Geometric properties of jet schemes

This paper shows how properties of jet schemes relate to those of the singularity on the base scheme. We will see that the jet scheme's properties of being Q-factorial, Q-Gorenstein, canonical, terminal and so on are inherited by the base scheme.

Isomorphisms of jet schemes

If two schemes are isomorphic, then their $m$-jet schemes are isomorphic for all $m$. In this paper we consider the converse problem. We prove that if an isomorphism of the $m$-jet schemes is induced from a morphism of the base schemes, then the morphism of the base schemes is an isomorphism. But we also prove that just the existence of isomorphisms between $m$-jet schemes does not yield the existence of an isomorphism between the base schemes.

Smoothness and jet schemes

This paper shows some criteria for a scheme of finite type over an algebraically closed field to be non-singular in terms of jet schemes. For the base field of characteristic zero, the scheme is non-singular if and only if one of the truncation morphisms of its jet schemes is flat. For the positive characteristic case, we obtain a similar characterization under the reducedness condition on the scheme. We also obtain by a simple discussion that the scheme is non-singular if and only if one of its jet schemes is non-singular.

Maximal divisorial sets in arc spaces

In this paper we introduce a maximal divisorial set in the arc space of a variety. The generalized Nash problem is reduced to a translation problem of the inclusion of two maximal divisorial sets. We study this problem and show a counter example to the most natural expectation even for a non-singular variety.

The Local Nash problem on arc families of singularities

This paper shows the affirmative answer to the local Nash problem for a toric singularity and analytically pretoric singularity. As a corollary we obtain the affirmative answer to the local Nash problem for a quasi-ordinary singularity.

Arcs, valuations and the Nash map

This paper gives a map from the set of families of arcs on a variety to the set of valuations on the rational function field of the variety We characterize a family of arcs which corresponds to a divisorial valuation by this map. We can see that both the Nash map and a certain McKay correspondence are the restrictions of this map. This paper also gives the affirmative answer to the Nash problem for a non-normal variety in a certain category. As a corollary, we get the affirmative answer for a non-normal toric variety.

The arc space of a toric variety

The Nash problem on arc families is affirmatively answered for a toric variety by Ishii and Kollar's paper which also shows the negative answer for general case. The Nash problem is one of questions about the relation between arc families and valuations. In this paper, the relation is described clearly for a toric variety. The arc space of a toric variety admits an action of the group scheme determined by the torus. Each orbit on the arc space corresponds to a lattice point in the cone and therefore corresponds to a toric valuation. The dominant relation among the orbits is described in terms of the lattice points. As a corollary we obtain the answer to the embedded version of the Nash problem for an invariant ideal on a toric variety.

The Nash problem on arc families of singularities

Nash proved that every irreducible component of the space of arcs through a singularity corresponds to an exceptional divisor that occurs on every resolution. He asked if the converse also holds: does every such exceptional divisor correspond to an arc family? We prove that the converse holds for toric singularities but fails in general.

Hypersurface exceptional singularities

This paper studies hypersurface exceptional singularities in $\mathbb C^n$ defined by non-degenerate function. For each canonical hypersurface singularity, there exists a weighted homogeneous singularity such that the former is exceptional if and only if the latter is exceptional. So we study the weighted homogeneous case and prove that the number of weights of weighted homogeneous exceptional singularities are finite. Then we determine all exceptional singularities of the Brieskorn type of dimension 3.

On $-K^2$ for normal surface singularities

In this paper we show the lower bound of the set of non-zero $-K^2$ for normal surface singularities establishing that this set has no accumulation points from above. We also prove that every accumulation point from below is a rational number and every positive integer is an accumulation point. Every rational number can be an accumulation point modulo $\bZ$. We determine all accumulation points in $[0, 1]$. If we fix the value $-K^2$, then the values of $p_g$, $p_a$, mult, embdim and the numerical indices are bounded, while the numbers of the exceptional curves are not bounded.

Minimal model theorem for toric divisors

Minimal model conjecture for a proper variety $X$ is that if $κ(X)\geq 0$, then $X$ has a minimal model with the abundance and if $κ=-\infty$, then $X$ is birationally equivalent to a variety $Y$ which has a fibration $Y \to Z$ with $-K_Y$ relatively ample. In this paper, we prove this conjecture for a $\D$-regular divisor on a proper toric variety by means of successive contractions of extremal rays and flips of ambient toric variety. Furthermore, for such a divisor $X$ with $κ(X)\geq 0$ we construct a projective minimal model with the abundance in a different way; by means of "puffing up" of the polytope, which gives an algorithm of a construction of a minimal model.

The canonical modifications by weighted blow-ups

In this paper we give a criterion for an isolated, hypersurface singularity of dimension $n\ (\geq 2)$ to have the canonical modification by means of a suitable weighted blow-up. Then we give a counter example to the following conjecture by Reid-Watanabe: For a 3-dimensional, isolated, non-canonical, log-canonical singularity $(X,x)$ of embedded dimension 4, there exists an embedding $(X,x)\subset ({\bC}^4, 0)$ and a weight ${\bw}=(w_0,w_1,\ldots ,w_n)$, such that the ${\bw}$-blow-up gives the canonical modification of $(X,x)$.
