Route-Constrained Robust Fusion Estimation for MEMS/GNSS Integrated Navigation of Unmanned Ground Vehicles in GNSS Degraded Environments

To address cumulative localization drift of unmanned ground vehicles in structured road environments under severe Global Navigation Satellite System signal occlusion, this paper proposes a robust route-constrained state estimation method. During periods without satellite signals, the proposed method establishes the correspondence between the historical dead reckoning trajectory and local segments of the mission route extracted from a high-definition map, and estimates a route-referenced position via a two-dimensional rigid transformation. The estimated position is then formulated as a pseudo-position observation and incorporated into an Extended Kalman Filter update. In this way, route constraints at the road level can be continuously injected into a unified state estimation framework, thereby suppressing position deviation relative to the mission route while indirectly improving azimuth estimation. To enhance practical applicability, engineering strategies, such as trigger control, matching quality validation, route offset compensation, and single update correction limiting, are further introduced. Experiments in three representative scenarios, including a long tunnel, a multi-segment tunnel, and a curved tunnel, show that the proposed method effectively suppresses error accumulation during satellite outages, reduces the risk of large maximum deviation, and improves localization continuity and road-level usability.

FE-GUT: Factor Graph Optimization hybrid with Extended Kalman Filter for tightly coupled GNSS/UWB Integration

Precise positioning and navigation information has been increasingly important with the development of the consumer electronics market. Due to some deficits of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), such as susceptible to interferences, integrating of GNSS with additional alternative sensors is a promising approach to overcome the performance limitations of GNSS-based localization systems. Ultra-Wideband (UWB) can be used to enhance GNSS in constructing an integrated localization system. However, most low-cost UWB devices lack a hardware-level time synchronization feature, which necessitates the estimation and compensation of the time-offset in the tightly coupled GNSS/UWB integration. Given the flexibility of probabilistic graphical models, the time-offset can be modeled as an invariant constant in the discretization of the continuous model. This work proposes a novel architecture in which Factor Graph Optimization (FGO) is hybrid with Extend Kalman Filter (EKF) for tightly coupled GNSS/UWB integration with online Temporal calibration (FE-GUT). FGO is utilized to precisely estimate the time-offset, while EKF provides initailization for the new factors and performs time-offset compensation. Simulation-based experiments validate the integrated localization performance of FE-GUT. In a four-wheeled robot scenario, the results demonstrate that, compared to EKF, FE-GUT can improve horizontal and vertical localization accuracy by 58.59\% and 34.80\%, respectively, while the time-offset estimation accuracy is improved by 76.80\%. Graphical State Space Model

In this paper, a new framework, named as graphical state space model, is proposed for the real time optimal estimation of a class of nonlinear state space model. By discretizing this kind of system model as an equation which can not be solved by Extended Kalman filter, factor graph optimization can outperform Extended Kalman filter in some cases. A simple nonlinear example is given to demonstrate the efficiency of this framework.

Global RTK Positioning in Graphical State Space

This paper proposes a new method for RTK post-processing. Different from the traditional forward-backward Kalman filter, in our method, the whole system equation is built on a graphical state space model and solved by factor graph optimization. The position solution provided by the forward Kalman filter is used as the linearization points of the graphical state space model. Constant variables, such as double-difference ambiguity, will exist as constants in the graphical state space model, not as time-series variables. It is shown by experiment results that factor graph optimization with a graphical state space model is more effective than Kalman filter with a traditional discrete-time state space model for RTK post-processing problem.
