Leptogenesis in SO(10) with Minimal Yukawa sector

In prior studies, a very minimal Yukawa sector within the $SO(10)$ Grand Unified Theory framework has been identified, comprising of Higgs fields belonging to a real $10_H$, a real $120_H$, and a $\overline{126}_H$ dimensional representations. In this work, within this minimal framework, we have obtained fits to fermion masses and mixings while successfully reproducing the cosmological baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis. The right-handed neutrino ($N_i$) mass spectrum obtained from the fit is strongly hierarchical, suggesting that $B-L$ asymmetry is dominantly produced from $N_2$ dynamics while $N_1$ is responsible for erasing the excess asymmetry. With this rather constrained Yukawa sector, fits are obtained both for normal and inverted ordered neutrino mass spectra, consistent with leptonic CP-violating phase $δ_\mathrm{CP}$ indicated by global fits of neutrino oscillation data, while also satisfying the current limits from neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. In particular, the the leptonic CP-violating phase has a preference to be in the range $δ_\mathrm{CP}\simeq (230-300)^\circ$. We also show the consistency of the framework with gauge coupling unification and proton lifetime limits.

Unified Origin of Inflation, Baryon Asymmetry, and Neutrino Mass

In this work, we present a unified theoretical framework that simultaneously addresses some of the most intriguing puzzles in particle physics and cosmology, namely the origins of neutrino mass, baryon asymmetry, and cosmic inflation. In our model, inflation is driven by a combination of the Standard Model Higgs, the type II seesaw Higgs responsible for neutrino mass generation, and the unified symmetry-breaking Higgs field. During inflation, non-zero values of the latter field ensure the absence of the monopole problem. The baryon asymmetry is generated through the Affleck-Dine mechanism, facilitated by the non-zero angular motion in the phase of a complex scalar field, which is part of the inflaton. We find that the successful parameter region for generating baryon asymmetry through a renormalizable term in the scalar potential requires a rather heavy type II seesaw triplet, with a mass well beyond the TeV scale. Inflationary observables, in particular, the spectral index is in excellent agree with experimental observation, whereas tensor-to scalar ratio is expected to be probed by the future LiteBIRD and CMB-S4 missions.

Leptoquark-Mediated Two-Loop Neutrino Mass in Unified Theory

Scalar leptoquarks naturally arise within unified theories, offering a promising avenue for addressing one of the most significant challenges of the Standard Model--the existence of non-zero neutrino masses. In this work, we present a unified theory based on the SU(5) gauge group, where neutrino mass appears at the two-loop level via the propagation of scalar leptoquarks. Due to the unified framework, the charged fermion and neutrino masses and mixings are entangled and determined by a common set of Yukawa couplings. These exotic particles not only shed light on the neutrino mass generation mechanism but also help to achieve the unification of gauge couplings and are expected to lead to substantial lepton flavor violating rates, offering tangible opportunities for experimental verification. Reproducing the observed neutrino mass scale necessitates that a set of leptoquarks reside a few orders of magnitude below the unification scale--a specific feature of the proposed scenario. Moreover, maximizing the unification scale implies TeV scale new physics states, making them accessible at colliders. The diverse roles that leptoquarks play highlight the elegance and predictive ability of the proposed unified model.

Probing SUSY at Gravitational Wave Observatories

Under the assumption that the recent pulsar timing array evidence for a stochastic gravitational wave (GW) background at nanohertz frequencies is generated by metastable cosmic strings, we analyze the potential of present and future GW observatories for probing the change of particle degrees of freedom caused, e.g., by a supersymmetric (SUSY) extension of the Standard Model (SM). We find that signs of the characteristic doubling of degrees of freedom predicted by SUSY could be detected at Einstein Telescope and Cosmic Explorer even if the masses of the SUSY partner particles are as high as about $10^4$ TeV, far above the reach of any currently envisioned particle collider. We also discuss the detection prospects for the case that some entropy production, e.g. from a late decaying modulus field inducing a temporary matter domination phase in the evolution of the universe, somewhat dilutes the GW spectrum, delaying discovery of the stochastic GW background at LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA. In our analysis we focus on SUSY, but any theory beyond the SM predicting a significant increase of particle degrees of freedom could be probed this way.

