Probing Higgs Width and Top Quark Yukawa Coupling from $t\bar{t}H$ and $t\bar{t}t\bar{t}$ Productions

We demonstrate that four top-quark production is a powerful tool to constrain the top Yukawa coupling. The constraint is robust in the sense that it does not rely on the Higgs boson decay. Taking into account the projection of the $t\bar{t}H$ production by the ATLAS collaobration, we obtain a bound on Higgs boson width, $Γ_H\leq 3.1~Γ_H^{\rm SM}$, at the 14 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of $300~{\rm fb}^{-1}$. Increasing the luminosity to $500~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ yields $Γ_H\leq 2.1~Γ_H^{\rm SM}$.

Strong CP Problem, Neutrino Masses and the 750 GeV Diphoton Resonance

We present an $SU(3)^{}_{c}\times SU(2)^{}_{L}\times SU(2)^{}_{R}\times U(1)_{L}^{}\times U(1)_{R}^{}\rightarrow SU(3)^{}_{c}\times SU(2)^{}_{L}\times SU(2)^{}_{R}\times U(1)^{}_{B-L}$ left-right symmetric model with a discrete parity symmetry to realize a universal seesaw scenario. The model can simultaneously solve the strong CP problem without resorting to the unobserved axion and explain the 750 GeV diphoton resonance reported recently by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the LHC. Owing to large suppressions in the two-loop induced Dirac mass terms, the Majorana mass matrices of left- and right-handed neutrinos naturally share the same structure. That allows us to quantitatively study the neutrinoless double beta decay induced by the right-handed currents.

Isospin-Violating Dark Matter and Neutrinos From the Sun

We study the indirect detection of dark matter through neutrino flux from their annihilation in the center of the Sun, in a class of theories where the dark matter-nucleon spin-independent interactions break the isospin symmetry. We point out that, while the direct detection bounds with heavy targets like Xenon are weakened and reconciled with the positive signals in DAMA and CoGeNT experiments, the indirect detection using neutrino telescopes can impose a relatively stronger constraint and brings tension to such explanation, if the annihilation is dominated by heavy quark or $τ$-lepton final states. As a consequence, the qualified isospin violating dark matter candidate has to preferably annihilate into light flavors.

Dynamical R-parity Breaking at the LHC

In a class of extensions of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with (B-L)/left-right symmetry that explains the neutrino masses, breaking R-parity symmetry is an essential and dynamical requirement for successful gauge symmetry breaking. Two consequences of these models are: (i) a new kind of R-parity breaking interaction that protects proton stability but adds new contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay and (ii) an upper bound on the extra gauge and parity symmetry breaking scale which is within the large hadron collider (LHC) energy range. We point out that an important prediction of such theories is a potentially large mixing between the right-handed charged lepton ($e^c$) and the superpartner of the right-handed gauge boson ($\widetilde W_R^+$), which leads to a brand new class of R-parity violating interactions of type $\widetilde{μ^c}^\daggerν_μ^c e^c$ and $\widetilde{d^c}^\dagger\u^c e^c$. We analyze the relevant constraints on the sparticle mass spectrum and the LHC signatures for the case with smuon/stau NLSP and gravitino LSP. We note the "smoking gun" signals for such models to be lepton flavor/number violating processes: $pp\to μ^\pmμ^\pm e^+e^-jj$ (or $τ^\pmτ^\pm e^+e^-jj$) and $pp\toμ^\pm e^\pm b \bar{b} jj$ (or $τ^\pm e^\pm b \bar{b} jj$) without significant missing energy. The predicted multi-lepton final states and the flavor structure make the model be distinguishable even in the early running of the LHC.

Energy Dependence of Direct Detection Cross Section for Asymmetric Mirror Dark Matter

In a recent paper, four of the present authors proposed a class of dark matter models where generalized parity symmetry leads to equality of dark matter abundance with baryon asymmetry of the Universe and predicts dark matter mass to be around 5 GeV. In this note we explore how this model can be tested in direct search experiments. In particular, we point out that if the dark matter happens to be the mirror neutron, the direct detection cross section has the unique feature that it increases at low recoil energy unlike the case of conventional WIMPs. It is also interesting to note that the predicted spin-dependent scattering could make significant contribution to the total direct detection rate, especially for light nucleus. With this scenario, one could explain recent DAMA and CoGeNT results.

Leptogenesis as a Common Origin for Matter and Dark Matter

We propose a model of asymmetric dark matter (DM) where the dark sector is an identical copy of both forces and matter of the standard model (SM) as in the mirror universe models discussed in literature. In addition to being connected by gravity, the SM and DM sectors are also connected at high temperature by a common set of heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos via their Yukawa couplings to leptons and Higgs bosons. The lightest nucleon in the dark (mirror) sector is a candidate for dark matter. The out of equilibrium decay of right-handed neutrino produces equal lepton asymmetry in both sectors via resonant leptogenesis which then get converted to baryonic and dark baryonic matter. The dark baryon asymmetry due to higher dark nucleon masses leads to higher dark matter density compared to the familiar baryon density that is observed. The standard model neutrinos in this case acquire masses from the inverse seesaw mechanism. A kinetic mixing between the U(1) gauge fields of the two sectors is introduced to guarantee the success of Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis.

