Multigraphs and Time Ordered Isserlis-Wick formulae

Given a m-dimensional Gaussian process and polynomial m variables with real coefficients, we calculate the induced path odered exponenial in two different ways: one is purely algebraic in spirit and the other one is diagrammatic in spirit and uses multigraph labelings (and is inspired by the use of Feynman diagrams in quantum field theory).

On Generalized Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi Metric. Fractal Matter at the end of Matter-Antimatter Recombination

Many recent researches have investigated the deviations from the Friedmannian cosmological model, as well as their consequences on unexplained cosmological phenomena, such as dark matter and the acceleration of the Universe. On the one hand, a first order perturbative study of matter inhomogeneity returned a partial explanation of dark matter and dark energy, as relativistic effects due to the retarded potentials of far objects. On the other hand, the fractal cosmology, now modeled with a Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) metric, results in distortions of the luminosity distances of SNe Ia, explaining the acceleration as apparent. In this work we extend the LTB metric to ancient times. The origin of the fractal distribution of matter is explained as the matter remnant after the matter-antimatter recombination epoch. We show that the evolution of such a inhomogeneity necessarily requires a dynamical generalization of LTB, and we propose a particular solution.

Odd characteristic classes in entire cyclic homology and equivariant loop space homology

Given a compact manifold $M$ and $g\in C^{\infty}(M,U(l;\mathbb{C}))$ we construct a Chern character $\mathrm{Ch}^-(g)$ which lives in the odd part of the equivariant (entire) cyclic Chen-normalized bar complex $\underline{\mathscr{C}}(Ω_{\mathbb{T}}(M\times \mathbb{T}))$ of $M$, and which is mapped to the odd Bismut-Chern character under the equivariant Chen integral map. It is also shown that the assignment $g\mapsto \mathrm{Ch}^-(g)$ induces a well-defined group homomorphism from the $K^{-1}$ theory of $M$ to the odd homology group of $\underline{\mathscr{C}}(Ω_{\mathbb{T}}(M\times \mathbb{T}))$

Uniqueness of Segal quantization for oscillating systems

We show that the Segal quantization of an arbitrary system of decoupled harmonic oscillators is unique in the sense that the one particle Hilbert space is completely determined by the requests of being a naturally complex symplectic space carrying a unitary realization of the dynamical evolution of the considered system.

Hyperbolic Geometry and Amplituhedra in 1+2 dimensions

Recently, the existence of an Amplituhedron for tree level amplitudes in the bi-adjoint scalar field theory has been proved by Arkhani-Hamed et al. We argue that hyperbolic geometry constitutes a natural framework to address the study of positive geometries in moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces, and thus to try to extend this achievement beyond tree level. In this paper we begin an exploration of these ideas starting from the simplest example of hyperbolic geometry, the hyperbolic plane. The hyperboloid model naturally guides us to re-discover the moduli space Associahedron, and a new version of its kinematical avatar. As a by-product we obtain a solution to the scattering equations which can be interpreted as a special case of the two well known solutions in terms of spinor-helicity formalism. The construction is done in $1+2$ dimensions and this makes harder to understand how to extract the amplitude from the dlog of the space time Associahedron. Nevertheless, we continue the investigation accommodating a loop momentum in the picture. By doing this we are led to another polytope called Halohedron, which was already known to mathematicians. We argue that the Halohedron fulfils many criteria that make it plausible to be understood as a 1-loop Amplituhedron for the cubic theory. Furthermore, the hyperboloid model again allows to understand that a kinematical version of the Halohedron exists and is related to the one living in moduli space by a simple generalisation of the tree level map.

Dark matter effects in vacuum spacetime

We analyze a toy model describing an empty spacetime in which the motion of a test mass (and the trajectories of photons) evidence the presence of a continuous and homogeneous distribution of matter; however, since the energy-momentum tensor vanishes, no real matter or energy distribution is present at all. Thus, a hypothetical observer will conclude that he is immersed in some sort of dark matter, even though he has no chance to directly detect it. This suggests yet another possibility of explaining the elusive dark matter as a purely dynamical effect due to the curvature of spacetime.

Renormalized Thermal Entropy in Field Theory

Standard entropy calculations in quantum field theory, when applied to a subsystem of definite volume, exhibit area-dependent UV divergences that make a thermodynamic interpretation troublesome. In this paper we define a renormalized entropy which is related with the Newton-Wigner position operator. Accordingly, whenever we trace over a region of space, we trace away degrees of freedom that are localized according to Newton-Wigner localization but not in the usual sense. We consider a free scalar field in d+1 spacetime dimensions prepared in a thermal state and we show that our entropy is free of divergences and has a perfectly sound thermodynamic behavior. In the high temperature/big volume limit our results agree with the standard QFT calculations once the divergent contributions are subtracted from the latter. In the limit of low temperature/small volume the entropy goes to zero but with a different dependence on the temperature.

