Combined explanations of $(g-2)_μ$, $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$, $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies in a two-loop radiative neutrino mass model

Motivated by the long-standing tension in the muon anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) and persistent observations of B-physics anomalies in $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ ratios, we construct a simple two-loop radiative neutrino mass model, and propose a combined explanations of all these apparently disjoint phenomena within this framework. Our proposed model consists of two scalar leptoquarks (LQs), a $SU(2)_L$ singlet $S_1\sim (\overline{3},1,1/3)$ and a $SU(2)_L$ triplet $S_3\sim (\overline{3},3,1/3)$ to accommodate $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ anomalies, respectively. The muon receives chirality-enhanced contribution towards its $g-2$ due to the presence of $S_1$ LQ that accounts for the observed deviation from the Standard Model prediction. Furthermore, we introduce a $SU(2)_L$ singlet scalar diquark $ω\sim (\overline{6},1,2/3)$, which is necessary to break lepton number and generate neutrino mass radiatively with the aid of $S_1$ and $S_3$ LQs. We perform a detailed phenomenological analysis of this set-up and demonstrate its viability by providing benchmark points where a fit to the neutrino oscillation data together with proper explanations of the muon AMM puzzle and flavor anomalies are accomplished while simultaneously meeting all other flavor violation and collider bounds.

A Common Origin of Neutrino Masses and $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$, $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ Anomalies

In this work, we present a solution to the persistent tensions in the decay observables $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ by introducing a $SU(2)_L$ doublet and a $SU(2)_L$ triplet scalar leptoquarks (LQs) that reside at the TeV energy scale. Neutrinos that remain massless in the Standard Model receive naturally small masses at one-loop level via the propagation of the same LQs inside the loop. Such a common origin of apparently disjoint phenomenological observations is appealing, and we perform a comprehensive analysis of this set-up. We identify the minimal Yukawa textures required to accommodate these flavor anomalies and to successfully incorporate neutrino oscillation data while being consistent with all experimental constraints. This scenario has the potential to be tested at the experiments by the future improved measurements in the lepton flavor violating processes. Furthermore, proper explanations of these flavor anomalies predict TeV scale LQs that are directly accessible at the LHC.

Resolving electron and muon $g-2$ within the 2HDM

Recent precise measurement of the electron anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) adds to the longstanding tension of the muon AMM and together strongly point towards physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). In this work, we propose a solution to both anomalies in an economical fashion via a light scalar that emerges from a second Higgs doublet and resides in the $\mathcal{O}(10)$-MeV to $\mathcal{O}(1)$-GeV mass range yielding the right sizes and signs for these deviations due to one-loop and two-loop dominance for the muon and the electron, respectively. A scalar of this type is subject to a number of various experimental constraints, however, as we show, it can remain sufficiently light by evading all experimental bounds and has the great potential to be discovered in the near-future low-energy experiments. The analysis provided here is equally applicable to any BSM scenario for which a light scalar is allowed to have sizable flavor-diagonal couplings to the charged leptons. In addition to the light scalar, our theory predicts the existence of a nearly degenerate charged scalar and a pseudoscalar, which have masses of the order of the electroweak scale. We analyze possible ways to probe new-physics signals at colliders and find that this scenario can be tested at the LHC by looking at the novel process $pp \to H^\pm H^\pm jj \to l^\pm l^\pm j j + {E\!\!\!\!/}_{T}$ via same-sign pair production of charged Higgs bosons.

Minimal Realizations of Dirac Neutrino Mass from Generic One-loop and Two-loop Topologies at $d=5$

We carry out a systematic investigation for the minimal Dirac neutrino mass models emerging from generic one-loop and two-loop topologies that arise from $d=5$ effective operator with a singlet scalar, $σ$. To ensure that the tree-level Dirac mass, as well as Majorana mass terms at all orders, are absent for the neutrinos, we work in the framework where the Standard Model is supplemented by the well-motivated $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry. At the one-loop level, we analyze six possible topologies, out of which two of them have the potential to generate desired Dirac neutrino mass. Adopting a systematic approach to select minimal models, we construct seventeen viable one-loop Dirac neutrino mass models. By embracing a similar methodical approach at the two-loop, we work out twenty-three minimal candidates. Among the forty selected economical models, the majority of the models proposed in this work are new. In our search, we also include the scenarios where the particles in the loop carry charges under the color group. Furthermore, we discuss the possible dark matter candidates within a given model, if any, without extending the minimal particle content.

