One-loop contributions of charginos and neutralinos to W+ W- production in e+ e- collisions

We study one-loop effects of charginos and neutralinos on the helicity amplitudes for the process $e^+e^-\to W^+W^-$ in the MSSM. The calculation is tested by using two methods. First, the sum rules among form factors which result from BRS invariance. Second, the decoupling property in the large mass limit is used to test the overall normalization of the amplitudes. The one-loop contribution to the helicity amplitudes is shown as a function of $μ$ Higgs parameter and $\sqrt{s}$. We also study the effects of the CP-violating phase.

Associated Production of CP-odd and Charged Higgs Bosons at Hadron Colliders

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, the masses of the charged Higgs boson ($H^\pm$) and the CP-odd scalar ($A$) are related by $M_{H^+}^2=M_A^2+m_W^2$ at the Born level. Because the coupling of $W^-$-$A$-$H^+$ is fixed by gauge interaction, the Born level production rate of $q \bar q' \to W^{\pm \ast} \to A H^\pm$ depends only on one supersymmetry parameter -- the mass ($M_A^{}$) of $A$. We examine the sensitivity of the LHC to this signal event in the $A(\ra b {\bar b})H^+(\ra τ^+ ν_τ)$ and $A(\ra b {\bar b})H^+(\ra t {\bar b})$ decay channels. We illustrate how to test the mass relation between $A$ and $H^+$ in case that the signal is found. If the signal is not found, the product of the decay branching ratios of $A$ and $H^\pm$ predicted by the MSSM is bounded from above as a function of $M_A$.

One-loop contributions of charginos and neutralinos to W-pair production in E+ E- collisions

We study the one-loop effects of charginos and neutralinos on the helicity amplitudes for $\eeww$ in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The calculation is tested by using two methods. First, the sum rule for the form factors between $\eeww$ and the process where the external $W^\pm$ bosons are replaced by the corresponding Goldstone bosons $ω^\pm$ is employed to test the analytic expression and the accuracy of the numerical program. Second, the decoupling property in the large mass limit is used to test the overall normalization of the amplitudes. These two tests are most effectively carried out when the amplitudes are expanded in terms of the modified minimal subtraction ($\bar{\rm MS}$) couplings of the standard model. The resulting perturbation expansion is valid at collider energies below and around the threshold of the light supersymmetric particles. We find that the corrections to the cross section of the longitudinally polarized $W$-pair production can be as large as -1.4% at the threshold of the light chargino-pair production for large scattering angles. We also study the effects of the CP-violating phase in the chargino and neutralino sectors on the helicity amplitudes. We find that the resulting CP-violating asymmetries can be at most 0.1%.

Single Charged Higgs Boson Production in Polarized Photon Collision and the Probe of New Physics

We study single charged Higgs boson production in photon-photon collision as a probe of the new dynamics of Higgs interactions. This is particularly important when the mass ($M_{H^\pm}$) of charged Higgs bosons ($H^{\pm}$) is relatively heavy and above the kinematic limit of the pair production ($M_{H^\pm} > \sqrt{s}/2$). We analyze the cross sections of single charged Higgs boson production from the photon-photon fusion processes, $γγ\to τ\bar νH^+$ and $γγ\to b \bar c H^+$, as motivated by the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the dynamical Topcolor model. We find that the cross sections at such a $γγ$ collider can be sufficiently large even for $M_{H^\pm} > \sqrt{s}/2$, and is typically one to two orders of magnitude higher than that at its parent $e^-e^+$ collider. We further demonstrate that the polarized photon beams can provide an important means to determine the chirality structure of Higgs Yukawa interactions with the fermions.

New Physics Effect on the Higgs Self-Coupling

One-loop corrections to the self-coupling constant of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson are studied in the two Higgs doublet model. After renormalization is performed, quartic contributions of heavy particle's mass can appear in the effective coupling. We find that these non-decoupling effects can yield ${\cal O}(100)$ % deviations from the Standard Model prediction, even when all the other couplings of the lightest Higgs boson to gauge bosons and fermions are in good agreement with the Standard Model.

New Physics Search via the Higgs Self-Coupling

We discuss quantum corrections of new physics to the triple coupling of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson in the Two Higgs Doublet Model (THDM) and also in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In the THDM, quartic contributions of the mass of heavy particles in the loop can appear, which are not absorbed by renormalization of the Higgs boson mass. Such non-decoupling effects on the self-coupling can give corrections of ${\cal O}(100%)$, even when all measured Higgs couplings with gauge bosons and fermions are consistent with the Standard Model prediction. In the MSSM, the loop-corrections decouple in such a scenario.

