On Backward Doubly Stochastic Differential Evolutionary System

In this paper, we are concerned with backward doubly stochastic differential evolutionary systems (BDSDESs for short). By using a variational approach based on the monotone operator theory, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the solutions for BDSDESs. We also establish an Itô formula for the Banach space-valued BDSDESs.

Optimal Stochastic Control with Recursive Cost Functionals of Stochastic Differential Systems Reflected in a Domain

In this paper we study the optimal stochastic control problem for stochastic differential systems reflected in a domain. The cost functional is a recursive one, which is defined via generalized backward stochastic differential equations developed by Pardoux and Zhang [20]. The value function is shown to be the unique viscosity solution to the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, which is a fully nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition. For this, we also prove some new estimates for stochastic differential systems reflected in a domain.

Optimal Switching of One-Dimensional Reflected BSDEs, and Associated Multi-Dimensional BSDEs with Oblique Reflection

In this paper, an optimal switching problem is proposed for one-dimensional reflected backward stochastic differential equations (RBSDEs, for short) where the generators, the terminal values and the barriers are all switched with positive costs. The value process is characterized by a system of multi-dimensional RBSDEs with oblique reflection, whose existence and uniqueness are by no means trivial and are therefore carefully examined. Existence is shown using both methods of the Picard iteration and penalization, but under some different conditions. Uniqueness is proved by representation either as the value process to our optimal switching problem for one-dimensional RBSDEs, or as the equilibrium value process to a stochastic differential game of switching and stopping. Finally, the switched RBSDE is interpreted as a real option.

Path-Dependent Optimal Stochastic Control and Viscosity Solution of Associated Bellman Equations

In this paper we study the optimal stochastic control problem for a path-dependent stochastic system under a recursive path-dependent cost functional, whose associated Bellman equation from dynamic programming principle is a path-dependent fully nonlinear partial differential equation of second order. A novel notion of viscosity solutions is introduced. Using Dupire's functional Itô calculus, we characterize the value functional of the optimal stochastic control problem as the unique viscosity solution to the associated path-dependent Bellman equation.

Dynkin Game of Stochastic Differential Equations with Random Coefficients, and Associated Backward Stochastic Partial Differential Variational Inequality

A Dynkin game is considered for stochastic differential equations with random coefficients. We first apply Qiu and Tang's maximum principle for backward stochastic partial differential equations to generalize Krylov estimate for the distribution of a Markov process to that of a non-Markov process, and establish a generalized Itô-Kunita-Wentzell's formula allowing the test function to be a random field of Itô's type which takes values in a suitable Sobolev space. We then prove the verification theorem that the Nash equilibrium point and the value of the Dynkin game are characterized by the strong solution of the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs equation, which is currently a backward stochastic partial differential variational inequality (BSPDVI, for short) with two obstacles. We obtain the existence and uniqueness result and a comparison theorem for strong solution of the BSPDVI. Moreover, we study the monotonicity on the strong solution of the BSPDVI by the comparison theorem for BSPDVI and define the free boundaries. Finally, we identify the counterparts for an optimal stopping time problem as a special Dynkin game.

$W^{m,p}$-Solution ($p\geq2$) of Linear Degenerate Backward Stochastic Partial Differential Equations in the Whole Space

In this paper, we consider the backward Cauchy problem of linear degenerate stochastic partial differential equations. We obtain the existence and uniqueness results in Sobolev space $L^p(Ω; C([0,T];W^{m,p}))$ with both $m\geq 1$ and $p\geq 2$ being arbitrary, without imposing the symmetry condition for the coefficient $σ$ of the gradient of the second unknown---which was introduced by Ma and Yong [Prob. Theor. Relat. Fields 113 (1999)] in the case of $p=2$. To illustrate the application, we give a maximum principle for optimal control of degenerate stochastic partial differential equations.

2D Backward Stochastic Navier-Stokes Equations with Nonlinear Forcing

The paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of a strong solution to a two-dimensional backward stochastic Navier-Stokes equation with nonlinear forcing, driven by a Brownian motion. We use the spectral approximation and the truncation and variational techniques. The methodology features an interactive analysis on basis of the regularity of the deterministic Navier-Stokes dynamics and the stochastic properties of the Itô-type diffusion processes.

