On Titchmarsh-Weyl functions of first-order symmetric systems with arbitrary deficiency indices

We study general (not necessarily Hamiltonian) first-order symmetric systems $J y'(t)-B(t)y(t)=\D(t) f(t)$ on an interval $[a,b> $ with the regular endpoint $a$. The deficiency indices $n_\pm$ of the corresponding minimal relation $\Tmi$ may be arbitrary (possibly unequal). Our approach is based on the concept of a decomposing boundary triplet, which enables one to parametrize various classes of extensions of $\Tmi$ (self-adjoint, $m$-dissipative, etc.) in terms of boundary conditions imposed on regular and singular values of a function $y\in \dom \tma$ at the endpoints $a$ and $b$ respectively. In particular, we describe self-adjoint and $ł$-depending Nevanlinna boundary conditions which are analogs of separated ones for Hamiltonian systems. With a boundary value problem involving such conditions we associate the $m$-function $m(\cd)$, which is an analog of the Titchmarsh-Weyl coefficient for the Hamiltonian system. In the simplest case of minimal (unequal) deficiency indices $n_\pm$ the $m$-function $m(\cd)$ coincides with the rectangular Titchmarsh-Weyl coefficient introduced by Hinton and Schneider. We parametrize all $m$-functions in terms of the Nevanlinna boundary parameter at the endpoint $b$ by means of the formula similar to the known Krein formula for resolvents. Application of these results to differential operators of an odd order enables us to complete the results by Everitt and Krishna Kumar on the Titchmarsh-Weyl theory of such operators.

On elements of the Lax-Phillips scattering scheme for PT-symmetric operators

Generalized PT-symmetric operators acting an a Hilbert space $\mathfrak{H}$ are defined and investigated. The case of PT-symmetric extensions of a symmetric operator $S$ is investigated in detail. The possible application of the Lax-Phillips scattering methods to the investigation of PT-symmetric operators is illustrated by considering the case of 0-perturbed operators.

Phase transitions and quantum effects in anharmonic crystals

The most important recent results in the theory of phase transitions and quantum effects in quantum anharmonic crystals are presented and discussed. In particular, necessary and sufficient conditions for a phase transition to occur at some temperature are given in the form of simple inequalities involving the interaction strength and the parameters describing a single oscillator. The main characteristic feature of the theory is that both mentioned phenomena are described in one and the same setting, in which thermodynamic phases of the model appear as probability measures on path spaces. Then the possibility of a phase transition to occur is related to the existence of multiple phases at the same values of the relevant parameters. Other definitions of phase transitions, based on the non-differentiability of the free energy density and on the appearance of ordering, are also discussed.

Strong uniqueness for both Dirichlet operators and stochastic dynamics to Gibbs measures on a path space with exponential interactions

We prove $L^{p}$-uniqueness of Dirichlet operators for Gibbs measures on the path space $C(\mathbb R, \mathbb R^{d})$ associated with exponential type interactions in infinite volume by extending an SPDE approach presented in previous work by the last two named authors. We also give an SPDE characterization of the corresponding dynamics. In particular, we prove existence and uniqueness of a strong solution for the SPDE, though the self-interaction potential is not assumed to be differentiable, hence the drift is possibly discontinuous. As examples, to which our results apply, we mention the stochastic quantization of $P(ϕ)_{1}$-, ${\rm exp}(ϕ)_{1}$-, and trigonometric quantum fields in infinite volume. In particular, our results imply essential self-adjointness of the generator of the stochastic dynamics for these models. Finally, as an application of the strong uniqueness result for the SPDE, we prove some functional inequalities for diffusion semigroups generated by the above Dirichlet operators. These inequalities are improvements of previous work by the second named author.

Asymptotic Expansions for the Heat Kernel and the Trace of a Stochastic Geodesic Flow

We analyze the asymptotic behaviour of the heat kernel defined by a stochastically perturbed geodesic flow on the cotangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold for small time and small diffusion parameter. This extends WKB-type methods to a particular case of a degenerate Hamiltonian. We derive uniform bounds for the solution of the degenerate Hamiltonian boundary value problem for small time. From this equivalence of solutions of the Hamiltonian equations and the corresponding Hamilton Jacobi equation follows. The results are exploited to derive two sided estimates and multiplicative asymptotics for the heat kernel and the trace.

Probabilistic model associated with the pressureless gas dynamics

Using a method of stochastic perturbation of a Langevin system associated with the non-viscous Burgers equation we construct a solution to the Riemann problem for the pressureless gas dynamics describing sticky particles. As a bridging step we consider a medium consisting of noninteracting particles. We analyze the difference in the behavior of discontinuous solutions for these two models and the relations between them. In our framework we obtain a unique entropy solution to the Riemann problem in 1D case. Moreover, we describe how starting from smooth data a $δ$ - singularity arises in one component of the solution.

