$ topological quantum computer

Chern-Simons topological quantum computer is a device that can be effectively described by the Chern-Simons topological quantum field theory and used for quantum computations. Quantum qudit gates of this quantum computer are represented by sequences of quantum $\mathcal{R}$-matrices. Its dimension and explicit form depend on the parameters of the Chern-Simons theory -- level $k$, gauge group $SU(N)$, and representation, which is chosen to be symmetric representation $[r]$. In this paper, we examine the universality of such a quantum computer. We prove that for sufficiently large $k$ it is universal, and the minimum allowed value of $k$ depends on the remaining parameters $r$ and $N$.

Spin-orbit coupling suppression and singlet-state blocking of spin-triplet Cooper pairs

An inhomogeneous magnetic exchange field at a superconductor/ferromagnet interface converts spin-singlet Cooper pairs to a spin-aligned (i.e. spin-polarized) triplet state. Although the decay envelope of such triplet pairs within ferromagnetic materials is well studied, little is known about their decay in non-magnetic metals and superconductors, and in particular in the presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC). Here we investigate devices in which triplet supercurrents are injected into the s-wave superconductor Nb. In the normal state of Nb, triplet supercurrents decay over a distance of 5 nm, which is an order of magnitude smaller than the decay of spin singlet pairs due to the SOC interacting with the spin associated with triplet pairs. In the superconducting state of Nb, triplet supercurrents are not able to couple with the singlet wavefunction and thus blocked by the absence of available equilibrium states in the singlet gap. The results offer new insight into the dynamics between s-wave singlet and s-wave triplet states.

Robust architecture for programmable universal unitaries

The decomposition of large unitary matrices into smaller ones is important, because it provides ways to realization of classical and quantum information processing schemes. Today, most of the methods use planar meshes of tunable two-channel blocks, however, the schemes turn out to be sensitive to fabrication errors. We study a novel decomposition method based on multi-channel blocks. We have shown that the scheme is universal even when the block`s transfer matrices are chosen at random, making it virtually insensitive to errors. Moreover, the placement of the variable elements can be arbitrary, so that the scheme is not bound to specific topologies. Our method can be beneficial for large-scale implementations of unitary transformations by techniques, which are not of wide proliferation today or yet to be developed.

Pseudo-conformal Universe: late-time contraction and generation of tensor modes

We consider a bouncing Universe model which explains the flatness of the primordial scalar spectrum via complex scalar field that rolls down its negative quartic potential and dominates in the Universe. We show that in this model, there exists a rapid contraction regime of classical evolution. We calculate the power spectrum of tensor modes in this scenario. We find that it is blue and its amplitude is typically small, leading to mild constraints on the parameters of the model.

Standard Model in adS slice with UV-localized Higgs field

We discuss five-dimensional Standard Model in a slice of adS space-time with the Higgs field residing near or on the UV brane. Allowing fermion fields to propagate in the bulk, we obtain the hierarchy of their masses and quark mixings without introducing large or small Yukawa couplings. However, the interaction of fermions with the Higgs and gauge boson KK excitations gives rise to FCNC with no built-in suppression mechanism. This strongly constrains the scale of KK masses. We also discuss neutrino mass generation via KK excitations of the Higgs field. We find that this mechanism is subdominant in the scenarios of spontaneous symmetry breaking we consider.

Resolving Puzzles of Massive Gravity with and without violation of Lorentz symmetry

We perform a systematic study of various versions of massive gravity with and without violation of Lorentz symmetry in arbitrary dimension. These theories are well known to possess very unusual properties, unfamiliar from studies of gauge and Lorentz invariant models. These peculiarities are caused by mixing of familiar transverse fields with revived longitudinal and pure gauge (Stueckelberg) fields and are all seen already in quadratic approximation. They are all associated with non-trivial dispersion laws, which easily allow superluminal propagation, ghosts, tachyons and essential irrationalities. Moreover, coefficients in front of emerging modes are small, what makes the theories essentially non-perturbative within a large Vainshtein radius. Attempts to get rid of unwanted degrees of freedom by giving them infinite masses lead to DVZ discontinuities in parameter (moduli) space, caused by un-permutability of different limits. Also, the condition m_{gh}=\infty can not be preserved already in non-trivial gravitational backgrounds and is unstable under any other perturbations of linearized gravity. At the same time an {\it a priori} healthy model of massive gravity in quadratic approximation definitely exists: provided by any mass level of Kaluza-Klein tower. It bypasses the problems because gravity field is mixed with other fields, and this explains why such mixing helps in other models. At the same time this can imply that the really healthy massive gravity can still require infinite number of extra fields beyond quadratic approximation.

Linearized Lorentz-Violating Gravity and Discriminant Locus in the Moduli Space of Mass Terms

We analyze the pattern of normal modes in linearized Lorentz-violating massive gravity over the 5-dimensional moduli space of mass terms. Ghost-free theories arise at bifurcation points when the ghosts get out of the spectrum of propagating particles due to vanishing of the coefficient in front of ω^2 in the propagator. Similarly, the van Dam-Veltman-Zakharov (DVZ) discontinuities in the Newton law arise at another type of bifurcations, when the coefficient vanishes in front of \vec k^2. When the Lorentz invariance is broken, these two kinds of bifurcations get independent and one can easily find a ghost-free model without the DVZ discontinuity in the moduli space, at least, in the quadratic (linearized) approximation.
