Intermediate Jacobian and Some Arithmetic Properties of Kummer-surface-type CY 3-folds

In this article, we examine the arithmetic aspect of the Kummer-surface-type CY 3-folds $\hat{T/G}$, characterized by the crepant resolution of 3-torus-orbifold $T/G$ with only isolated singularities. Up to isomorphisms, there are only two such space $\hat{T/G}$ with $|G|=3, 7$, and both $T$ carrying the structure of triple-product structure of a CM elliptic curve. The (Griffiths) intermediate Jacobians of these $\hat{T/G}$ are identified explicitly as the corresponding elliptic curve appeared in the structure of $T$. We further provide the $\QZ$-structure of $\hat{T/G}$ and verify their modularity property.

On Branching Indices of Affine A-D-E Diagrams : A Geometrical Characterization by Kleinian Singularities

The exceptional configuration of the minimal resolution $\hat{S}_G $ of a Kleinian quotient surface $S_G (:= \CZ^2/G)$ is depicted by a $A$-$D$-$E$ Coxeter-Dynkin diagram. In this article, we show that branching indices of the affine $A$-$D$-$E$ diagram is geometrically characterized by a certain special function $F$ of $S_G$ as the multiplicities of its divisor components in $\hat{S}_G$, a version parallel to the elliptic fibration near certain types of simple singular fibers in Kodaira's elliptic surface theory. We further obtain the uniqueness property of the function $F$ (modular local units) among all local functions in $S_G$ near the singular point whose divisors in $\hat{S}_G $ display the affine $A$-$D$-$E$ diagram configuration.

Rational Curves in Rigid Calabi-Yau Three-folds

We determine all the Kummer-surface-type Calabi-Yau (CY) 3-folds, i.e., those $\hat{T/G}$ which are resolutions of 3-torus-orbifolds $T/G$ with only isolated singularities. There are only two such CY spaces: one with $G= \ZZ_3$ and $T$ being the triple-product of 1-torus carrying an order 3 automorphism, the other with $G= \ZZ_7$ and $T$ being the Jacobian of Klein quartic curve. These CY 3-folds $\hat{T/G}$ are all rigid, hence no complex structure deformation for each of these two varieties. We further investigate problems of $\PZ^1$-curves $C$ in $\hat{T/G}$ not contained in exceptional divisors, by considering the counting number $d$ of elements in $C$ meeting exceptional divisors in a certain manner. We have obtained the constraint of $d$. With the smallest number $d$, the complete solution of $C$ in $\hat{T/G}$ is obtained for both cases. In the case $G=\ZZ_3$, we have derived an effective method of constructing $C$ in $\hat{T/G}$, and obtained the explicit forms of rational curves for some other $d$ by this procedure.

Crepant Resolutions of C^n/A_1(n) and Flops of n-Folds for n = 4,5

In this article, we determine the explicit toric variety structure of $\hl^{A_1(n)}(\CZ^n)$ for $n=4,5$, where $A_1(n)$ is the special diagonal group of all order 2 elements. Through the toric data of $\hl^{A_1(n)}(\CZ^n)$, we obtain certain toric crepant resolutions of $\CZ^n/A_1(n)$, and the different crepant resolutions are connected by flops of $n$-folds for $n=4,5$.

Quantum Reduction for Affine Superalgebras

We extend the homological method of quantization of generalized Drinfeld--Sokolov reductions to affine superalgebras. This leads, in particular, to a unified representation theory of superconformal algebras.

Baxter's T-Q Relation and Bethe Ansatz of Discrete Quantum Pendulum and Sine-Gordon Model

Using the Baxter's T-Q relation derived from the transfer matrix technique, we consider the diagonalization problem of discrete quantum pendulum and discrete quantum sine-Gordon Hamiltonian from the algebraic geometry aspect. For a finite chain system of the size L, when the spectral curve degenerates into rational curves, we have reduced Baxter's T-Q relation into a polynomial equation; the connection of T-Q polynomial equation with the algebraic Bethe Ansatz is clearly established . In particular, for L=4 it is the case of rational spectral curves for the discrete quantum pendulum and discrete sine-Gordon model. To these Baxter's T-Q polynomial equations, we have obtained the complete and explicit solutions with a detailed understanding of their quantitative and qualitative structure. In general the model possesses a spectral curve with a generic parameter. We have conducted certain qualitative study on the algebraic geometry of this high-genus Riemann surface incorporating Baxter's T-Q relation.

Algebraic Geometry in Discrete Quantum Integrable Model and Baxter's T-Q Relation

We study the diagonalization problem of certain discrete quantum integrable models by the method of Baxter's T-Q relation from the algebraic geometry aspect. Among those the Hofstadter type model (with the rational magnetic flux), discrete quantum pendulum and discrete sine-Gordon model are our main concern in this report. By the quantum inverse scattering method, the Baxter's T-Q relation is formulated on the associated spectral curve, a high genus Riemann surface in general, arisen from the study of the spectrum problem of the system. In the case of degenerated spectral curve where the spectral variables lie on rational curves, we obtain the complete and explicit solution of the T-Q polynomial equation associated to the model, and the intimate relation between the Baxter's T-Q relation and algebraic Bethe Ansatz is clearly revealed. The algebraic geometry of a general spectral curve attached to the model and certain qualitative properties of solutions of the Baxter's T-Q relation are discussed incorporating the physical consideration.