Bounds on the spectrum and reducing subspaces of a J-self-adjoint operator

Given a self-adjoint involution J on a Hilbert space H, we consider a J-self-adjoint operator L=A+V on H where A is a possibly unbounded self-adjoint operator commuting with J and V a bounded J-self-adjoint operator anti-commuting with J. We establish optimal estimates on the position of the spectrum of L with respect to the spectrum of A and we obtain norm bounds on the operator angles between maximal uniformly definite reducing subspaces of the unperturbed operator A and the perturbed operator L. All the bounds are given in terms of the norm of V and the distances between pairs of disjoint spectral sets associated with the operator L and/or the operator A. As an example, the quantum harmonic oscillator under a PT-symmetric perturbation is discussed. The sharp norm bounds obtained for the operator angles generalize the celebrated Davis-Kahan trigonometric theorems to the case of J-self-adjoint perturbations.

Suppression of unbounded gradients in a SDE associated with the Burgers equation

We consider the Langevin equation describing a stochastically perturbed by uniform noise non-viscous Burgers fluid and introduce a deterministic function that corresponds to the mean of the velocity when we keep the value of position fixed. We study interrelations between this function and the solution of the non-perturbed Burgers equation. Especially we are interested in the property of the solution of the latter equation to develop unbounded gradients within a finite time. We study the question how the initial distribution of particles for the Langevin equation influences this blowup phenomenon. It is shown that for a wide class of initial data and initial distributions of particles the unbounded gradients are eliminated. The case of a linear initial velocity is particular. We show that if the initial distribution of particles is uniform, then the mean of the velocity for a given position coincides with the solution of the Burgers equation and in particular does not depend on the constant variance of the stochastic perturbation. Further, for a one space space variable we get the following result: if the decay rate of the power-behaved initial particles distribution at infinity is greater or equal $|x|^{-2},$ then the blowup is suppressed, otherwise, the blowup takes place at the same moment of time as in the case of the non-perturbed Burgers equation.

Bound of Entanglement of Assistance and Monogamy Constraints

We investigate the entanglement of assistance which quantifies capabilities of producing pure bipartite entangled states from a pure tripartite state. The lower bound and upper bound of entanglement of assistance are obtained. In the light of the upper bound, monogamy constraints are proved for arbitrary n-qubit states.

The non-viscous Burgers equation associated with random positions in coordinate space: a threshold for blow up behaviour

It is well known that the solutions to the non-viscous Burgers equation develop a gradient catastrophe at a critical time provided the initial data have a negative derivative in certain points. We consider this equation assuming that the particle paths in the medium are governed by a random process with a variance which depends in a polynomial way on the velocity. Given an initial distribution of the particles which is uniform in space and with the initial velocity linearly depending on the position we show both analytically and numerically that there exists a threshold effect: if the power in the above variance is less than 1, then the noise does not influence the solution behavior, in the following sense: the mean of the velocity when we keep the value of position fixed goes to infinity outside the origin. If however the power is larger or equal 1, then this mean decays to zero as the time tends to a critical value.

Jump processes on leaves of multibranching trees

The p-adic numbers have found applications in a wide range of diverse fields of research. In some applications the algebraic properties of p-adics enter as an indispensable ingredient of the theory. Another class of applications has to do with hierarchical tree like systems. In this context the applications are based on the well known correspondence between p-adics and the trees with p-branches emerging from every branching point. Then the algebraic structure does not enter and p-adics are used merely as a labeling system for the tree branches. We introduce a space of numerical sequences suitable for labeling the trees with varying number of branches emerging from the branching points. We equipe this space with a non Archimedian metric and describe its basic topological properties. We also demonstrate that the known construction of the stochastic processes on p-adics carry over to the stochastic processes on the above mentioned space and hence on the corresponding trees.

q-Pascal's triangle and irreducible representations of the braid group B_3 in arbitrary dimension

We construct a [(n+1)/2]+1 parameters family of irreducible representations of the Braid group B_3 in arbitrary dimension n\in N, using a q-deformation of the Pascal triangle. This construction extends in particular results by S.P.Humphries [8], who constructed representations of the braid group B_3 in arbitrary dimension using the classical Pascal triangle. E.Ferrand [7] obtained an equivalent representation of B_3 by considering two special operators in the space C^n[X]. Slightly more general representations were given by I.Tuba and H.Wenzl [11]. They involve [(n+1)/2] parameters (and also use the classical Pascal triangle). The latter authors also gave the complete classification of all simple representations of B_3 for dimension n\leq 5. Our construction generalize all mentioned results and throws a new light on some of them. We also study the irreducibility and the equivalence of the representations. In [17] we establish the connection between the constructed representation of the braid group B_3 and the highest weight modules of U(sl_2) and quantum group U_q(sl_2).