Towards Minimal SU(5)

We propose a simple $SU(5)$ model that connects the neutrino mass generation mechanism to the observed disparity between the masses of charged leptons and down-type quarks. The model is built out of $5$-, $10$-, $15$-, $24$-, and $35$-dimensional representations of $SU(5)$ and comprises two (three) $3 \times 3$ ($3 \times 1$) Yukawa coupling matrices to accommodate all experimentally measured fermion masses and mixing parameters. The gauge coupling unification considerations, coupled with phenomenological constraints inferred from experiments that probe neutrino masses and mixing parameters and/or look for proton decay, fix all relevant mass scales of the model. The proposed scenario places several multiplets at the scales potentially accessible at the LHC and future colliders and correlates this feature with the gauge boson mediated proton decay signatures. It also predicts that one neutrino is massless.

Minimal Dirac Neutrino Mass Models from $U(1)_R$ Gauge Symmetry and Left-Right Asymmetry at Colliders

In this work, we propose minimal realizations for generating Dirac neutrino masses in the context of a right-handed abelian gauge extension of the Standard Model. Utilizing only $U(1)_R$ symmetry, we address and analyze the possibilities of Dirac neutrino mass generation via (a) \textit{tree-level seesaw} and (b) \textit{radiative correction at the one-loop level}. One of the presented radiative models implements the attractive \textit{scotogenic} model that links neutrino mass with Dark Matter (DM), where the stability of the DM is guaranteed from a residual discrete symmetry emerging from $U(1)_R$. Since only the right-handed fermions carry non-zero charges under the $U(1)_R$, this framework leads to sizable and distinctive Left-Right asymmetry as well as Forward-Backward asymmetry discriminating from $U(1)_{B-L}$ models and can be tested at the colliders. We analyze the current experimental bounds and present the discovery reach limits for the new heavy gauge boson $Z^{\prime}$ at the LHC and ILC. Furthermore, we also study the associated charged lepton flavor violating processes, dark matter phenomenology and cosmological constraints of these models.

Peccei-Quinn Symmetry and Nucleon Decay in Renormalizable SUSY SO(10)

We suggest simple ways of implementing Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry to solve the strong CP problem in renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ models with a minimal Yukawa sector. Realistic fermion mass generation requires that a second pair of Higgs doublets survive down to the PQ scale. We show how unification of gauge couplings can be achieved in this context. Higgsino mediated proton decay rate is strongly suppressed by a factor of $(M_{\rm PQ}/M_{\rm GUT})^2$, which enables all SUSY particles to have masses of order TeV. With TeV scale SUSY spectrum, $p \rightarrow \overlineν K^+$ decay rate is expected to be in the observable range. Lepton flavor violating processes $μ\rightarrow eγ$ decay and $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei, induced by the Dirac neutrino Yukawa couplings, are found to be within reach of forthcoming experiments.

On the Origin of Two-Loop Neutrino Mass from SU(5) Grand Unification

In this work we propose a renormalizable model based on the $SU(5)$ gauge group where neutrino mass originates at the two-loop level without extending the fermionic content of the Standard Model (SM). Unlike the conventional $SU(5)$ models, in this proposed scenario, neutrino mass is intertwined with the charged fermion masses. In addition to correctly reproducing the SM charged fermion masses and mixings, neutrino mass is generated at the quantum level, hence naturally explains the smallness of neutrino masses. In this set-up, we provide examples of gauge coupling unification that simultaneously satisfy the proton decay constraints. This model has the potential to be tested experimentally by measuring the proton decay in the future experiments. Scalar leptoquarks that are naturally contained within this framework can accommodate the recent B-physics anomalies.

Simplest Radiative Dirac Neutrino Mass Models

If neutrinos are Dirac particles, their right-handed partners must be present in the theory. Once introduced in the Standard Model (SM), the difference between the baryon number $B$ and the lepton number $L$ can be promoted to a local $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry since the corresponding gauge anomalies can be canceled by the right-handed neutrinos. Furthermore, the extremely small neutrino mass can be explained naturally if it is originated from the quantum correction. In this work, we propose simplest models of radiative Dirac neutrino mass using only $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry, and without introducing additional fermions and without imposing ad hoc symmetries. In this simple framework, we provide minimal models where Dirac neutrino mass appears at the (i) one-loop, (ii) two-loop and (iii) three-loop. By performing systematic analysis, we show that the minimal one-loop model requires three beyond SM scalar multiplets, whereas minimal two-loop and three-loop models require five. The presented two-loop and three-loop Dirac mass models have not appeared in the literature before.

