Topology hidden behind the breakdown of adiabaticity

For classical Hamiltonian systems, the adiabatic condition may fail at some critical points. However, the breakdown of the adiabatic condition does not always make the adiabatic evolution be destroyed. In this paper, we suggest a supplemental condition of the adiabatic evolution for the fixed points of classical Hamiltonian systems when the adiabatic condition breaks down at the critical points. As an example, we investigate the adiabatic evolution of the fixed points of a classical Hamiltonian system which has a number of applications.

Maximal violation of Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality for four-level systems

Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality for bipartite systems of 4-dimension is studied in detail by employing the unbiased eight-port beam splitters measurements. The uniform formulae for the maximum and minimum values of this inequality for such measurements are obtained. Based on these formulae, we show that an optimal non-maximally entangled state is about 6% more resistant to noise than the maximally entangled one. We also give the optimal state and the optimal angles which are important for experimental realization.

Landau-Zener tunneling with many-body quantum effects in crystals of molecular magnets

We present a quantum interpretation of the heights in hysteresis of $Fe_{8}$ molecule at lower temperatures by treating the crystal as an Ising spin system with the dipolar interaction between spins. Then we apply it to two limit cases : rapid and adiabatic regions. Our theoretical analysis is in agreement with the experimental observation in these regions, which indicates that the steps in hysteresis loops of magnetization of Fe$_{8}$ at lower temperatures show a pure quantum process.

Critical onset in coherent oscillations between two weakly coupled Bose-Einstein condensates

The Josephson effects in two weakly linked Bose-Einstein condensates have been studied recently. In this letter, we study the equations derived by Giovanazzi et. al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 4521 (2000)] focusing on the effects of the initial acceleration and the velocity of the barrier on the ``dc'' current. We find that the dc current has lifetime which critically depends on the moving velocity of the barrier. Moreover, the influence of the initial acceleration is also investigated and found to be crucial for the experimental realization of the effects.

The configuration of a topological current and physical structure: an application and paradigmatic evidence

In the $ϕ$-mapping theory, the topological current constructed by the order parameters can possess different inner structure. The difference in topology must correspond to the difference in physical structure. The transition between different structures happens at the bifurcation point of the topological current. In a self-interaction two-level system, the change of topological particles corresponds to change of energy levels.

Understanding Quantum Entanglement of Bipartite System Based on Bell Inequality

We present an alternative definition of quantum entanglement for bipartite system based on Bell inequality and operators' noncommutativity. A state is said to be entangled, if the maximum of CHSH expectation value $F_{\max}$ is obtain by noncommutative measures on each particle of the bipartite system; otherwise, the state is a disentangled state. A uniform measure quantifying the degree of entanglement for any state of the bipartite system is also proposed.

Correlated electron emission in laser-induced nonsequence double ionization of Helium

In this paper, we have investigated the correlated electron emission of the nonsequence double ionization (NSDI) in an intense linearly polarized field. The theoretical model we employed is the semiclassical rescattering model, the model atom we used is the helium. We find a significant correlation between magnitude and direction of the momentum of two emission electrons, and give a good explanation for this striking phenomenon by observing the classical collisional trajectories. We argue that this correlation phenomenon is universal in NSDI process, as revealed by the recent experiment on the argon.

Classical collisional trajectories as the source of strong-field double ionization of helium in the knee regime

In this paper, a quasistatic model is extended to describe the double ionization of Helium in intense linearly polarized field, yielding achieve an insight to the two-electron correlation effect in the ionization dynamics. Our numerical calculations reproduce the excessive double ionization and the photoelectron spectra observed experimentally both quantitatively and qualitatively. Moreover, it is shown that the classical collisional trajectories are the main source of the double ionization in the knee regime and responsible for the unusual angular distribution of the photoelectrons.

Theory of nonlinear Landau-Zener tunneling

A nonlinear Landau-Zener model was proposed recently to describe, among a number of applications, the nonadiabatic transition of a Bose-Einstein condensate between Bloch bands. Numerical analysis revealed a striking phenomenon that tunneling occurs even in the adiabatic limit as the nonlinear parameter $C$ is above a critical value equal to the gap $V$ of avoided crossing of the two levels. In this paper, we present analytical results that give quantitative account of the breakdown of adiabaticity by mapping this quantum nonlinear model into a classical Josephson Hamiltonian. In the critical region, we find a power-law scaling of the nonadiabatic transition probability as a function of $C/V-1$ and $α$, the crossing rate of the energy levels. In the subcritical regime, the transition probability still follows an exponential law but with the exponent changed by the nonlinear effect. For $C/V>>1$, we find a near unit probability for the transition between the adiabatic levels for all values of the crossing rate.

Plateau in Above-Threshold-Ionization Spectra and Chaotic Behavior in Rescattering Process

An improved quasistatic model is used to describe the ionization process of atoms in intense linearly polarized fields. Numerical calculations of Above-Threshold-Ionization (ATI) energy spectra and photoelectron angular distributions (PAD) of hydrogen atoms reveal clearly plateau and side lobe structures, which are in good agreement with recent ATI experiments. Our results show that, the existence of this plateau and side lobes is consequences of the classical kinematics of the electrons in combined atom and laser fields. Furthermore, we find that the onset of these unusual phenomena is related to the onset of the chaotic behavior in the system.

Chaotic Behavior of a One-dimensional Model Atom in an Intense Field

In this paper we describe the rescattering process in optical field ionization through a one-dimensional model, which improves the well-known quasistatic model by adding the smoothed Coulomb potential in its second step. The above-threshold ionization spectra and high-order harmonic generation are calculated from this model. They are qualitatively in agreement with the quantum results and experiments. In particular, we find that this model is characterized by chaotic scattering. Modern nonlinear theory is used to analyze this dynamical system. It is found that singular self-similar fractal structure exists in the phase-dependence energy spectra, and the unstable manifolds constitute the chaotic scattering pattern. Our results also demonstrate a close connection of irregular trajectories with the energy spectra and high-order harmonic generation. We conclude that the chaotic behavior plays an important role in this one-dimensional model of optical field ionization.
