Quench induced collective excitations: from breathing to acoustic modes

In trapped Bose-Einstein condensates, interaction quenches which are abrupt changes of the interaction strength typically implemented via Feshbach tuning, are a practical and widely used protocol to address far-from-equilibrium collective modes. Using both numerical Gross Pitaevskii and analytical schemes we study these interaction-quench-induced collective modes in a harmonically trapped two-dimensional Bose--Einstein condensate contrasting the behavior found at low and high energies. In the low-lying regime, we characterize realistic circumstances in which there is a breakdown of the expected scale invariance so that the collective excitations follow hydrodynamic theory instead of the predictions given by SO(2,1) conformal symmetry. In the high energy regime, we focus on important trap effects associated with acoustic oscillations which have been of interest experimentally. This comprehensive analysis of the collective excitations in trapped two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates is experimentally accessible. Through their frequencies and damping, this reflects an important built-in spectroscopy of such many-body states.

Properties of 4D spinfoam quantum geometry: Results from next-to-leading order spinfoam large-$j$ asymptotics of 1-5 Pachner move

This paper proposes several criteria to probe the non-trivialities of 4-dimensional geometry that impact spinfoam amplitude. These criteria include the standard deviation of 4-volumes of the constituting 4-simplices, the smallest 4-simplex volume, and whether the directions of tetrahedron 4-normals are close to the null direction. By numerically computing and analyzing the spinfoam amplitudes up to the next-to-leading order of 1-5 Pachner move samples with the same boundary 4-simplex, we reveal the relationship between 4-dimensional geometry and spinfoam amplitudes, as large standard deviation of 4-simplex volumes and small 4-simplex volume can result in both leading order and next-to-leading order amplitudes being large. Furthermore, the numerical result indicates that the distance from tetrahedron 4-normals to the null direction has a greater impact on increasing the next-to-leading order amplitude than on the leading order amplitude, making it primarily a quantum effect.

First-Order Quantum Correction in Coherent State Expectation Value of Loop-Quantum-Gravity Hamiltonian: Overview and Results

Given the Loop-Quantum-Gravity (LQG) non-graph-changing Hamiltonian $\widehat{H[N]}$, the coherent state expectation value $\langle\widehat{H[N]}\rangle$ admits an semiclassical expansion in $\ell^2_{\rm p}$. In this paper, we compute explicitly the expansion of $\langle\widehat{H[N]}\rangle$ on the cubic graph to the linear order in $\ell^2_{\rm p}$, when the coherent state is peaked at the homogeneous and isotropic data of cosmology. In our computation, a powerful algorithm is developed to overcome the complexity in computing $\langle \widehat{H[N]} \rangle$. In particular, some key innovations in our algorithm substantially reduce the computational complexity in the Lorentzian part of $\langle\widehat{H[N]}\rangle$. Moreover, the algorithm developed in the present work makes it possible to compute the expectation value of arbitrary monomial of holonomies and fluxes on one edge up to arbitrary order of $\ell_{\rm p}^2$.

First-Order Quantum Correction in Coherent State Expectation Value of Loop-Quantum-Gravity Hamiltonian

Given the non-graph-changing Hamiltonian $\widehat{H[N]}$ in Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG), $\langle\widehat{H[N]}\rangle$, the coherent state expectation value of $\widehat{H[N]}$, admits an semiclassical expansion in $\ell^2_{\rm p}$. In this paper, as presenting the detailed derivations of our previous work arXiv:2012.14242, we explicitly compute the expansion of $\langle\widehat{H[N]}\rangle$ to the linear order in $\ell^2_{\rm p}$ on the cubic graph with respect to the coherent state peaked at the homogeneous and isotropic data of cosmology. In our computation, a powerful algorithm is developed, supported by rigorous proofs and several theorems, to overcome the complexity in the computation of $\langle \widehat{H[N]} \rangle$. Particularly, some key innovations in our algorithm substantially reduce the complexity in computing the Lorentzian part of $\langle\widehat{H[N]}\rangle$. Additionally, some quantum correction effects resulting from $\langle\widehat{H[N]}\rangle$ in cosmology are discussed at the end of this paper.

Multi-spatial-mode effects in squeezed-light-enhanced interferometric gravitational wave detectors

Proposed near-future upgrades of the current advanced interferometric gravitational wave detectors include the usage of frequency dependent squeezed light to reduce the current sensitivity-limiting quantum noise. We quantify and describe the degradation effects that spatial mode-mismatches between optical resonators have on the squeezed field. These mode-mismatches can to first order be described by scattering of light into second-order Gaussian modes. As a demonstration of principle, we also show that squeezing the second-order Hermite-Gaussian modes $\mathrm{HG}_{02}$ and $\mathrm{HG}_{20}$, in addition to the fundamental mode, has the potential to increase the robustness to spatial mode-mismatches. This scheme, however, requires independently optimized squeeze angles for each squeezed spatial mode, which would be challenging to realise in practise.
