Boundary Carroll CFTs: SUSY and Superstrings

We consider two dimensional superconformal Carrollian theories with boundaries and construct two variants of the Boundary Superconformal Carrollian Algebra (BSCCA), viz. the Homogeneous and the Inhomogeneous, by making appropriate identification of the parent superconformal Carrollian algebras. These new algebras are then recovered by appropriate limits of a single copy of Super Virasoro algebra. We then focus on the theory of null tensionless superstrings and construct, for the first time, an open null superstring. The Homogeneous version of the BSCCA is realised as worldsheet symmetries on this open null superstring.

Differential Representation for Carrollian Correlators

The differential representation of AdS correlators offers a framework to express exchange Witten diagrams as functions of non-local differential operators applied to contact Witten diagrams. In this paper, we develop the differential representation for scalar Carrollian correlators. We first construct this representation using the recently formulated Carrollian limit of AdS Witten diagrams. We then provide an alternate intrinsic analysis that leverages the properties of the Carrollian bulk-to-boundary propagator. Using the differential representation, we also obtain differential Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) relations for Carrollian correlators.

The effect of resummation on retarded Green's function and greybody factor in $AdS$ black holes

We investigate the retarded Green's function and the greybody factor in asymptotically AdS black holes. Using the connection coefficients of the Heun equation, expressed in terms of the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) free energy of an $SU(2)$ supersymmetric gauge theory with four fundamental hypermultiplets, we derive asymptotic expansions for both the retarded Green's function and the greybody factor in the small horizon limit. Furthermore, we compute the corrections to these asymptotic expansions resulting from the resummation procedure of the instanton part of the NS function.

Boundary Carrollian CFTs and Open Null Strings

We consider Carrollian conformal field theories in two dimensions and construct the boundary Carrollian conformal algebra (BCCA), opening up innumerable possibilities for further studies, given the growing relevance of Carrollian symmetries. We prove that the BCCA emerges by contracting a single copy of the Virasoro algebra. As an application, we construct, for the first time, open null strings and show that, for Dirichlet boundary conditions, we recover the BCCA as the algebra of constraints. We finally reconstruct our string results by taking the null limit of tensile open strings.

Holographic Thermal Correlators for Hyperbolic $CFT$s

We use holography to compute the exact form of retarded Green's functions for a scalar operator with conformal dimension $Δ$ in a thermal CFT and in its related counterpart with chemical potential in $R^1 \times H^3$. In our analysis, we recast the wave equation of a scalar field in the normal form of Heun's equation in the dual gravity theories described by the AdS hyperbolic blackhole and its charged version. Heun's equation is identified to the semiclassical limit of the BPZ equation for a five-point correlator with one degenerate field insertion in the Liouville theory on the Riemann sphere. The crossing symmetry of conformal block in the Liouville theory eventually gives rise to a set of connection formulas among the solutions of Heun's equation evaluated at different regular singularities. We use the connection formula to reproduce the leading order behaviors of the scalar field near the horizon as well as near the boundary and achieve the exact form of the retarded thermal Green's function. We show a recipe to obtain the exact retarded Green's function for a thermal CFT dual to AdS blackbrane from a high-temperature limit accompanied by a complex mapping on AdS hyperbolic blackhole. Moreover, we show the retarded Green's function for the boundary CFT of Rindler AdS spacetime admits a free integer parameter.

A holographic study of the characteristics of chaos and correlation in the presence of backreaction

In this work, we perform a holographic study to estimate the effect of backreaction on the correlation between two subsystems forming the thermofield double (TFD) state. Each of these subsystems is described as a strongly coupled large-$N_c$ thermal field theory, and the backreaction imparted to it is sourced by the presence of a uniform distribution of heavy static quarks. The TFD state we consider here holographically corresponds to an entangled state of two AdS blackholes, each of which is deformed by a uniform distribution of static strings. In order to make a holographic estimation of correlation between two entangled boundary field theories in presence of backreaction we compute the holographic mutual information in the backreacted eternal blackhole. The late time exponential growth of an early perturbation is a signature of chaos in the boundary thermal field theory. Using the shock wave analysis in the dual bulk theory, we characterize this chaotic behavior by computing the holographic butterfly velocity. We find that there is a reduction in the butterfly velocity due to a correction term that depends on the backreaction parameter. The late time exponential growth of an early perturbation destroys the two-sided correlation, whereas the backreaction always acts in favour of it. Finally we compute the entanglement velocity that essentially encodes the rate of disruption of correlation between two boundary theories.

