PolyU-BPCoMa: A Dataset and Benchmark Towards Mobile Colorized Mapping Using a Backpack Multisensorial System

Constructing colorized point clouds from mobile laser scanning and images is a fundamental work in surveying and mapping. It is also an essential prerequisite for building digital twins for smart cities. However, existing public datasets are either in relatively small scales or lack accurate geometrical and color ground truth. This paper documents a multisensorial dataset named PolyU-BPCoMA which is distinctively positioned towards mobile colorized mapping. The dataset incorporates resources of 3D LiDAR, spherical imaging, GNSS and IMU on a backpack platform. Color checker boards are pasted in each surveyed area as targets and ground truth data are collected by an advanced terrestrial laser scanner (TLS). 3D geometrical and color information can be recovered in the colorized point clouds produced by the backpack system and the TLS, respectively. Accordingly, we provide an opportunity to benchmark the mapping and colorization accuracy simultaneously for a mobile multisensorial system. The dataset is approximately 800 GB in size covering both indoor and outdoor environments. The dataset and development kits are available at https://github.com/chenpengxin/PolyU-BPCoMa.git.

A Model Analyzing Life Cycle of Periodical Cicadas

This paper focuses on a mathematical model interpreting the prime number life cycle of periodical cicadas.Changed the viewpoint to predators rather than the prey, this model fits reality very well by utilizing some principles and assumption. With the definition of the predator income, natural selection from predators seems to be the main reason for such a long life cycle.Consequent solution of this model is exactly the fact of real nature.

A Sorting Algorithm Based on Calculation

This article introduces an adaptive sorting algorithm that can relocate elements accurately by substituting their values into a function which we name it the guessing function. We focus on building this function which is the mapping relationship between record values and their corresponding sorted locations essentially. The time complexity of this algorithm O(n),when records distributed uniformly. Additionally, similar approach can be used in the searching algorithm.

A Fixed-Length Coding Algorithm for DNA Sequence Compression

While achieving a compression ratio of 2.0 bits/base, the new algorithm codes non-N bases in fixed length. It dramatically reduces the time of coding and decoding than previous DNA compression algorithms and some universal compression programs.

A DNA Sequence Compression Algorithm Based on LUT and LZ77

This article introduces a new DNA sequence compression algorithm which is based on LUT and LZ77 algorithm. Combined a LUT-based pre-coding routine and LZ77 compression routine, this algorithm can approach a compression ratio of 1.9bits \slash base and even lower. The biggest advantage of this algorithm is fast execution, small memory occupation and easy implementation.

A Predation Behavior Model Based on Game Theory

This article adopts game theory to build a model for explaining the predation behavior of animals. We assume that both the prey and the preydator have two stratigies in this game, the active one and the passive one.By calculating the outcome and the income of energy in different stratigies, we find the solution to analyze the different evolution path of both the prey and the predator.A simulation result approximately represents the correctness of our model.