Gauge and Scalar Boson Mediated Proton Decay in a Predictive SU(5) GUT Model

We assess proton decay signatures in the simplest viable $SU(5)$ model with regard to constraints on parameters governing the Standard Model fermion mass spectrum. Experimental signals for all eight two-body proton decay processes result from exchange of two gauge bosons, a single scalar leptoquark, or their combination. Consequently, it enables us to delve into an in-depth anatomy of proton decay modes and anticipate future signatures. Our findings dictate that observing a proton decay into $p\toπ^0e^+$ indicates gauge boson mediation, with the potential for observation of $p\toη^0e^+$ mode. Alternatively, if decay is through $p\to K^+\overlineν$ process, it is mediated by a scalar leptoquark, possibly allowing the observation of $p\toπ^0μ^+$. Detection of both $p\toπ^0 e^+$ and $p\to K^+\overlineν$ could enhance $p\toπ^0μ^+$ through constructive interference. The model predicts inaccessibility of $p\toπ^+\overlineν$, $p\toη^0μ^+$, $p\to K^0e^+$, and $p\to K^0μ^+$, regardless of the dominant mediation type, in the coming decades. In summary, through a comprehensive analysis of proton decay signals, gauge coupling unification, and fermion masses and mixing, we precisely constrain the parameter space of the $SU(5)$ model in question.

Probing Zee-Babu states at Muon Colliders

The Zee-Babu model is a minimal realization of radiative neutrino mass generation mechanism at the two-loop level. We study the phenomenology of this model at future multi-TeV muon colliders. After imposing all theoretical and low-energy experimental constraints on the model parameters, we find that the Zee-Babu states are expected not to reside below the TeV scale, making it challenging to probe them at the LHC. We first analyze the production rates for various channels, including multi singly-charged and/or doubly-charged scalars at muon colliders. For concreteness, we study several benchmark points that satisfy neutrino oscillation data and other constraints and find that most channels have large production rates. We then analyze the discovery reach of the model using two specific channels: the pair production of singly- and doubly-charged scalars. For the phenomenologically viable scenarios considered in this study, charged scalars with masses up to ${\cal O}(3$--$4)$ TeV can be probed for the center-of-mass energy of $10$ TeV and total luminosity of $10~{\rm ab}^{-1}$.

Fermion mass, Axion dark matter, and Leptogenesis in SO(10) GUT

SO(10) grand unified theory with minimum parameters in the Yukawa sector employs the Peccei-Quinn symmetry that solves the strong CP problem. Such an economical Yukawa sector is highly appealing and has been extensively studied in the literature. However, when the running of the renormalization group equations of the Yukawa couplings are considered, this scenario shows somewhat tension with the observed fermion masses and mixing. In this work, we propose an extension of the minimal framework that alleviates this tension by introducing only a few new parameters. The proposed model consists of a fermion in the fundamental and a scalar in the spinorial representations. While the latter is needed to implement the Peccei-Quinn symmetry successfully, the presence of both is essential in obtaining an excellent fit to the fermion mass spectrum. In our model, axions serve the role of dark matter, and the out-of-equilibrium decays of the right-handed neutrinos successfully generate the matter-antimatter symmetry of the Universe.

Primordial non-Gaussianity as a probe of seesaw and leptogenesis

We present the possibility that the seesaw mechanism and nonthermal leptogenesis can be {investigated} via primordial non-Gaussianities in the context of a majoron curvaton model. Originating as a massless Nambu-Goldstone boson from the spontaneous breaking of the global baryon ($B$) minus lepton ($L$) number symmetry at a scale $v_{B-L}$, majoron becomes massive when it couples to a new confining sector through anomaly. Acting as a curvaton, majoron produces the observed red-tilted curvature power spectrum without relying on any inflaton contribution, and its decay in the post-inflationary era gives rise to a nonthermal population of right-handed neutrinos that participate in leptogenesis. A distinctive feature of the mechanism is the generation of observable non-Gaussianity, {in the parameter space where the red-tilted power spectrum and sufficient baryon asymmetry are produced.} We {find} that the non-Gaussianity parameter $f_{\rm NL} \gtrsim \mathcal{O} (0.1)$ is produced for high-scale seesaw ($v_{B-L}$ at $\mathcal{O}(10^{14-17})$ GeV) and leptogenesis ($M_1 \gtrsim \mathcal{O}(10^6)$ GeV) where the latter represents the lightest right-handed neutrino mass. While the current bounds on local non-Gaussianity excludes some part of parameter space, the rest can be fully probed by future experiments like CMB-S4, LSST, and 21 cm tomography.

