MoGDE: Boosting Mobile Monocular 3D Object Detection with Ground Depth Estimation

Monocular 3D object detection (Mono3D) in mobile settings (e.g., on a vehicle, a drone, or a robot) is an important yet challenging task. Due to the near-far disparity phenomenon of monocular vision and the ever-changing camera pose, it is hard to acquire high detection accuracy, especially for far objects. Inspired by the insight that the depth of an object can be well determined according to the depth of the ground where it stands, in this paper, we propose a novel Mono3D framework, called MoGDE, which constantly estimates the corresponding ground depth of an image and then utilizes the estimated ground depth information to guide Mono3D. To this end, we utilize a pose detection network to estimate the pose of the camera and then construct a feature map portraying pixel-level ground depth according to the 3D-to-2D perspective geometry. Moreover, to improve Mono3D with the estimated ground depth, we design an RGB-D feature fusion network based on the transformer structure, where the long-range self-attention mechanism is utilized to effectively identify ground-contacting points and pin the corresponding ground depth to the image feature map. We conduct extensive experiments on the real-world KITTI dataset. The results demonstrate that MoGDE can effectively improve the Mono3D accuracy and robustness for both near and far objects. MoGDE yields the best performance compared with the state-of-the-art methods by a large margin and is ranked number one on the KITTI 3D benchmark.

Trajectories and Radiation of Charged Particles in the Pulsar Magnetosphere

Trajectories and radiation of the accelerating electrons are studied in the pulsar magnetosphere approximated as the electromagnetic field of the Deutsch's solutions. Because the electrons are accelerated rapidly to ultra-relativistic velocity near the neutron star surface, the electron velocity vector (and then its trajectory) is derived from the balance between Lorentz force and radiation reaction force, which makes the pitch angle between electron trajectories and magnetic field lines nonzero in most part of the magnetosphere. In such a case, the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of synchro-curvature radiation for the accelerating electrons with a mono-energetic form are calculated. Our results indicate that: (i) the pitch angle is the function of electron position ($r, θ, ϕ$) in the open field line regions, and increases with increasing $r$ and $θ$ as well as increasing the inclination angle; (ii) the radius of curvature becomes large along the particle trajectory, and (iii) the SED appears a double peak structure depending on the emission position, where the synchrotron radiation plays an important role in X-ray band and curvature radiation mainly works in GeV band, which is only determined by parameters $α$ and $ζ$

DePS: An improved deep learning model for de novo peptide sequencing

De novo peptide sequencing from mass spectrometry data is an important method for protein identification. Recently, various deep learning approaches were applied for de novo peptide sequencing and DeepNovoV2 is one of the represetative models. In this study, we proposed an enhanced model, DePS, which can improve the accuracy of de novo peptide sequencing even with missing signal peaks or large number of noisy peaks in tandem mass spectrometry data. It is showed that, for the same test set of DeepNovoV2, the DePS model achieved excellent results of 74.22%, 74.21% and 41.68% for amino acid recall, amino acid precision and peptide recall respectively. Furthermore, the results suggested that DePS outperforms DeepNovoV2 on the cross species dataset.

COVID-19 Docking Server: A meta server for docking small molecules, peptides and antibodies against potential targets of COVID-19

Motivation: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by a new type of coronavirus has been emerging from China and led to thousands of death globally since December 2019. Despite many groups have engaged in studying the newly emerged virus and searching for the treatment of COVID-19, the understanding of the COVID-19 target-ligand interactions represents a key chal-lenge. Herein, we introduce COVID-19 Docking Server, a web server that predicts the binding modes between COVID-19 targets and the ligands including small molecules, peptides and anti-bodies. Results: Structures of proteins involved in the virus life cycle were collected or constructed based on the homologs of coronavirus, and prepared ready for docking. The meta platform provides a free and interactive tool for the prediction of COVID-19 target-ligand interactions and following drug discovery for COVID-19.

Augmentation Quotients for Burnside Rings of some Finite $p$-Groups

Let $G$ be a finite group, $Ω(G)$ be its Burnside ring, and $Δ(G)$ its augmentation ideal. Denote by $Δ^n(G)$ and $Q_n(G)$ the $n$-th power of $Δ(G)$ and the $n$-th consecutive quotient group $Δ^n(G)/Δ^{n+1}(G)$, respectively. This paper provides an explicit $\mathbb{Z}$-basis for $Δ^n(\mathcal{H})$ and determine the isomorphism class of $Q_n(\mathcal{H})$ for each positive integer $n$, where $\mathcal{H}=\langle g,h |\, g^{p^m}=h^p=1, h^{-1}gh=g^{p^{m-1}+1}\rangle$, $p$ is an odd prime.