Local Equivalence of Rank-Two Quantum Mixed States

We investigate the equivalence of quantum mixed states under local unitary transformations. For a class of rank-two mixed states, a sufficient and necessary condition of local equivalence is obtained by giving a complete set of invariants under local unitary transformations, such that two states in this class are locally equivalent if and only if all these invariants have equal values for them.

$\widetilde{Q}$-representation of real numbers and fractal probability distributions

A $\widetilde{Q}-$representation of real numbers is introduced as a generalization of the $p-$adic and $Q-$representations. It is shown that the $\widetilde{Q}-$representation may be used as a convenient tool for the construction and study of fractals and sets with complicated local structure. Distributions of random variables $ξ$ with independent $\widetilde{Q}-$symbols are studied in details. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the probability measures $μ_ξ$ associated with $ξ$ to be either absolutely continuous or singular (resp. pure continuous, or pure point) are found in terms of the $\widetilde{Q}-$representation. In addition the metric-topological properties for the distribution of $ξ$ are investigated. A number of examples are presented.

Multiresolution wavelet analysis of integer scale Bessel functions

We identify multiresolution subspaces giving rise via Hankel transforms to Bessel functions. They emerge as orthogonal systems derived from geometric Hilbert-space considerations, the same way the wavelet functions from a multiresolution scaling wavelet construction arise from a scale of Hilbert spaces. We study the theory of representations of the $C^{\ast}$-algebra $% O_{ν+1}$ arising from this multiresolution analysis. A connection with Markov chains and representations of $O_{ν+1}$ is found. Projection valued measures arising from the multiresolution analysis give rise to a Markov trace for quantum groups $SO_q$.

Discrete spectrum asymptotics for the three-particle Hamiltonians on lattices

We consider the Hamiltonian of a system of three quantum mechanical particles on the three-dimensional lattice $\Z^3$ interacting via short-range pair potentials. We prove for the two-particle energy operator $h(k),$ $k\in \T^3$ the two-particle quasi-momentum, the existence of a unique positive eigenvalue $z(k)$ lying below the essential spectrum under assumption that the operator $h(0)$ corresponding to the zero value of $k$ has a zero energy resonance. We describe the location of the essential spectrum of the three-particle discrete Schrödinger operators $H(K)$,$K$ the three-particle quasi-momentum by the spectra of $h(k), k\in \T^3.$ We prove the existence of infinitely many eigenvalues of H(0) and establish for the number of eigenvalues $N(0,z)$ lying below $z<0$ the asymptotics \begin{equation*}\label{asimz} \lim\limits_{z \to -0}\frac{N(0,z)}{|\log |z||}=\frac{λ_0}{2π}, \end{equation*} where $λ_0$ a unique positive solution of the equation $$ λ= \frac{8 \sinh πλ/6}{\sqrt 3 \cosh πλ/2}.$$ We prove that for all $ K \in U_δ^0(0),$ where $U_δ^0(0)$ some punctured $δ>0$ neighborhood of the origin, the number $N(K,0)$ of eigenvalues the operator $H(K)$ below zero is finite and satisfy the asymptotics \begin{equation*}\label{asimk} \lim\limits_{|K| \to 0}\frac{N(K,0)}{|\log |K||}=\frac{λ_0}π. \end{equation*}

Asymptotics for the number of eigenvalues of three-particle Schrödinger operators on lattices

We consider the Hamiltonian of a system of three quantum mechanical particles (two identical fermions and boson)on the three-dimensional lattice $\Z^3$ and interacting by means of zero-range attractive potentials. We describe the location and structure of the essential spectrum of the three-particle discrete Schrödinger operator $H_γ(K),$ $K$ being the total quasi-momentum and $γ>0$ the ratio of the mass of fermion and boson. We choose for $γ>0$ the interaction $v(γ)$ in such a way the system consisting of one fermion and one boson has a zero energy resonance. We prove for any $γ> 0$ the existence infinitely many eigenvalues of the operator $H_γ(0).$ We establish for the number $N(0,γ; z;)$ of eigenvalues lying below $z<0$ the following asymptotics $$ \lim_{z\to 0-}\frac{N(0,γ;z)}{\mid \log \mid z\mid \mid}={U} (γ) .$$ Moreover, for all nonzero values of the quasi-momentum $K \in T^3 $ we establish the finiteness of the number $ N(K,γ;τ_{ess}(K))$ of eigenvalues of $H(K)$ below the bottom of the essential spectrum and we give an asymptotics for the number $N(K,γ;0)$ of eigenvalues below zero.
