Improving imaging resolution of shaking targets by Fourier-transform ghost diffraction

For conventional imaging, shaking of the imaging system or the target leads to the degradation of imaging resolution. In this work, the influence of the target's shaking to fourier-transform ghost diffraction (FGD) is investigated. The analytical results, which are backed up by numerical simulation and experiments, demonstrate that the quiver of target has no effect on the resolution of FGD, thus the target's imaging with high spatial resolution can be always achieved by phase-retrieval method from the FGD patterns. This approach can be applied in high-precision imaging systems, to overcome the influence of the system's shaking to imaging resolution.

Ghost imaging lidar via sparsity constraints

For remote sensing, high-resolution imaging techniques are helpful to catch more characteristic information of the target. We extend pseudo-thermal light ghost imaging to the area of remote imaging and propose a ghost imaging lidar system. For the first time, we demonstrate experimentally that the real-space image of a target at about 1.0 km range with 20 mm resolution is achieved by ghost imaging via sparsity constraints (GISC) technique. The characters of GISC technique compared to the existing lidar systems are also discussed.

Super-resolution far-field ghost imaging via compressive sampling

Much more image details can be resolved by improving the system's imaging resolution and enhancing the resolution beyond the system's Rayleigh diffraction limit is generally called super-resolution. By combining the sparse prior property of images with the ghost imaging method, we demonstrated experimentally that super-resolution imaging can be nonlocally achieved in the far field even without looking at the object. Physical explanation of super-resolution ghost imaging via compressive sampling and its potential applications are also discussed.

Correlated imaging through atmospheric turbulence

Correlated imaging through atmospheric turbulence is studied, and the analytical expressions describing turbulence effects on image resolution are derived. Compared with direct imaging, correlated imaging can reduce the influence of turbulence to a certain extent and reconstruct high-resolution images. The result is backed up by numerical simulations, in which turbulence-induced phase perturbations are simulated by random phase screens inserting propagation paths.

Super-resolution single-beam imaging via compressive sampling

Based on compressive sampling techniques and short exposure imaging, super-resolution imaging with thermal light is experimentally demonstrated exploiting the sparse prior property of images for standard conventional imaging system. Differences between super-resolution imaging demonstrated in this letter and super-resolution ghost imaging via compressive sampling (arXiv. Quant-ph/0911.4750v1 (2009)), and methods to further improve the imaging quality are also discussed.

Fourier-transfrom Ghost Imaging based on Compressive Sampling algorithm

A special algorithm for the Fourier-transform Ghost Imaging (GI) scheme is discussed based on the Compressive Sampling (CS) theory. The CS algorithm could also be used for the Fourier spectrum reconstruction of pure phase object by setting a proper sensing matrix. This could find its application in diffraction imaging of X-ray, neutron and electron with higher efficiency and resolution. Experiment results are also presented to prove the feasibility.

The effect of spatial transverse coherence property of a thermal source on Ghost imaging and Ghost imaging via compressive sampling

Both ghost imaging (GI) and ghost imaging via compressive sampling (GICS) can nonlocally image an object. We report the influence of spatial transverse coherence property of a thermal source on GI and GICS and show that, using the same acquisition numbers, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of images recovered by GI will be reduced while the quality of reconstructed images will be enhanced for GICS as the spatial transverse coherence lengths located on the object plane are decreased. Differences between GI and GICS, methods to further improve the quality and image extraction efficiency of GICS, and its potential applications are also discussed.

Fourier-transform Ghost Imaging for pure phase object based on Compressive Sampling algorithm

A special algorithm for the Fourier-transform Ghost Imaging (GI) scheme is discussed based on the Compressive Sampling (CS) theory. Though developed mostly in real space, CS algorithm could also be used for the Fourier spectrum reconstruction of pure phase object by setting a proper sensing matrix. This could find its application in diffraction imaging of X-ray, neutron and electron with higher efficiency and resolution. Simulation and experiment results are also presented to prove the feasibility.

