Genus four superstring measures

A main issue in superstring theory are the superstring measures. D'Hoker and Phong showed that for genus two these reduce to measures on the moduli space of curves which are determined by modular forms of weight eight and the bosonic measure. They also suggested a generalisation to higher genus. We showed that their approach works, with a minor modification, in genus three and we announced a positive result also in genus four. Here we give the modular form in genus four explicitly. Recently S. Grushevsky published this result as part of a more general approach.

Modular Forms and Three Loop Superstring Amplitudes

We study a proposal of D'Hoker and Phong for the chiral superstring measure for genus three. A minor modification of the constraints they impose on certain Siegel modular forms leads to a unique solution. We reduce the problem of finding these modular forms, which depend on an even spin structure, to finding a modular form of weight 8 on a certain subgroup of the modular group. An explicit formula for this form, as a polynomial in the even theta constants, is given. We checked that our result is consistent with the vanishing of the cosmological constant. We also verified a conjecture of D'Hoker and Phong on modular forms in genus 3 and 4 using results of Igusa.

All timelike supersymmetric solutions of N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity coupled to abelian vector multiplets

The timelike supersymmetric solutions of N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of abelian vector multiplets are classified using spinorial geometry techniques. We show that the generalized holonomy group for vacua preserving N supersymmetries is GL((8-N)/2,C) $\ltimes$ N/2 C^((8-N)/2) $\subseteq$ GL(8,R), where N=0,2,4,6,8. The spacetime turns out to be a fibration over a three-dimensional base manifold with U(1) holonomy and nontrivial torsion. Our results can be used to construct new supersymmetric AdS black holes with nontrivial scalar fields turned on.

Mapping the geometry of the F4 group

In this paper we present a construction of the compact form of the exceptional Lie group F4 by exponentiating the corresponding Lie algebra f4. We realize F4 as the automorphisms group of the exceptional Jordan algebra, whose elements are 3 x 3 hermitian matrices with octonionic entries. We use a parametrization which generalizes the Euler angles for SU(2) and is based on the fibration of F4 via a Spin(9) subgroup as a fiber. This technique allows us to determine an explicit expression for the Haar invariant measure on the F4 group manifold. Apart from shedding light on the structure of F4 and its coset manifold OP2=F4/Spin(9), the octonionic projective plane, these results are a prerequisite for the study of E6, of which F4 is a (maximal) subgroup.

Mapping the geometry of the E6 group

In this paper we present a construction for the compact form of the exceptional Lie group E6 by exponentiating the corresponding Lie algebra e6, which we realize as the the sum of f4, the derivations of the exceptional Jordan algebra J3 of dimension 3 with octonionic entries, and the right multiplication by the elements of J3 with vanishing trace. Our parametrization is a generalization of the Euler angles for SU(2) and it is based on the fibration of E6 via a F4 subgroup as the fiber. It makes use of a similar construction we have performed in a previous article for F4. An interesting first application of these results lies in the fact that we are able to determine an explicit expression for the Haar invariant measure on the E6 group manifold.

Chern-Simons formulation of three-dimensional gravity with torsion and nonmetricity

We consider various models of three-dimensional gravity with torsion or nonmetricity (metric affine gravity), and show that they can be written as Chern-Simons theories with suitable gauge groups. Using the groups ISO(2,1), SL(2,C) or SL(2,R) x SL(2,R), and the fact that they admit two independent coupling constants, we obtain the Mielke-Baekler model for zero, positive or negative effective cosmological constant respectively. Choosing SO(3,2) as gauge group, one gets a generalization of conformal gravity that has zero torsion and only the trace part of the nonmetricity. This characterizes a Weyl structure. Finally, we present a new topological model of metric affine gravity in three dimensions arising from an SL(4,R) Chern-Simons theory.

Euler angles for G2

We provide a simple parametrization for the group G2, which is analogous to the Euler parametrization for SU(2). We show how to obtain the general element of the group in a form emphasizing the structure of the fibration of G2 with fiber SO(4) and base H, the variety of quaternionic subalgebras of octonions. In particular this allows us to obtain a simple expression for the Haar measure on G2. Moreover, as a by-product it yields a concrete realization and an Einstein metric for H.

A simple parametrization for G2

We give a simple parametrization of the $G_2$ group, which is consistent with the structure of $G_2$ as a SU(3) fibration. We also explicitly compute the (bi)invariant measure, which turns out to have a simple expression.

More on BPS solutions of N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity

We deepen and refine the classification of supersymmetric solutions to N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity obtained in a previous paper. In the case where the Killing vector constructed from the Killing spinor is timelike, it is shown that the nonlinear partial differential equations determining the BPS solutions can be derived from a variational principle. The corresponding action enjoys a solution-generating PSL(2,R) symmetry. In certain subcases the system reduces to different known theories, like two-dimensional dilaton gravity or the dimensionally reduced gravitational Chern-Simons theory. We find new supersymmetric solutions including, among others, kinks that interpolate between two AdS_4 vacua, electrovac waves on anti-Nariai spacetimes, or generalized Robinson-Trautman solutions. In the case where the Killing vector is null, we obtain a complete classification. The one quarter and one half supersymmetric solutions are determined explicitely, and it is shown that the fraction of three quarters of supersymmetry cannot be preserved. Finally, the general lightlike configuration is uplifted to eleven-dimensional supergravity.

Supersymmetric Domain Walls and Strings in D=5 gauged Supergravity coupled to Vector Multiplets

We present new supersymmetric domain wall and string solutions of five-dimensional N = 2 gauged supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of vector multiplets. Using the techniques of very special geometry allows to obtain the most general domain wall preserving half of the supersymmetries. This solution, which describes a renormalization group flow in the dual field theory, is given in terms of Weierstrass elliptic functions. The magnetically charged, one quarter supersymmetric string solutions are shown to be closely related to Liouville theory. We furthermore investigate general product space compactifications, and show that topological transitions from AdS_3 x S^2 to AdS_3 x H^2 can occur when one moves in moduli space.

BPS equations in N=2, D=5 supergravity with hypermultiplets

With the general aim to classify BPS solutions in N=2, D=5 supergravities interacting with an arbitrary number of vector, tensor and hypermultiplets, here we begin considering the most general electrostatic, spherical-symmetric BPS solutions in the presence of hypermultiplet couplings. We discuss the properties of the BPS equations and the restrictions imposed by their integrability conditions. We exhibit explicit solutions for the case of static BPS black-holes coupled to one (the so called universal) hypermultiplet.