Determining the Chirality of Yukawa Couplings via Single Charged Higgs Boson Production in Polarized Photon Collision

When the charged Higgs boson is too heavy to be produced in pairs, the predominant production mechanism at Linear Colliders is via the single charged Higgs boson production processes, such as $e^-e^+ \to b \bar c H^+, τ\bar νH^+$ and $γγ\to b \bar c H^+, τ\bar νH^+$. We show that the yield of a heavy charged Higgs boson at a $γγ$ collider is typically one or two orders of magnitude larger than that at an $e^-e^+$ collider. Furthermore, a polarized $γγ$ collider can determine the chirality of the Yukawa couplings of fermions with charged Higgs boson via single charged Higgs boson production, and thus discriminate models of new physics.

Testing Supersymmetry in the Associated Production of CP-odd and Charged Higgs Bosons

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the masses of the charged Higgs boson ($H^\pm$) and the CP-odd scalar ($A$) are related by $M_{H^+}^2=M_A^2+m_W^2$. Furthermore, because the coupling of $W^-$-$A$-$H^+$ is fixed by gauge interaction, the tree level production rate of $q \bar q' \to W^{\pm \ast} \to A H^\pm$ depends only on one supersymmetry parameter --the mass ($M_A$) of $A$. We show that to a good approximation this conclusion also holds at the one-loop level. Consequently, this process can be used to distinguish MSSM from its alternatives (such as a general two-Higgs-doublet model) by verifying the above mass relation, and to test the prediction of the MSSM on the product of the decay branching ratios of $A$ and $H^\pm$ in terms of only one single parameter -- $M_A$.

Phenomenology of Higgs bosons in the Zee-Model

To generate small neutrino masses radiatively, the Zee-model introduces two Higgs doublets and one weak-singlet charged Higgs boson to its Higgs sector. From analyzing the renormalization group equations, we determine the possibile range of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson ($h$) mass and the Higgs boson self-couplings as a function of the cut-off scale beyond which either some of the coupling constants are strong enough to invalidate the perturbative analysis or the stability of the electroweak vacuum is no longer guaranteed. Using the results obtained from the above analysis, we find that the singlet charged Higgs boson can significantly modify the partial decay width of $h \to γγ$ via radiative corrections, and its collider phenomenology can also be drastically different from that of the charged Higgs bosons in the usual two-Higgs-doublet models.

Can the charged Higgs boson be discovered in $eγ$ collisions using the channel $e^-γ\toνH^-$?

We consider the single production of charged Higgs bosons $H^\pm$ of the two-Higgs-doublet model in $eγ$ collisions through the production subprocess $e^-γ\toνH^-$. As the production rate is governed by the size of the loop-induced $H^\pm W^\mpγ$ coupling, the cross section can only be substantial for smaller values of $\tanβ$, $\tanβ\lesssim1$, where the top-bottom loop contribution is enhanced. In this case, however, the natural width of the charged Higgs boson becomes large so that the Standard Model continuum background becomes important. We study the background subprocess $e^-γ\toν\bar t b$ including the interference with the signal, and find that in the region of charged Higgs mass that can be interesting, the signal is difficult to detect.

Single production of charged Higgs bosons at linear colliders

We discuss single charged Higgs boson production from $e^+e^-$ annihilation at next generation linear colliders. They can be important to study the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons, especially when charged Higgs bosons are too heavy to be produced by the pair production mechanism. Cross sections for various single production processes are evaluated at the leading order. Our analysis shows that in some parameter regions the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons can be explored even beyond the kinematic limit for pair production by using single production processes.

The MSSM prediction for W+/- H-/+ production by gluon fusion

We discuss the associated W+/- H-/+ production in p p collision for the Large Hadron Collider. A complete one-loop calculation of the loop-induced subprocess g g -> W+/- H-/+ is presented in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), and the possible enhancement of the hadronic cross section is investigated under the constraint from the squark direct-search results and the low-energy precision data. Because of the large destructive interplay in the quark-loop contributions between triangle-type and box-type diagrams, the squark-loop contributions turn out to be comparable with the quark-loop ones. In particular, the hadronic cross section via gluon fusion can be extensively enhanced by squark-pair threshold effects in the box-type diagrams, so that it can be as large as the hadronic cross section via the b b-bar -> W+/- H-/+ subprocess which appears at tree level.

