Many-body reduced fidelity susceptibility in Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model

We study the reduced fidelity susceptibility $χ_{r}$ for an $M$-body subsystem of an $N$-body Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model with $τ=M/N$ fixed. The reduced fidelity susceptibility can be viewed as the response of subsystem to a certain parameter. In noncritical region, the inner correlation of the system is weak, and $χ_{r}$ behaves similar with the global fidelity susceptibility $χ_{g}$, the ratio $η=χ_{r}/χ_{g}$ depends on $τ$ but not $N$. However, at the critical point, the inner correlation tends to be divergent, then we find $χ_{r}$ approaches $χ_{g}$ with the increasing the $N$, and $η=1$ in the thermodynamic limit. The analytical predictions are perfect agreement with the numerical results.

Scaling dimension of fidelity susceptibility in quantum phase transitions

We analyze ground-state behaviors of fidelity susceptibility (FS) and show that the FS has its own distinct dimension instead of real system's dimension in general quantum phases. The scaling relation of the FS in quantum phase transitions (QPTs) is then established on more general grounds. Depending on whether the FS's dimensions of two neighboring quantum phases are the same or not, we are able to classify QPTs into two distinct types. For the latter type, the change in the FS's dimension is a characteristic that separates two phases. As a non-trivial application to the Kitaev honeycomb model, we find that the FS is proportional to $L^2\ln L$ in the gapless phase, while $L^2$ in the gapped phase. Therefore, the extra dimension of $\ln L$ can be used as a characteristic of the gapless phase.

Super Mario's prison break -- a proposal of object-intelligent-feedback-based classical Zeno and anti-Zeno effects

Super Mario is imprisoned by a demon in a finite potential well. He can escape from the well with the help of a flight of magic stairs floating in the space. However, the hateful demon may occasionally check his status. At that time, he has to make a judgement of either jumping to the inside ground immediately in order to avoid the discovery of his escape intention, or speeding up his escape process. Therefore, if the demon checks him too frequently such that there is no probability for him to reach the top of the barrier, he will be always inside the well, then a classical Zeno effect occurs. On the other hand, if the time interval between two subsequent checks is large enough such that he has a higher probability of being beyond the demon's controllable range already, then the demon's check actually speeds up his escape and a classical anti-Zeno effect takes place.

Fidelity susceptibility and quantum adiabatic condition in thermodynamic limits

In this work, we examine the validity of quantum adiabatic theorem in thermodynamic systems. For a $d$-dimensional quantum many-body system, we show that the duration time $τ_0$ required by its ground-state adiabatic process does not depend on the microscopic details, but the scaling dimension of the fidelity susceptibility $d_a$. Our result, therefore, provides a quantitative time scale of the quantum adiabatic theorem in thermodynamic systems. The quantum adiabatic theorem might be violated in case that the scaling dimension of the fidelity susceptibility is larger than the system's real dimension ($d_a>d$).

Detect genuine multipartite entanglement in the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model

Recently Seevinck and Uffink argued that genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) had not been established in the experiments designed to confirm GME. In this paper, we use the Bell-type inequalities introduced by Seevinck and Svetlichny [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{89}, 060401 (2002)] to investigate the GME problem in the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model. We show explicitly that the ground states of this model violate the inequality when the external transverse magnetic field is weak, which indicate that the ground states in this model with weak magnetic field are fully entangled. Since this model can be simulated with nuclear magnetic resonance, our results provide a fresh approach to experimental test of GME.

Fidelity and Fidelity Susceptibility of Pulses in Dispersive Media

Motivated by the growing importance of the fidelity and fidelity susceptibility (FS) in quantum critical phenomena, we use these concepts to describe the pulse propagation inside the dispersive media. It is found that there is a dramatic change in the fidelity and the FS of the pulse at a critical propagation distance inside a dispersive medium, and whether such a dramatic change for a light pulse occurs or not strongly depends on both the dispersive strength of the media and the pulse property. We study in detail about the changes of the fidelity and the FS for both a smooth and a truncated Gaussian pulse through the abnormal and normal dispersive media, where the group velocities are well defined. Our results show that both the fidelity and the FS could be very useful to determine whether the pulse is completely distorted or not at the critical distance, therefore it would be very helpful to find the maximal effective propagation region of the pulse's group velocity, in terms of the changes of the pulse's fidelity and FS.

High-order fidelity and quantum phase transition for the Heisenberg chain with next-nearest-neighbor interaction

In this article, we study the high order term of the fidelity of the Heisenberg chain with next-nearest-neighbor interaction and analyze its connection with quantum phase transition of Beresinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless type happened in the system. We calculate the fidelity susceptibility of the system and find that although the phase transition point can't be well characterized by the fidelity susceptibility, it can be effectively picked out by the higher order of the ground-state fidelity for finite-size systems.

Spin and mass imbalance in a mixture of two species of fermionic atoms in a 1D optical lattice

In this paper, we study the role of both "spin"(species) and mass imbalance in a mixture of two species of fermionic atoms with attractive interaction in an one-dimensional optical lattice. Using the bosonization approach, quantum phase transitions between a liquid phase and phase separated states are studied under various conditions of interaction, spin imbalance, and mass imbalance. We find that, in the phase-separated region, there exists two kinds of phase separation and a special quantum phase transition might exist between them in the large $U$ limit. On the other hand, the singlet superconducting correlation dominates in the liquid phase. The pairing behavior has been also demonstrated that there is oscillating behavior in real space. We find both the spin and mass imbalance are in favor of the formation of Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state.