A Rindler Road to Carrollian Worldsheets

The tensionless limit of string theory has recently been formulated in terms of worldsheet Rindler physics. In this paper, by considering closed strings moving in background Rindler spacetimes, we provide a concrete exemplification of this phenomenon. We first show that strings probing the near-horizon region of a generic non-extremal blackhole become tensionless thereby linking a spacetime Carroll limit to a worldsheet Carroll limit. Then, considering strings in $d$-dimensional Rindler spacetime we find a Rindler structure induced on the worldsheet. Novelties, including folds, appear on the closed string worldsheet pertaining to the formation of the worldsheet horizon. The closed string becomes segmented at these folding points and different segments go into the formation of closed strings in the different Rindler wedges. The Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) or the Conformal Carroll algebra emerges from the closed string Virasoro algebra as the horizon is hit. Quantum states on these accelerated worldsheets are discussed and we show the formation of boundary states from gluing conditions of the different segments of the accelerated closed string.

Fermionic Bell violation in the presence of background electromagnetic fields in the cosmological de Sitter spacetime

The violation of the Bell inequality for Dirac fermions is investigated in the cosmological de Sitter spacetime, in the presence of background electromagnetic fields of constant strengths. The orthonormal Dirac mode functions are obtained and the relevant in-out squeezed state expansion in terms of the Bogoliubov coefficients are found. We focus on two scenarios here : strong electric field and heavy mass limits (with respect to the Hubble constant). Using the squeezed state expansion, we then demonstrate the Bell violations for the vacuum and some maximally entangled initial states. Even though a background magnetic field alone cannot create particles, in the presence of background electric field and or spacetime curvature, it can affect the particle creation rate. Our chief aim thus here is to investigate the role of the background magnetic field strength in the Bell violation. Qualitative differences in this regard for different maximally entangled initial states are shown. Further extension of these results to the so called $α$-vacua are also discussed.

Non-Lorentzian Chaos and Cosmological Holography

We study chaos in non-Lorentzian field theories, specifically Galilean and Carrollian conformal field theories in two dimensions. In a large central charge limit, we find that the Lyapunov exponent saturates the bound on chaos, conjectured originally for relativistic field theories. We recover the same Lyapunov exponent holographically by a shock-wave calculation in three-dimensional flat space cosmologies, providing further evidence for flat space holography.

Rindler on the Worldsheet

We construct the tensionless limit of bosonic string theory in terms of a family of worldsheets with increasing acceleration and show that the null string emerges in the limit of infinite acceleration when the Rindler horizon is hit. We discover a novel phenomenon we call null string complementarity, which gives two distinct observer dependent pictures of the emergence of open string physics from closed strings in the tensionless limit. The closed string vacuum as observed by the inertial worldsheet turns into a D-instanton in the tensionless limit, while in the complementary picture from the accelerated worldsheet one sees the emergence of a D-25 brane. We finally discuss approaching the Rindler horizon through time evolution at constant acceleration and also show how an open string picture arises very naturally.

High temperature behavior of non-local observables in boosted strongly coupled plasma: A holographic study

In this work, we perform a holographic analysis to study non local observables associated to a uniformly \textit{boosted} strongly coupled large $N$ thermal plasma in $d$-dimensions. In order to accomplish the holographic analysis, the appropriate dual bulk theory turns out to be $d+1$ dimensional \textit{boosted} AdS-Schwarzschild blackhole background. In particular, we compute entanglement entropy of the boosted plasma at high temperature living inside a strip geometry with entangling width $l$ in the boundary at a particular instant of time. We also study the two-point correlators in the boundary by following geodesic approximation method. For analyzing the effect of boosting on the thermal plasma and correspondingly on both non local observables, we keep the alignment of the width of region of interest both parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the boost. We find our results significantly modified compared to those in un-boosted plasma up to the quadratic order of the boost velocity $v$. More interestingly, the relative orientation of the boost and the entangling width plays a crucial role to quantify the holographic entanglement entropy in the boundary theory. The breaking of rotational symmetry in the boundary theory due to the boosting of the plasma along a specific flat direction causes this interesting feature.

Background magnetic field and quantum correlations in the Schwinger effect

In this work we consider two complex scalar fields distinguished by their masses coupled to constant background electric and magnetic fields in the $(3+1)$-dimensional Minkowski spacetime and subsequently investigate a few measures quantifying the quantum correlations between the created particle-antiparticle Schwinger pairs. Since the background magnetic field itself cannot cause the decay of the Minkowski vacuum, our chief motivation here is to investigate the interplay between the effects due to the electric and magnetic fields. We start by computing the entanglement entropy for the vacuum state of a single scalar field. Second, we consider some maximally entangled states for the two-scalar field system and compute the logarithmic negativity and the mutual information. Qualitative differences of these results pertaining to the charge content of the states are emphasised. Based upon these results, we suggest some possible effects of a background magnetic field on the degradation of entanglement between states in an accelerated frame, for charged quantum fields.