Minimal $SU(5)$ GUTs with vectorlike fermions

In this work, we attempt to answer the question, "What is the minimal viable renormalizable $SU(5)$ GUT with representations no higher than adjoints?". We find that an $SU(5)$ model with a pair of vectorlike fermions $5_F+\overline{5}_F$, as well as two copies of $15_H$ Higgs fields, is the minimal candidate that accommodates for correct charged fermion and neutrino masses and can also address the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. Our results show that the presented model is highly predictive and will be fully tested by a combination of upcoming proton decay experiments, collider searches, and low-energy experiments in search of flavor violations. Moreover, we also entertain the possibility of adding a pair of vectorlike fermions $10_F+\overline{10}_F$ or $15_F+\overline{15}_F$ (instead of a $5_F+\overline{5}_F$). Our study reveals that the entire parameter space of these two models, even with minimal particle content, cannot be fully probed due to possible longer proton lifetime beyond the reach of Hyper-Kamiokande.

Gravitational waves from metastable cosmic strings in Pati-Salam model in light of new pulsar timing array data

A series of pulsar timing arrays (PTAs) recently observed gravitational waves at the nanohertz frequencies. Motivated by this remarkable result, we present a novel class of Pati-Salam models that give rise to a network of metastable cosmic strings, offering a plausible explanation for the observed PTA data. Besides, we introduce a hybrid inflationary scenario to eliminate magnetic monopoles that arise during the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the Pati-Salam gauge group to the Standard Model. The resulting scalar spectral index is compatible with Planck data, and the tensor-to-scalar ratio is anticipated to be extremely small. Moreover, we incorporate a non-thermal leptogenesis to generate the required baryon asymmetry in our framework. Finally, the gravitational wave spectra generated by the metastable cosmic strings not only correspond to signals observed in recent PTAs, including NANOGrav, but are also within the exploration capacity of both present and future ground-based and space-based experiments.

A Generalised Missing Partner Mechanism for SU(5) GUT Inflation

We generalise the Missing Partner Mechanism to split the electron-like states from the coloured ones of vectorlike SU(5) 10-plets without fine-tuning. Together with the extra light weak doublets from the Double Missing Partner Mechanism (DMPM), this realises gauge coupling unification in the presence of a light weak triplet and colour octet, the characteristic light relics from the adjoint in SU(5) GUT Inflation models. Additionally, we show how the vectorlike 10-plets may generate realistic fermion masses while the DMPM ensures that dimension five nucleon decay is suppressed. A discovery of the light relic states at future colliders would provide a "smoking gun" signal of the scenario.

Singling out SO(10) GUT models using recent PTA results

In this work, we construct promising model building routes towards SO(10) GUT inflation and examine their ability to explain the recent PTA results hinting at a stochastic gravitational wave (GW) background at nanohertz frequencies. We consider a supersymmetric framework within which the so-called doublet-triplet splitting problem is solved without introducing fine-tuning. Additionally, realistic fermion masses and mixings, gauge coupling unification, and cosmic inflation are incorporated by utilizing superfields with representations no higher than the adjoint representation. Among the three possible scenarios, two of these cases require a single adjoint Higgs field, and do not lead to cosmic strings. In contrast, the third scenario featuring two adjoints, can lead to a network of metastable cosmic strings that generates a GW background contribution compatible with the recent PTA findings and testable by various ongoing and upcoming GW observatories.

Quantum simulation of quantum mechanical system with spatial noncommutativity

Quantum simulation has become a promising avenue of research that allows one to simulate and gain insight into the models of High Energy Physics whose experimental realizations are either complicated or inaccessible with current technology. We demonstrate the quantum simulation of such a model, a quantum mechanical system with spatial noncommutativity, which is inspired by the works in Noncommutative Geometry and Noncommutative Field theory for a universal quantum computer. We use the novel group theoretical formalism to map the Hamiltonian of such a noncommutative quantum system into the ordinary quantum mechanical Hamiltonian and then carry out the quantum simulation using the Trotter-Suzuki product formula. Furthermore, we distinguish the impact of the noncommutativity parameter on the quantum simulation, especially on the Trotter error, and point out how its sizable value affects the simulation.