Fidelity approach to quantum phase transitions

We review briefly the quantum fidelity approach to quantum phase transitions in a pedagogical manner. We try to relate all established but scattered results on the leading term of the fidelity into a systematic theoretical framework, which might provide an alternative paradigm for understanding quantum critical phenomena. The definition of the fidelity and the scaling behavior of its leading term, as well as their explicit applications to the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model and the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model, are introduced at the graduate-student level. In addition, we survey also other types of fidelity approach, such as the fidelity per site, reduced fidelity, thermal-state fidelity, operator fidelity, etc; as well as relevant works on the fidelity approach to quantum phase transitions occurring in various many-body systems.

Density-functional fidelity approach to quantum phase transitions

We propose a new approach to quantum phase transitions in terms of the density-functional fidelity, which measures the similarity between density distributions of two ground states in parameter space. The key feature of the approach, as we will show, is that the density-functional fidelity can be measured easily in experiments. Both the validity and versatility of the approach are checked by the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model and the one-dimensional Hubbard model.

Exact results of two-component Fermi gas in a hard wall trap

We investigate the ground state properties of a one-dimensional two-component ultra-cold Fermi gas in an infinite potential well. Exact Bethe ansatz solution is used to calculate the many-body wave function of the system. Then we evaluate the single-particle reduced density matrix and two-particle density density correlations of the system for different interaction strengths. We find that the momentum density distributions of the strongly interacting two-component Fermi gas is distinct from that of free spinless Fermi gas although their position density distributions are similar. This interacting system may be experimentally accessible using ultra-cold atoms.

Constrain on possible pairing symmetry in a two-orbital model of FeAs-based superconductors

In this work, we establish a few exact identities through commutation of intra-orbital and inter-orbital on-site pairings with a two-orbital model describing newly discovered FeAs-based superconductors. Applying the conclusion drawn from rigorous relation and physical interpretation, we give constraints on the possible symmetries of the superconducting pairing of the model. Hence the favorable pairings in newly discovered high-temperature oxypnictide superconductors are proposed.

Competitions of magnetism and superconductivity in FeAs-based materials

Using the numerical unrestricted Hartree-Fock approach, we study the ground state of a two-orbital model describing newly discovered FeAs-based superconductors. We observe the competition of a $(0, π)$ mode spin-density wave and the superconductivity as the doping concentration changes. There might be a small region in the electron-doping side where the magnetism and superconductivity coexist. The superconducting pairing is found to be spin singlet, orbital even, and mixed s$_{xy}$ + d$_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$ wave (even parity).

Fidelity susceptibility and long-range correlation in the Kitaev honeycomb model

We study exactly both the ground-state fidelity susceptibility and bond-bond correlation function in the Kitaev honeycomb model. Our results show that the fidelity susceptibility can be used to identify the topological phase transition from a gapped A phase with Abelian anyon excitations to a gapless B phase with non-Abelian anyon excitations. We also find that the bond-bond correlation function decays exponentially in the gapped phase, but algebraically in the gapless phase. For the former case, the correlation length is found to be $1/ξ=2\sinh^{-1}[\sqrt{2J_z -1}/(1-J_z)]$, which diverges around the critical point $J_z=(1/2)^+$.

Quantum criticality of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Model in terms of fidelity susceptibility

We study the critical properties of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Model in terms of the fidelity susceptibility. By using the Holstein-Primakoff transformation, we obtain explicitly the critical exponent of the fidelity susceptibility around the second-order quantum phase transition point. Our results provide a rare analytical case for the fidelity susceptibility in describing the universality class in quantum critical behavior. The different critical exponents in two phases are non-trivial results, indicating the fidelity susceptibility is not always extensive.

Multiband effects on the conductivity for a multiband Hubbard model

The newly discovered iron-based superconductors have attracted lots of interests, and the corresponding theoretical studies suggest that the system should have six bands. In this paper, we study the multiband effects on the conductivity based on the exact solutions of one-dimensional two-band Hubbard model. We find that the orbital degree of freedom might enhance the critical value $U_c$ of on-site interaction of the transition from a metal to an insulator. This observation is helpful to understand why undoped High-$T_c$ superconductors are usually insulators, while recently discovered iron-based superconductors are metal. Our results imply that the orbital degree of freedom in the latter cases might play an essential role.

Partial-state fidelity and quantum phase transitions induced by continuous level crossing

The global-state fidelity cannot characterize those quantum phase transitions (QPTs) induced by continuous level crossing due to its collapse around each crossing point. In this paper, we take the isotropic Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model and the antiferromagnetic one-dimensional Heisenberg model as examples to show that the partial-state fidelity can signal such level-crossing QPTs. Extending to the thermodynamic limit we introduce the partial-state fidelity susceptibility and study its scaling behavior. The maximum of the partial-state fidelity susceptibility goes like $N$ for the LMG model and $N^3$ for the Heisenberg model.

Fidelity and Quantum phase transition for the Heisenberg chain with the next-nearest-neighbor interaction

In this paper, we investigate the fidelity for the Heisenberg chain with the next-nearest-neighbor interaction (or the $J_1-J_2$ model) and analyze its connections with quantum phase transition. We compute the fidelity between the ground states and find that the phase transition point of the $J_1-J_2$ model can not be well characterized by the ground state fidelity for finite-size systems. Instead, we introduce and calculate the fidelity between the first excited states. Our results show that the quantum transition can be well characterized by the fidelity of the first excited state even for a small-size system.