R-Parity Breaking via Type II Seesaw, Decaying Gravitino Dark Matter and PAMELA Positron Excess

We propose a new class of R-parity violating extension of MSSM with type II seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses where an unstable gravitino is the dark matter of the Universe. It decays predominantly into three leptons final states, thereby providing a natural explanation of the positron excess but no antiproton excess in the PAMELA experiment. The model can explain neutrino masses without invoking any high scale physics while keeping the pre-existing baryon asymmetry of the universe in tact.

Thermal Unparticles: A New Form of Energy Density in the Universe

Unparticle $\U$ with scaling dimension $d_\U$ has peculiar thermal properties due to its unique phase space structure. We find that the equation of state parameter $ω_\U$, the ratio of pressure to energy density, is given by $1/(2d_\U +1)$ providing a new form of energy in our universe. In an expanding universe, the unparticle energy density $ρ_\U(T)$ evolves dramatically differently from that for photons. For $d_\U >1$, even if $ρ_\U(T_D)$ at a high decoupling temperature $T_D$ is very small, it is possible to have a large relic density $ρ_\U(T^0_γ)$ at present photon temperature $T^0_γ$, large enough to play the role of dark matter. We calculate $T_D$ and $ρ_\U(T^0_γ)$ using photon-unparticle interactions for illustration.

Leptogenesis and LHC Physics with Type III See-Saw

The See-Saw mechanism provides a nice way to explain why neutrino masses are so much lighter than their charged lepton partners. It also provides a nice way to explain baryon asymmetry in our universe via the leptogenesis mechanism. In this talk we review leptogenesis and LHC physics in a See-Saw model proposed in 1989, now termed the Type III See-Saw model. In this model, $SU(2)_L$ triplet leptons are introduced with the neutral particles of the triplets playing the role of See-Saw. The triplet leptons have charged partners with standard model gauge interactions resulting in many new features. The gauge interactions of these particles make it easier for leptognesis with low masses, as low as a TeV is possible. The gauge interactions also make the production and detection of triplet leptons at LHC possible. The See-Saw mechanism and leptogenesis due to Type III See-Saw may be tested at LHC.

Flavorful $Z^\prime$ signatures at LHC and ILC

There are lots of new physics models which predict an extra neutral gauge boson, referred as Z'-boson. In a certain class of these new physics models, the Z'-boson has flavor-dependent couplings with the fermions in the Standard Model (SM). Based on a simple model in which couplings of the SM fermions in the third generation with the Z'-boson are different from those of the corresponding fermions in the first two generations, we study the signatures of Z'-boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the International Linear Collider (ILC). We show that at the LHC, the Z'-boson with mass around 1 TeV can be produced through the Drell-Yan processes and its dilepton decay modes provide us clean signatures not only for the resonant production of Z'-boson but also for flavor-dependences of the production cross sections. We also study fermion pair productions at the ILC involving the virtual Z'-boson exchange. Even though the center-of-energy of the ILC is much lower than a Z'-boson mass, the angular distributions and the forward-backward asymmetries of fermion pair productions show not only sizable deviations from the SM predictions but also significant flavor-dependences.

Constraints on Unparticle Interactions from Invisible Decays of Z, Quarkonia and Neutrinos

Unparticles ($\U$) interact weakly with particles. The direct signature of unparticles will be in the form of missing energy. We study constraints on unparticle interactions using totally invisible decay modes of $Z$, vector quarkonia $V$ and neutrinos. The constraints on the unparticle interaction scale $Λ_\U$ are very sensitive to the dimension $d_\U$ of the unparticles. From invisible $Z$ and $V$ decays, we find that with $d_\U$ close to 1 for vector $\U$, the unparticle scale $Λ_\U$ can be more than $10^4$ TeV, and for $d_\U$ around 2, the scale can be lower than one TeV. From invisible neutrino decays, we find that if $d_\U$ is close to 3/2, the scale can be more than the Planck mass, but with $d_\U$ around 2 the scale can be as low as a few hundred GeV. We also study the possibility of using $V (Z)\to γ+ \U$ to constrain unparticle interactions, and find that present data give weak constraints.

Constraints on Unparticle Interactions from Particle and Antiparticle Oscillations

We study unparticle effects on particle and antiparticle osillations in meson-antimeson, and muonium-antimuonium systems. Unlike usual tree level contributions to meson oscillations from heavy particle exchange with small $Γ_{12}$, the unparticle may have sizeable contributions to both $M_{12}$ and $Γ_{12}$ due to fractional dimension $d_\U$ of the unparticle. We find that very stringent constraints on the unparticle and particle interactions can be obtained. If unparticle effect dominates the contributions (which may happen in $D^0-\bar D^0$ mixing) to meson mixing parameters $x$ and $y$, we find that $x/y =\cot(πd_\U)$. Interesting constraints on unparticle and particle interactions can also be obtained using muonion and antimuonion oscillation data. We also comment on unparticle effects on CP violation in meson oscillations.