Effect of back reaction on entanglement and subregion volume complexity in strongly coupled plasma

The back reaction imparted by a uniform distribution of heavy static fundamental quarks on large $N_c$ strongly coupled gauge theory can be holographically realized as a deformation in $AdS$ blackhole background. The presence of back reaction brings significant changes in to the entanglement structure of the strongly coupled boundary theory at finite temperature. Since the deformed blackhole geometry still remains asymptotically $AdS$, the $gauge/gravity$ duality allows us to explore the entanglement structure of back reacted plasma in a quantitative way by computing various measures, e.g holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) and entanglement wedge cross section (EWCS). We explicitly study the variation of those entanglement measures with respect to the uniform density of heavy static fundamental quarks present in the boundary theory. In particular, we notice enhancement of both HEE and EWCS with respect to quark density. We also study the effect of back reaction on the holographic subregion volume complexity. In this analysis we observe an occurrence of logarithmic divergence proportional to the quark density parameter.

Dirac fermion, cosmological event horizons and quantum entanglement

We discuss the field quantisation of a free massive Dirac fermion in the two causally disconnected static patches of the de Sitter spacetime, by using mode functions that are normalisable on the cosmological event horizon. Using this, we compute the entanglement entropy of the vacuum state corresponding to these two regions, for a given fermionic mode. Further extensions of this result to more general static spherically symmetric and stationary axisymmetric spacetimes are discussed. For the stationary axisymmetric Kerr-de Sitter spacetime in particular, the variations of the entanglement entropy with respect to various eigenvalues and spacetime parameters are depicted numerically. We also comment on such variations when instead we consider the non-extremal black hole event horizon of the same spacetime.

Exotic Origins of Tensionless Superstrings

A new type of tensionless superstring theory, called the Inhomogeneous tensionless superstring, has been recently introduced. This is characterised by a residual symmetry algebra on the worldsheet richer in structure than the previously known symmetry algebra related to Homogeneous tensionless superstring. In this paper, we investigate theories of tensile superstring that the Inhomogeneous tensionless superstring with manifestly real fermions could arise from. We provide two different candidates for these parent tensile theories. The nature of the limit dictates that these theories have some exotic features.

A Tale of Three. Tensionless strings and vacuum structure

Within the premise of canonical quantisation, we re-examine the quantum structure of bosonic tensionless string theory. In the classical theory, the worldsheet metric degenerates and the Bondi-Metnzer-Sachs (BMS) algebra arises as the residual symmetries on fixing the tensionless equivalent of the conformal gauge. In the quantum regime, we find, on careful examination, that there are multiple ways to impose constraints to restrict the physical Hilbert space, which in turn lead to three distinct choices of tensionless vacua. We analyse these vacua in detail, commenting on various aspects like the central charges and the spectrum around each of them.

Emergent $α$-like fermionic vacuum structure and entanglement in the hyperbolic de Sitter spacetime

We report a non-trivial feature of the vacuum structure of free massive or massless Dirac fields in the hyperbolic de Sitter spacetime. Here we have two causally disconnected regions, say $R$ and $L$ separated by another region, $C$. We are interested in the field theory in $R\cup L$ to understand the long range quantum correlations between $R$ and $L$. There are local modes of the Dirac field having supports individually either in $R$ or $L$, as well as global modes found via analytically continuing the $R$ modes to $L$ and vice versa. However, we show that unlike the case of a scalar field, the analytic continuation does not preserve the orthogonality of the resulting global modes. Accordingly, we need to orthonormalise them following the Gram-Schmidt prescription, prior to the field quantisation in order to preserve the canonical anti-commutation relations. We observe that this prescription naturally incorporates a spacetime independent continuous parameter, $θ_{\rm RL}$, into the picture. Thus interestingly, we obtain a naturally emerging one-parameter family of $α$-like de Sitter vacua. The values of $θ_{\rm RL}$ yielding the usual thermal spectra of massless created particles are pointed out. Next, using these vacua, we investigate both entanglement and Rényi entropies of either of the regions and demonstrate their dependence on $θ_{\rm RL}$.

Holographic P-wave Superconductors in 1+1 Dimensions

We study $(1+1)$-dimensional p-wave holographic superconductors described by three dimensional Einstein-Maxwell gravity coupled to a massive complex vector field in the context of $AdS_3/CFT_2$ correspondence. In the probe limit where the backreation of matter fields is neglected, we show that there occurs a formation of a vector hair around the black hole below a certain critical temperature. In the dual strongly coupled $(1+1)$-dimensional boundary theory, this holographically corresponds to the formation of a charged vector condensate spontaneously breaking both the $U(1)$ and $SO(1,1)$ symmetries. We numerically compute the ac conductivity for the superconducting phase of the boundary field theory and find that the presence of a magnetic moment term in the dual bulk theory effects the conductivity in the boundary field theory.