Another Look at Charged Higgs Boson Production at LEP

The current atmospheric and solar neutrino experimental data favors the bi-maximal mixing solution of the Zee-type neutrino mass matrix in which neutrino masses are generated radiatively. This model requires the existence of a weak singlet charged Higgs boson. While low energy data are unlikely to further constrain the parameters of this model, the direct search of charged Higgs production at the CERN LEP experiments can provide useful information on this mechanism of neutrino mass generation by analyzing their data with electrons and/or muons (in contrast to taus or charms) in the final state with missing transverse energies. We also discuss the difference in the production rates of a weak singlet from a weak doublet charged Higgs boson pairs at LEP.

One-loop contributions of the super-partner particles to $e^-e^+ \to W^-W^+$ in the MSSM

One-loop contributions of super-partner particles to $W$-pair production at $e^+e^-$ collision are discussed in the MSSM. To obtain trustworthy results we test our calculation using three methods: (1) sum rules among form factors which result from the BRS invariance, (2) the decoupling theorem, (3) the high-energy stability. We examine the corrections taking into account constraints from the direct search experiments and the precision data. The results for the sfermion contributions are presented.

Possible enhancement of the $e^+ e^- \to H^\pm W^\mp$ cross section in the two-Higgs-doublet model

The production process of the charged Higgs-boson associated with a $W$ boson at electron-positron colliders is discussed in the two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) and in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The process is induced at one-loop level in these models. We examine how much the cross section can be enhanced by quark- and Higgs-loop effects. In the non-SUSY 2HDM, in addition to large top-bottom ($t$-$b$) loop effects for small $\tan β$ ($\ll \sqrt{m_t/m_b}$), the Higgs-loop diagrams can contribute to the cross section to some extent for moderate $\tan β$ values. For larger $\tan β$ ($\gg \sqrt{m_t/m_b}$), such enhancement by the Higgs non-decoupling effects is bounded by the requirement for validity of perturbation theory. In the MSSM with heavy super-partner particles, only the $t$-$b$ loops enhance the cross section while Higgs-loop effects are very small.

One-loop sfermion corrections to $e^-e^+ \to W^-W^+$ in the MSSM

We study one-loop effects of sfermions on helicity amplitudes for $\eeww$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The one-loop contributions are calculated in the $\bar{\rm MS}$ renormalization scheme. In order to verify the validity of the analytic calculation and the numerical program, the following tests are performed. (i) The BRS sum rules hold exactly among the analytic expressions of the form factors of the $\eeww$ amplitude and those of the amplitudes where the external $W^\pm$ bosons are replaced by the corresponding Goldstone bosons $χ^\pm$, hence they hold within the expected accuracy of the numerical program. (ii) The one-loop sfermion contribution to the amplitudes decouple in the heavy mass limit. This property is used to test the overall normalization of the amplitudes. In order to observe the analytically exact decoupling, the amplitudes are expanded by the $\bar{\rm MS}$ couplings of the Standard Model. (iii) The high-energy analytic formulas of the helicity amplitudes, which are verified by using the equivalence theorem analytically, are used for the numerical test of the high energy behavior of the amplitudes. We then investigate the magnitude of the one-loop effects on each helicity amplitude which may be measured by experiments at future linear colliders. Under the constraint from available precision data, the one-loop corrections to a few helicity amplitudes (for example, the longitudinal-$W$-pair production) can be at most from -0.8% to $+0.6$% in magnitude in the observables. The corrections in the helicity-summed cross sections are smaller, typically a few times $\pm 0.1$% at large scattering angles.

Mass bounds of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson in the two-Higgs-doublet model

The upper and the lower bounds of the lightest CP-even Higgs-boson mass ($m_h$) are discussed in the two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) with a softly-broken discrete symmetry. They are obtained as a function of a cut-off scale $Λ$ ($\leq 10^{19}$ GeV) by imposing the conditions in which the running coupling constants neither blow up nor fall down below $Λ$. In comparison with the standard model (SM), although the upper bound does not change very much, the lower bound is considerably reduced. In the decoupling regime where only one Higgs boson ($h$) becomes much lighter than the others, the lower bound is given, for example, by about 100 GeV for $Λ= 10^{19}$ GeV and $m_t = 175$ GeV, which is smaller by about 40 GeV than the corresponding lower bound in the SM. In generic cases, $m_h$ is no longer bounded from below by these conditions. If we consider the $b \to s γ$ constraint, small values of $m_h$ are excluded in Model II of the 2HDM.