Fermion Masses and Mixings, Leptogenesis and Baryon Number Violation in Pati-Salam Model

In this work we study a predictive model based on a partially unified theory possessing the gauge symmetry of the Pati-Salam group, $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times SU(4)_C$ supplemented by a global Peccei-Quinn symmetry, $U(1)_{PQ}$. A comprehensive analysis of the Higgs potential is carried out in a minimal set-up. The assumed Peccei-Quinn symmetry along with solving the strong CP problem, can provide axion as the dark matter candidate. This minimal set-up with limited number of Yukawa parameters can successfully incorporate the hierarchies in the charged fermion masses and mixings. The automatic existence of the heavy Majorana neutrinos generate the extremely small light neutrino masses through the seesaw mechanism, which is also responsible for producing the observed cosmological matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. We find interesting correlation between the low scale neutrino observables and the baryon asymmetry in this model. Baryon number violating nucleon decay processes mediated by the scalar diquarks and leptoquarks in this framework are found to be, $n,p\to \ell+m, \ell^c + m$ ($m=$ meson, $\ell=$ lepton, $\ell^c=$ antilepton) and $n,p\to \ell+\ell^c + \ell^c$. For some choice of the parameters of the theory, these decay rates can be within the observable range. Another baryon number violating process, the neutron-antineutron oscillation can also be in the observable range.

Resurrecting Minimal Yukawa Sector of SUSY SO(10)

Supersymmetric $SO(10)$ models with Yukawa coupling matrices involving only a $10_H$ and a $\overline{126}_H$ of Higgs fields can lead to a predictive and consistent scenario for fermion masses and mixings, including the neutrino sector. However, when coupled minimally to a symmetry breaking sector that includes a $210_H$ and a $126_H$, these models lead either to an unacceptably small neutrino mass scale, or to non-perturbative values of the gauge couplings. Here we show that with the addition of a $54_H$ to the symmetry breaking sector, the successful predictions of these models for fermion masses and mixings can be maintained. The $54_H$ enables a reduction of the $B-L$ symmetry breaking scale to an intermediate value of order $10^{12}$ GeV, consistent with the observed neutrino mass spectrum, while preserving perturbative gauge coupling unification. We obtain an excellent fit to all fermion masses and mixings in this framework. We analyze carefully the prediction of the model for CP violation in neutrino oscillations. Consistency with proton lifetime, however, requires a mini-split SUSY spectrum with the squarks and sleptons having masses of order 100 TeV, accompanied by TeV scale gauginos and Higgsinos. Such a spectrum may arise from pure gravity mediation, which would predict the partial lifetime for the decay $p \rightarrow \overlineν K^+$ to be an order of magnitude above the current experimental limit.

Anarchy with Hierarchy: A Probabilistic Appraisal

The masses of the charged fermion and the mixing angles among quarks are observed to be strongly hierarchical, while analogous parameters in the neutrino sector appear to be structure-less or anarchical. We develop a class of unified models based on SU(5) symmetry that explains these differing features probabilistically. With the aid of three input parameters that are hierarchical, and with the assumption that all the Yukawa couplings are uncorrelated random variables described by Gaussian distributions, we show by Monte Carlo simulations that the observed features of the entire fermion spectrum can be nicely reproduced. We extend our analysis to an SU(5)-based flavor U(1) model making use of the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism where the order one Yukawa couplings are modeled as random variables, which also shows good agreement with observations.

Yukawa Sector of Minimal SO(10) Unification

We show that in SO(10) models, a Yukawa sector consisting of a real $10_H$, a real $120_H$ and a complex $126_H$ of Higgs fields can provide a realistic fit to all fermion masses and mixings, including the neutrino sector. Although the group theory of SO(10) demands that the $10_H$ and $120_H$ be real, most constructions complexify these fields and impose symmetries exterior to SO(10) to achieve predictivity. The proposed new framework with real $10_H$ and real $120_H$ relies only on SO(10) gauge symmetry, and yet has a limited number of Yukawa parameters. Our analysis shows that while there are restrictions on the observables, a good fit to the entire fermion spectrum can be realized. Unification of gauge couplings is achieved with an intermediate scale Pati-Salam gauge symmetry. Proton decay branching ratios are calculable, with the leading decay modes being $p \rightarrow \overlineν π^+$ and $p \rightarrow e^+ π^0$.

New Class of SO(10) Models for Flavor

We present a new class of unified models based on SO(10) symmetry which provides insights into the masses and mixings of quarks and leptons, including the neutrinos. The key feature of our proposal is the absence of Higgs boson 10_H belonging to the fundamental representation that is normally employed. Flavor mixing is induced via vector-like fermions in the 16 + 16-bar representation. A variety of scenarios, both supersymmetric and otherwise, are analyzed involving a 126_H along with either a 45_H or a 210_H of Higgs boson employed for symmetry breaking. It is shown that this framework, with only a limited number of parameters, provides an excellent fit to the full fermion spectrum, utilizing either type-I or type-II seesaw mechanism. These flavor models can be potentially tested and distinguished in their predictions for proton decay branching ratios, which are analyzed.
