Metal-Mott Insulator Transition and Spin Exchange of Two-Component Fermi Gas with Spin-Orbit Coupling in Two-Dimension Square Optical Lattices

Effects of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on metal-Mott insulator transition (MMIT) and spin exchange physics (SEP) of two-component Fermi gases in two-dimension half-filling square optical lattices are investigated. In the frame of Kotliar and Ruckenstein slave boson and the second order perturbation theory, the phase boundary of paramagnetic MMIT and spin exchange Hamiltonian are calculated. In addition by adopting two mean-field ansatzs including antiferromagnetic, ferromagnetic and spiral phases, we find that SOC can drive a quantum phase transition from antiferromagnet to spiral phase.

Condensate Fraction and Pair Coherence Lengths of Two-Dimension Fermi Gases with Spin-Orbit Coupling

The effects of Rashba spin-orbit coupling on BCS-BEC crossover, the condensate fraction and pair coherence lengths for a two-component attractive Fermi gas in two dimension are studied. The results at $T=0K$ indicate that (1) when the strength of SOC is beyond a critical value, BCS-BEC crossover does not happen in a conventional sense; (2) SOC enhances the condensate fraction, but suppresses pair coherence lengths.

Casimir interaction between topological insulators with finite surface band gap

Casimir interaction between topological insulators with opposite topological magnetoelectric polarizabilities and finite surface band gaps has been investigated. For large surface band gap limit$(m\rightarrow\infty)$, we can obtain results given in [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{106}, 020403 (2011)]. For small surface band gap limit$(m\rightarrow0)$, Casimir interaction between topological insulators is attractive and analogy to ideal mental in short separation limit. Generally, there is a critical value $m_c$ and when the surface band gap is greater than the critical value, the Casimir force is repulsive in an intermediate separation region. We estimate the critical surface band gap $m_c \sim 1/(2a)$, where $a$ is a critical separation where Casimir force vanishes.

Topological Phase Separation In Trapped Ultracold Fermionic Gases

We investigate the harmonically trapped 2D fermionic systems with a effective spin-orbit coupling and intrinsic s-wave superfluidity under the local density approximation, and find that there is a critical value for Zeeman field. When the Zeeman field larger than the critical value, the topological superfluid phases emerge and coexist with the normal superfluid phase, topological phase separation, in the trapped region. Otherwise, the superfluid phase is topologically trivial.

BCS-BEC Crossover in Mix-dimensional Fermi Gases

We investigate a mix-dimensional Fermi-Fermi mixture in which one species is confined in two-dimensional(2D) space while the other is free in three-dimensional space(3D). We determine the superfluid transition temperature $T_{c}$ for the entire BCS-BEC crossover including the important effects of noncondensed pairs. We find that the transition temperature reduces while the imbalance of mass is increased or lattice constant ($dz$) is reduced. In population imbalance case, the stability of superfluid is sharply destroyed by increasing the polarization.

Orbital Diamagnetism of Weak-doped Bilayer Graphene in Magnetic Field

We investigate the orbital diamagnetism of a weak-doped bilayer graphene (BLG) in spatially smoothly varying magnetic field and obtain the general analytic expression of the orbital susceptibility of BLG, with finite wave number and Fermi energy, at zero temperature. We find that the magnetic field screening factor of BLG is dependent with the wave number, which results in a more complicated screening behavior compared with that of monolayer graphene (MLG). We also study the induced magnetization, electric current in BLG, under nonuniform magnetic field, and find that they are qualitatively different from that in MLG and two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). However, similar to the MLG, the magnetic object placed above BLG is repelled by a diamagnetic force from BLG, approximately equivalent to a force produced by its mirror image on the other side of BLG with a reduced amplitude dependent with the typical length of the systems. BLG shows crossover behaviors in the responses to the external magnetic field as the intermediate between MLG and 2DEG.

Generalized quantization condition in topological insulator

The topological magnetoelectric effect (TME) is the fundamental quantization effect for topological insulators in units of the fine structure constant $α$. In [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 166803(2010)], a topological quantization condition of the TME is given under orthogonal incidence of the optical beam, in which the wave length of the light or the thickness of the TI film must be tuned to some commensurate values. This fine tuning is difficult to realize experimentally. In this article, we give manifestly $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ covariant expressions for Kerr and Faraday angles at oblique incidence at a topological insulator thick film. We obtain a generalized quantization condition independent of material details, and propose a more easily realizable optical experiment, in which only the incidence angle is tuned, to directly measure the topological quantization associated with the TME.