Maximum Principle for Quasi-linear Backward Stochastic Partial Differential Equations

In this paper we are concerned with the maximum principle for quasi-linear backward stochastic partial differential equations (BSPDEs for short) of parabolic type. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution to quasi-linear BSPDE with the null Dirichlet condition on the lateral boundary. Then using the De Giorgi iteration scheme, we establish the maximum estimates and the global maximum principle for quasi-linear BSPDEs. To study the local regularity of weak solutions, we also prove a local maximum principle for the backward stochastic parabolic De Giorgi class.

Semi-linear Backward Stochastic Integral Partial Differential Equations driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson point process

In this paper we investigate classical solution of a semi-linear system of backward stochastic integral partial differential equations driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson point process. By proving an Itô-Wentzell formula for jump diffusions as well as an abstract result of stochastic evolution equations, we obtain the stochastic integral partial differential equation for the inverse of the stochastic flow generated by a stochastic differential equation driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson point process. By composing the random field generated by the solution of a backward stochastic differential equation with the inverse of the stochastic flow, we construct the classical solution of the system of backward stochastic integral partial differential equations. As a result, we establish a stochastic Feynman-Kac formula.

Strong Solution of Backward Stochastic Partial Differential Equations in $C^2$ Domains

This paper is concerned with the strong solution to the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for backward stochastic partial differential equations of parabolic type. Existence and uniqueness theorems are obtained, due to an application of the continuation method under fairly weak conditions on variable coefficients and $C^2$ domains. The problem is also considered in weighted Sobolev spaces which allow the derivatives of the solutions to blow up near the boundary. As applications, a comparison theorem is obtained and the semi-linear equation is discussed in the $C^2$ domain.

Harmonic Analysis of Stochastic Equations and Backward Stochastic Differential Equations

The BMO martingale theory is extensively used to study nonlinear multi-dimensional stochastic equations (SEs) in $\cR^p$ ($p\in [1, \infty)$) and backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) in $\cR^p\times \cH^p$ ($p\in (1, \infty)$) and in $\cR^\infty\times \bar{\cH^\infty}^{BMO}$, with the coefficients being allowed to be unbounded. In particular, the probabilistic version of Fefferman's inequality plays a crucial role in the development of our theory, which seems to be new. Several new results are consequently obtained. The particular multi-dimensional linear case for SDEs and BSDEs are separately investigated, and the existence and uniqueness of a solution is connected to the property that the elementary solutions-matrix for the associated homogeneous SDE satisfies the reverse Hölder inequality for some suitable exponent $p\ge 1$. Finally, we establish some relations between Kazamaki's quadratic critical exponent $b(M)$ of a BMO martingale $M$ and the spectral radius of the solution operator for the $M$-driven SDE, which lead to a characterization of Kazamaki's quadratic critical exponent of BMO martingales being infinite.

Multi-dimensional BSDE with Oblique Reflection and Optimal Switching

In this paper, we study a multi-dimensional backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) with oblique reflection, which is a BSDE reflected on the boundary of a special unbounded convex domain along an oblique direction, and which arises naturally in the study of optimal switching problem. The existence of the adapted solution is obtained by the penalization method, the monotone convergence, and the a priori estimations. The uniqueness is obtained by a verification method (the first component of any adapted solution is shown to be the vector value of a switching problem for BSDEs). As applications, we apply the above results to solve the optimal switching problem for stochastic differential equations of functional type, and we give also a probabilistic interpretation of the viscosity solution to a system of variational inequalities.

Filtration-Consistent Dynamic Operator with a Floor and Associated Reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations

This paper introduces the notion of a filtration-consistent dynamic operator with a floor, by suitably formulating four axioms. It is shown that under some suitable conditions, a filtration-consistent dynamic operator with a continuous upper-bounded floor is necessarily represented by the solution of a backward stochastic differential equation reflected upwards on the floor.

Dual Representation as Stochastic Differential Games of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations and Dynamic Evaluations

In this Note, assuming that the generator is uniform Lipschitz in the unknown variables, we relate the solution of a one dimensional backward stochastic differential equation with the value process of a stochastic differential game. Under a domination condition, a filtration-consistent evaluations is also related to a stochastic differential game. This relation comes out of a min-max representation for uniform Lipschitz functions as affine functions. The extension to reflected backward stochastic differential equations is also included.