Interactions of Unparticles with Standard Model Particles

We study interactions of unparticles ${\cal {U}}$ of dimension $d_{\cal {U}}$ due to Georgi with Standard Model (SM) fields through effective operators. The unparticles describe the low energy physics of a non-trivial scale invariant sector. Since unparticles come from beyond the SM physics, it is plausible that they transform as a singlet under the SM gauge group. This helps tremendously in limiting possible interactions. We analyze interactions of scalar ${\cal {U}}$, vector ${\cal {U}}$$^μ$ and spinor ${\cal {U}}$$^s$ unparticles with SM fields and derivatives up to dimension four. Using these operators, we discuss different features of producing unparticles at $e^+ e^-$ collider and other phenomenologies. It is possible to distinguish different unparticles produced at $e^+e^-$ collider by looking at various distributions of production cross sections.

SUSY R-parity violating contributions to the width differences for $D-\bar{D}$ and $B_{d,s}-\bar B_{d,s}$ systems

We study R-parity violating contributions to the mixing parameter $y$ for $D^0 -\bar D^0$ and $B^0_{d,s} - \bar B^0_{d,s}$ systems. We first obtain general expressions for new physics contributions to $y$ from effective four fermion operators. We then use them to study R-parity contributions. We find that R-parity violating contributions to $D^0 - \bar D^0$ mixing, and $B_{d}^0 - \bar B_{d}^0$ to be small. There may be sizable contribution to $B_s^0 -\bar B_s^0$ mixing. We also obtain some interesting bounds on R-parity violating parameters using known Standard Model predictions and experimental data.

Spontaneous CP Violating Phase as The CKM Matrix Phase

We propose that the CP violating phase in the CKM mixing matrix is identical to the CP phases responsible for the spontaneous CP violation in the Higgs potential. A specific multi-Higgs model with Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry is constructed to realize this idea. The CP violating phase does not vanish when all Higgs masses become large. There are flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) interactions mediated by neutral Higgs bosons at the tree level. However, unlike general multi-Higgs models, the FCNC Yukawa couplings are fixed in terms of the quark masses and CKM mixing angles. Implications for meson-anti-meson mixing, including recent data on $D-\bar D$ mixing, and neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) are studied. We find that the neutral Higgs boson masses can be at the order of one hundred GeV. The neutron EDM can be close to the present experimental upper bound.

Hexagonal SU(3) Unification and its Manifestation at the TeV Scale

We consider $SU(3)_{C}\times SU(2)_{AL}\times SU(2)_{BL}\times U(1)_{Y}$ as the low-energy subgroup of supersymmetric $SU(3)^{6}$ unification. This may imply small deviations from quark-lepton universality at the TeV scale, as allowed by neutron-decay data. New particles are predicted with specific properties. We discuss in particular the new heavy gauge bosons corresponding to $SU(2)_{AL} \times SU(2)_{BL} \to SU(2)_L$.

Hybrid Seesaw Neutrino Masses with A_4 Family Symmetry

We consider the scenario in which neutrino data are explained by the interplay of type I and II seesaw terms in the Majorana neutrino mass matrix ${\cal M}_ν= {\cal M}_L - {\cal M}_D {\cal M}_R^{-1} {\cal M}_D^T$. We construct a predictive model with ${\cal M}_L$ proportional to the unit matrix, 3 diagonal texture zeros in ${\cal M}_R$, and ${\cal M}_D$ diagonal. We show how this pattern can be maintained by the non-Abelian discrete symmetry $A_4$, and discuss its phenomenological consequences. It turns out that the two types of seesaw give contributions of the same order to ${\cal M}_ν$. In the CP conserving case, we find $\sinθ_{13}\approx 2/(\tan 2θ_{23} \tan 2θ_{12})$ and we predict inverted (normal) ordering of the mass spectrum for $\tan^2θ_{12} < 0.5 ~(>0.5)$.

Discrete Symmetry and CP Phase of the Quark Mixing Matrix

A simple specific pattern of the two 3 X 3 quark mass matrices is proposed, resulting in a prediction of the CP phase of the charged-current mixing matrix V_CKM, i.e. sin 2 phi_1 (beta) = 0.733, which is in remarkable agreement with data, i.e. sin 2 phi_1 = 0.728 +/- 0.056 +/- 0.023 from Belle and sin 2 beta = 0.722 +/- 0.040 +/- 0.023 from Babar. This pattern can be maintained by a discrete family symmetry, an example of which is D_7, the symmetry group of the heptagon.