Minimal Conductivity of Topological Surface States with Magnetic Impurities

In this paper we use the semiclassical Boltzmann equation to investigate the transport properties of Dirac fermion on the surface of topological insulator with magnetic impurities. The results obtained show that there is also a minimal conductivity in this system as in graphene. We also argue the low temperature transport property, and find that there is no low temperature anomaly known as Kondo effect when the temperature is T>10^{-6}K.

Screening-Induced Transport at Finite Temperature in Bilayer Graphene

We calculate the temperature-dependent charge carrier transport of bilayer graphene (BLG) impacted by Coulomb impurity scattering within the random phase approximation. We find the polarizability is equal to the density of states at zero momentum transfer and is enhanced by a factor $\log{4}$ at large momentum transfer for arbitrary temperature. The sharp cusp of static polarizability at $q=2k_F$, due to the strong backward scattering, would be smooth by the increasing temperatures. We also obtain the asymptotic behaviors of conductivity of BLG at low and high temperature, and find it turns from a two dimensional electron gas (2DEG) like linear temperature metallic behavior to a single layer graphene (SLG) like quadratic temperature insulating behavior as the temperature increases.

An exact spin liquid state on the kagome lattice with topological order

We find an exact spin liquid state without time reversal symmetry on the kagome lattice with odd number of electrons per unit cell and explicit wave functions for all eigenstates. We also obtain that all spin-spin correlations are zero except trivial cases. We then show that there are anyonic excitations in our model. Finally, we demonstrate the existence of ground state degeneracy and gapless edge states indicating nontrivial topological order in our model. We also label all eiginstates on torus by local and global string operators.

Oscillation of Pauli Paramagnetism in Rotating Two-Component Fermionic Atom Gases

By rotating two-component fermionic atom gases in uniform magnetic field, a similar physical situation with de Haas-van Alphen effect is constructed. We calculate magnetic moment of the system and find that owing to an existence of effective magnetic field coming from the rotation, the magnetic moment also shows the oscillatory behavior about magnetic field, but it is completely different from the famous oscillation of de Haas-van Alphen effect. This distinction is due to that in the atomic gases the orbital motion of atom only couples to rotation and does not contribute to magnetic moment in the light of atomic charge neutrality.

Polaron Properties of an Impurity in Bose-Einstein-Condensation

In this paper we study an impurity in Bose-Einstein-Condensate system at $T=0K$ and suppose the contact forms for boson-boson and boson-impurity interactions. Using Bogoliubov theory and a further approximation corresponding to only think over the forward scattering of impurity by bosons, we derive a reduced Hamiltonian whose form is the same as the Fröhlich Hamiltonian for large polaron. By using Lee-Low-Pines (LLP) theory for large polaron, we obtain the effective mass of impurity, the phonon number carried by impurity and the energy related to the existence of impurity. In addition, we also discuss the valid range for forward-scattering approximation.

Finite Temperature Phase Diagram in Rotating Bosonic Optical Lattice

Finite temperature phase boundary between superfluid phase and normal state is analytically derived by studying the stability of normal state in rotating bosonic optical lattice. We also prove that the oscillation behavior of critical hopping matrix directly follows the upper boundary of Hofstadter butterfly as the function of effective magnetic field.

Renormalization of Orientable Non-Commutative Complex $Φ^6_3$ Model

In this paper we prove that the Grosse-Wulkenhaar type non-commutative orientable complex scalar $ϕ^6_3$ theory, with two non-commutative coordinates and the third one commuting with the other two, is renormalizable to all orders in perturbation theory. Our proof relies on a multiscale analysis in x space.

Optimal 1->M universal quantum cloning via spin networks

We present a scheme that transform 1 qubit to M identical copies with optimal fidedelity via free dynamical evolution of spin star networks. We show that the Heisenberg XXZ coupling can fulfill the challenge. The initial state of the copying machine and the parameters of the spin Hamiltonian are discussed in detail. Furthermore we have proposed a feasible method to prepare the initial state of the copying machine.

Directional Ordering of Fluctuations in a Two-dimensional Compass Model

In the Mott insulating phase of the transition metal oxides, the effective orbital-orbital interaction is directional both in the orbital space and in the real space. We discuss a classical realization of directional coupling in two dimensions. Despite extensive degeneracy of the ground state, the model exhibits partial orbital ordering in the form of directional ordering of fluctuations at low temperatures stabilized by an entropy gap. Transition to the disordered phase is shown to be in the Ising universality class through exact mapping and multicanonical Monte Carlo simulations.