Super-resolution ghost imaging via compressive sampling reconstruction

For ghost imaging, pursuing high resolution images and short acquisition times required for reconstructing images are always two main goals. We report an image reconstruction algorithm called compressive sampling (CS) reconstruction to recover ghost images. By CS reconstruction, ghost imaging with both super-resolution and a good signal-to-noise ratio can be obtained via short acquisition times. Both effect influencing and approaches further improving the resolution of ghost images via CS reconstruction, relationship between ghost imaging and CS theory are also discussed.

Imaging in scattering media via the second-order correlation of light field

Imaging with the second-order correlation of two light fields is a method to image an object by two-photon interference involving a joint detection of two photons at distant space-time points. We demonstrate for the first time that an image with high quality can still be obtained in the scattering media by applying the second-order correlation of illuminating light field. The scattering effect on the visibility of images is analyzed both theoretically and experimentally. Potential applications and the methods to further improve the visibility of the images in scattering media are also discussed.

Ghost imaging in scattering media

Ghost imaging with thermal light in scattering media is investigated. We demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally for the first time that the image with high quality can still be obtained in the scattering media by ghost imaging. The scattering effect on the qualities of the images obtained when the object is illuminated directly by the thermal light and ghost imaging is analyzed theoretically. Its potential applications are also discussed.

Improving resolution by means of ghost imaging

As one of important analysis tools, microscopes with high spatial resolution are indispensable for scientific research and medical diagnosis, and much attention is always focused on the improvement of resolution. Over the past decade, a novel technique called ghost imaging has been developed that may provide a new approach toward increasing the resolution of an imaging system. In this paper, we introduce this technique into microscopes for the first time and report a proof-of-principle experimental demonstration of a microscope scheme based on ghost imaging.

Sub-wavelength Coherent Imaging of a Pure-Phase Object with Thermal Light

We report, for the first time, the observation of sub-wavelength coherent image of a pure phase object with thermal light, which represents an accurate Fourier transform. We demonstrate that ghost-imaging scheme (GI) retrieves amplitude transmittance knowledge of objects rather than the transmitted intensities as the HBT-type imaging scheme does.

Transmission area and two-photon correlated imaging

The relationship between transmission area of an object imaged and the visibility of its image is investigated in a lensless system. We show that the changes of the visibility are quite different when the transmission area is varied by different manners. An increase of the transmission by adding the slit number leads to a decrease of the visibility. While, the change is adverse when the slit width is widened for a given distance between two slits.

Fourier Analysis of Ghost Imaging

Fourier analysis of ghost imaging (FAGI) is proposed in this paper to analyze the properties of ghost imaging with thermal light sources. This new theory is compatible with the general correlation theory of intensity fluctuation and could explain some amazed phenomena. Furthermore we design a series of experiments to verify the new theory and investigate the inherent properties of ghost imaging.

Lensless Fourier-Transform Ghost Imaging with Classical Incoherent Light

The Fourier-Transform ghost imaging of both amplitude-only and pure-phase objects was experimentally observed with classical incoherent light at Fresnel distance by a new lensless scheme. The experimental results are in good agreement with the standard Fourier-transform of the corresponding objects. This scheme provides a new route towards aberration-free diffraction-limited 3D images with classically incoherent thermal light, which have no resolution and depth-of-field limitations of lens-based tomographic systems.

Incoherent Coincidence Imaging and Its Applicability in X-ray Diffraction

Entangled-photon coincidence imaging is a method to nonlocally image an object by transmitting a pair of entangled photons through the object and a reference optical system, respectively. The image of the object can be extracted from the coincidence rate of these two photons. From a classical perspective, the image is proportional to the fourth-order correlation function of the wave field. Using classical statistical optics, we study a particular aspect of coincidence imaging with incoherent sources. As an application, we give a proposal to realize lensless Fourier-transform imaging, and discuss its applicability in x-ray diffraction.

Theoretical investigation of the quantum noise in ghost imaging

Ghost imaging is a method to nonlocally image an object by transmitting pairs of entangled photons through the object and a reference optical system respectively. We present a theoretical analysis of the quantum noise in this imaging technique. The dependence of the noise on the properties of the apertures in the imaging system are discussed and demonstrated with a numerical example. For a given source, the resolution and the signal-to-noise ratio cannot be improved at the same time .