Algebraic Geometry Approach to the Bethe Equation for Hofstadter Type Models

We study the diagonalization problem of certain Hofstadter-type models through the algebraic Bethe ansatz equation by the algebraic geometry method. When the spectral variables lie on a rational curve, we obtain the complete and explicit solutions for models with the rational magnetic flux, and discuss the Bethe equation of their thermodynamic flux limit. The algebraic geometry properties of the Bethe equation on high genus algebraic curves are investigated in cooperation

Algebraic Geometry and Hofstadter Type Model

In this report, we study the algebraic geometry aspect of Hofstadter type models through the algebraic Bethe equation. In the diagonalization problem of certain Hofstadter type Hamiltonians, the Bethe equation is constructed by using the Baxter vectors on a high genus spectral curve. When the spectral variables lie on rational curves, we obtain the complete and explicit solutions of the polynomial Bethe equation; the relation with the Bethe ansatz of polynomial roots is discussed. Certain algebraic geometry properties of Bethe equation on the high genus algebraic curves are discussed in cooperation with the consideration of the physical model.

Algebraic Geometry and Physics

This article is an interdisciplinary review and an on-going progress report over the last few years made by myself and collaborators in certain fundamental subjects on two major theoretic branches in mathematics and theoretical physics: algebraic geometry and quantum physics. I shall take a practical approach, concentrating more on explicit examples rather than formal developments. Topics covered are divided in three sections: (I) Algebraic geometry on two-dimensional exactly solvable statistical lattice models and its related Hamiltonians: I will report results on the algebraic geometry of rapidity curves appeared in the chiral Potts model, and the algebraic Bethe Ansatz equation in connection with quantum inverse scattering method for the related one-dimensional Hamiltonion chain, e.g., XXZ, Hofstadter type Hamiltonian. (II) Infinite symmetry algebras arising from quantum spin chain and conformal field theory: I will explain certain progress made on Onsager algebra, the relation with the superintegrable chiral Potts quantum chain and problems on its spectrum. In conformal field theory, mathematical aspects of characters of N=2 superconformal algebra are discussed, especially on the modular invariant property connected to the theory. (III). Algebraic geometry problems on orbifolds stemming from string theory: I will report recent progress on crepant resolutions of quotient singularity of dimension greater than or equal to three. The direction of present-day research of engaging finite group representations in the geometry of orbifolds is briefly reviewed, and the mathematical aspect of various formulas on the topology of string vacuum will be discussed.

Orbifolds and Finite Group Representations

We present our recent understanding on resolutions of Gorenstein orbifolds, which involves the finite group representation theory. We shall concern only the quotient singularity of hypersurface type. The abelian group $A_r(n)$ for $A$-type hypersurface quotient singularity of dimension $n$ is introduced. For $n=4$, the structure of Hilbert scheme of group orbits and crepant resolutions of $A_r(4)$-singularity are obtained. The flop procedure of 4-folds is explicitly constructed through the process.

The superintegrable chiral Potts quantum chain and generalized Chebyshev polynomials

Finite-dimensional representations of Onsager's algebra are characterized by the zeros of truncation polynomials. The Z_N-chiral Potts quantum chain hamiltonians (of which the Ising chain hamiltonian is the N=2 case) are the main known interesting representations of Onsager's algebra and the corresponding polynomials have been found by Baxter and Albertini, McCoy and Perk in 1987-89 considering the Yang-Baxter-integrable 2-dimensional chiral Potts model. We study the mathematical nature of these polynomials. We find that for N>2 and fixed charge Q these don't form classical orthogonal sets because their pure recursion relations have at least N+1-terms. However, several basic properties are very similar to those required for orthogonal polynomials. The N+1-term recursions are of the simplest type: like for the Chebyshev polynomials the coefficients are independent of the degree. We find a remarkable partial orthogonality, for N=3,5 with respect to Jacobi-, and for N=4,6 with respect to Chebyshev weight functions. The separation properties of the zeros known from orthogonal polynomials are violated only by the extreme zero at one end of the interval.

Gauge Symmetry and Integrable Models

We establish the isomorphism between a nonlinear $σ$-model and the abelian gauge theory on an arbitrary curved background, which allows us to derive integrable models and the corresponding Lax representations from gauge theoretical point of view. In our approach the spectral parameter is related to the global degree of freedom associated with the conformal or Galileo transformations of the spacetime. The B$\ddot{\rm a}$cklund transformations are derived from Chern-Simons theory where the spectral parameter is defined in terms of the extract compactified space dimension coordinate.

Mirror symmetry of elliptic curves and Ising model

We study the differential equations governing mirror symmetry of elliptic curves, and obtain a characterization of the ODEs which give rise to the integral ${\bf q}$-expansion of mirror maps. Through theta function representation of the defining equation, we express the mirror correspondence in terms of theta constants. By investigating the elliptic curves in $X_9$-family, the identification of the Landau-Ginzburg potential with the spectral curve of Ising model is obtained. Through the Jacobi elliptic function parametrization of Boltzmann weights in the statistical model, an exact Jacobi form-like formula of mirror map is described .
