Nonlocal theory of elasticity in the natural vibrations of curved CNTs with defects

The current study presents the natural vibrations of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) using the nonlocal theory of elasticity. The study will help to develop nanodevices. The study focuses on the natural vibrations of curved or arch-like carbon nanotubes (CNTs). It is considered that the CNT has a crack-like defect and is simply supported (SS) at both ends. To model the equations of motion for the CNTs, a curved nanobeam approach is adopted, and the governing equations are solved using the separation of variables method. This research investigates the natural frequencies of three types of CNTs: armchair, zigzag, and chiral. A qualitative validation study demonstrates that the obtained results align with those published in the literature. Notably, the study reveals that small-scale effects and defects in the nanotubes influence the natural frequencies of CNTs.

Natural vibrations of circular nano-arches of piecewise constant thickness

The free vibrations of elastic circular arches made of a nano-material are considered. A method of determination of eigenfrequencies of nano-arches weakened with stable cracks is developed making use of the concept of the massless spring and Eringen's nonlocal theory of elasticity. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the sensitivity of eigenfrequencies on the geometrical and physical parameters of the nano-arch.

Natural vibrations of clamped curved nano-beams and nano-arches

Numerical solution of the clamped-clamped (C-C) nanoarches based on the non-local theory of elasticity is analysed. The present study is helpful to understand the mechanical behaviour of the nanostructures. The nanoarch under consideration has constant thickness and dimension of the cross-section and is weakened by crack-like defects. It is assumed that the crack is stationary and the mechanical behaviour of the nanoarch can be modelled by the Eringens non-local theory of elasticity. The influence of cracks on the natural vibration is prescribed with the aid of additional local compliance at the weakened cross-section. An algorithm to determine the eigen frequencies of nanoarches is developed. Present study reveals that there are significant effects of crack length non-local paremeters and radius of the arch on eigen frequency of the nanoarches. The final results are obtained numerically with the help of computer and presented graphically. The results are also compared with those presented by other researchers in the form of a table.

Natural vibrations of curved nano-beams and nano-arches

The natural vibrations of curved nano-beams and nano-arches are studied. The nano-arches under consideration have piece-wise constant thickness; these are weakened with stable cracks located at-entrant corners of the steps. A method of determination of natural frequencies is developed making use of the method of weightless rotating spring. The aim of the paper is to assess the sensitivity of the eigenfrequencies on the geometrical and physical parameters of the nano-arch. The results of the calculations favourably compare with similar works of other researchers.