Light Neutrinophilic Dark Matter from a Scotogenic Model

We present a minimal sub-GeV thermal Dark Matter (DM) model where the DM primarily interacts with neutrinos and participates in neutrino mass generation through quantum loop corrections at one-loop level. We discuss the challenges in achieving this in the scotogenic framework and identify a viable variant. Due to minimality and the interplay between obtaining the correct DM relic abundance and neutrino oscillation data, the model predicts (i) a massless lightest neutrino, (ii) enhanced rate of $0νββ$ decay due to loop corrections involving light DM exchange, and (iii) testable lepton flavor-violating signal $μ\to eγ$. Detecting monoenergetic neutrinos from DM annihilation in next-generation neutrino detectors offers a promising way to test this scenario.

Fully Testable Axion Dark Matter within a Minimal $SU(5)$ GUT

We present a minimal Grand Unified Theory model, based on $SU(5)$ gauge symmetry and a global $U(1)$ Peccei-Quinn symmetry, that predicts the existence of an ultralight axion dark matter within a narrow mass range of $m_a\in[0.1,\,4.7]\,$neV. This mass window is determined through an interplay between gauge coupling unification constraints, partial proton decay lifetime limits, and the need to reproduce the experimentally observed fermion mass spectrum. The entire parameter space of the proposed model will be probed through a synergy between several low-energy experiments that look for proton decay (Hyper-Kamiokande), axion dark matter through axion-photon coupling (ABRACADABRA and DMRadio-GUT) and nucleon electric dipole moments (CASPEr Electric).

Non-perturbative effects for dark sectors with QCD portals

In this work, we consider a class of dark matter (DM) models where the DM does not directly interact with the Standard Model (SM) particles at the tree-level. Therefore, the coannihilation mechanism is crucial in achieving the correct DM relic abundance, which in turn requires the coannihilating partner to be close in mass to the actual DM particle. In our systematisation of the models' class, the mediator and the coannihilation partner are assumed to be charged under QCD interactions. This last feature calls for a scrutiny of non-perturbative effects, namely Sommerfeld factors and bound-state formation, on the annihilations of the colored partner. Such non-perturbative effects are illustrated with an example model comprising a scalar leptoquark mediator, a Dirac vector-like fermion coannihilation partner, and a singlet DM fermion. Phenomenological features of this model, namely DM direct and indirect detection prospects, collider implications, and impact on the muon anomalous magnetic moment, are discussed.

Probing Minimal Grand Unification through Gravitational Waves, Proton Decay, and Fermion Masses

Motivated by the direct discovery of gravitational waves (GWs) from black holes and neutron stars, there is a growing interest in investigating GWs from other sources. Among them, GWs from cosmic strings are particularly fascinating since they naturally appear in a large class of grand unified theories (GUTs). Remarkably, a series of pulsar-timing arrays (PTAs) might have already observed GWs in the nHz regime, hinting towards forming a cosmic string network in the early universe, which could originate from phase transition associated with the seesaw scale emerging from GUT. In this work, we show that if these observations from PTAs are confirmed, GWs from cosmic strings, when combined with fermion masses, gauge coupling unification, and proton decay constraints, the parameter space of the minimal SO(10) GUT becomes exceedingly restrictive. The proposed minimal model is highly predictive and will be fully tested in a number of upcoming gravitational wave observatories.

Asymmetric Leptoquark Pair Production at LHC

We investigate asymmetric leptoquark pair production mechanism at the Large Hadron Collider to advocate its potential relevance to establish reliable constraints on the leptoquark parameter space and its ability to aid in correct identification of these attractive sources of new physics. The main feature of asymmetric pair production that genuinely distinguishes it from the usual leptoquark pair production is given by the fact that the two leptoquarks that are produced in proton-proton collisions through a $t$-channel lepton exchange are not charge conjugates of each other. Hence the proposed name of asymmetric leptoquark pair production for this type of process. We spell out prerequisite conditions for the asymmetric leptoquark pair production mechanism to be operational and enumerate all possible combinations of leptoquark multiplets that can potentially generate it. We finally reinterpret existing leptoquark pair production search results within several simple scalar leptoquark extensions of the Standard Model, assuming that the leptoquarks exclusively couple to either electrons or muons and the first generation quarks, to demonstrate proper inclusion of asymmetric pair production. We consequently present accurate parameter space constraints for the $S_1$, $S_3$, $R_2$, $S_1$+$S_3$, and $S_1$+$R_2$ leptoquark scenarios.