Two loop superstring amplitudes and S_6 representations

In this paper we describe how representation theory of groups can be used to shorten the derivation of two loop partition functions in string theory, giving an intrinsic description of modular forms appearing in the results of D'Hoker and Phong [1]. Our method has the advantage of using only algebraic properties of modular functions and it can be extended to any genus g.

AdS_2 Supergravity and Superconformal Quantum Mechanics

We investigate the asymptotic dynamics of topological anti-de Sitter supergravity in two dimensions. Starting from the formulation as a BF theory, it is shown that the AdS_2 boundary conditions imply that the asymptotic symmetries form a super-Virasoro algebra. Using the central charge of this algebra in Cardy's formula, we exactly reproduce the thermodynamical entropy of AdS_2 black holes. Furthermore, we show that the dynamics of the dilaton and its superpartner reduces to that of superconformal transformations that leave invariant one chiral component of the stress tensor supercurrent of a two-dimensional conformal field theory. This dynamics is governed by a supersymmetric extension of the de Alfaro-Fubini-Furlan model of conformal quantum mechanics. Finally, two-dimensional de Sitter gravity is also considered, and the dS_2 entropy is computed by counting CFT states.

The Asymptotic Dynamics of two-dimensional (anti-)de Sitter Gravity

We show that the asymptotic dynamics of two-dimensional de Sitter or anti-de Sitter Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity is described by a generalized two-particle Calogero-Sutherland model. This correspondence is established by formulating the JT model of (A)dS gravity in two dimensions as a topological gauge theory, which reduces to a nonlinear 0+1-dimensional sigma model on the boundary of (A)dS space. The appearance of cyclic coordinates allows then a further reduction to the Calogero-Sutherland quantum mechanical model.

The Asymptotic Dynamics of de Sitter Gravity in three Dimensions

We show that the asymptotic dynamics of three-dimensional gravity with positive cosmological constant is described by Euclidean Liouville theory. This provides an explicit example of a correspondence between de Sitter gravity and conformal field theories. In the case at hand, this correspondence is established by formulating Einstein gravity with positive cosmological constant in three dimensions as an SL(2,C) Chern-Simons theory. The de Sitter boundary conditions on the connection are divided into two parts. The first part reduces the CS action to a nonchiral SL(2,C) WZNW model, whereas the second provides the constraints for a further reduction to Liouville theory, which lives on the past boundary of dS_3.

w_{\infty} Algebras, Conformal Mechanics, and Black Holes

We discuss BPS solitons in gauged ${\cal N}=2$, D=4 supergravity. The solitons represent extremal black holes interpolating between different vacua of anti-de Sitter spaces. The isometry superalgebras are determined and the motion of a superparticle in the extremal black hole background is studied and confronted with superconformal mechanics. We show that the Virasoro symmetry of conformal mechanics, which describes the dynamics of the superparticle near the horizon of the extremal black hole under consideration, extends to a symmetry under the $w_{\infty}$ algebra of area-preserving diffeomorphisms. We find that a Virasoro subalgebra of $w_{\infty}$ can be associated to the Virasoro algebra of the asymptotic symmetries of $AdS_2$. In this way spacetime diffeomorphisms of $AdS_2$ translate into diffeomorphisms in phase space: our system offers an explicit realization of the $AdS_2/CFT_1$ correspondence. Using the dimensionally reduced action, the central charge is computed. Finally, we also present generalizations of superconformal mechanics which are invariant under ${\cal N} =1$ and ${\cal N} =2$ superextensions of $w_{\infty}$.

The 0-brane action in a general D=4 supergravity background

We begin by presenting the superparticle action in the background of N=2, D=4 supergravity coupled to n vector multiplets interacting via an arbitrary special Kahler geometry. Our construction is based on implementing kappa-supersymmetry. In particular, our result can be interpreted as the source term for N=2 BPS black holes with a finite horizon area. When the vector multiplets can be associated to the complex structure moduli of a Calabi-Yau manifold, then our 0-brane action can be derived by wrapping 3-branes around 3-cycles of the 3-fold. Our result can be extended to the case of higher supersymmetry; we explicitly construct the kappa supersymmetric action for a superparticle moving in an arbitrary N=8 supergravity background with 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 residual supersymmetry.

Gravitational corrections to N=2 supersymmetric lagrangians

In the framework of special Kahler geometry we consider the supergravity-matter system which emerges on a K3-fibered Calabi-Yau manifold. By applying the rigid limit procedure in the vicinity of a conifold singularity we compute the Kahler potential of the scalars and the kinetic matrix of the vectors to first order in the gravitational coupling.
