Prescribed Initial Behavior of $\mu(I^k)$

It is well known that for every graded ideal $I$, the numbers of minimal generators $\mu(I^k)$ of its powers of $I$ are eventually increasing. However, its initial behavior can be surprisingly flexible. We prove that any prescribed finite pattern of increases, decreases, and equalities can occur among the first differences $\mu(I^{k+1})-\mu(I^k)$ of a suitable monomial ideal $I$ in $K[x,y]$. This provides a broad positive answer to a previously posed sign-realization problem and unifies several known constructions exhibiting unusual behavior of $\mu(I^k)$. Moreover, as a consequence, analogous sign-realization results are obtained for the index of reducibility of powers of $\mathfrak m$-primary ideals in two-dimensional regular local rings.

The Non-Pure Dual Exchange Property in Low Dimensions

We investigate monomial ideals satisfying the non-pure dual exchange property, a notion introduced in connection with componentwise polymatroidal ideals. Our contributions are twofold. First, we show that in two variables, every integrally closed monomial ideal satisfies this property; as a consequence, we characterize polymatroidal ideals in two variables. Second, for strongly stable (Borel) ideals in three variables, we establish a practical criterion: it suffices to verify the defining condition only for the Borel generators, and this verification reduces to simple inequalities involving the degrees in the second and third variables.

Quasi-factorially closed subalgebras of Laurent polynomial rings

Let $R$ be a domain and $B=R[x_1^{\pm1},\ldots,x_n^{\pm1}]$ the Laurent polynomial ring over $R$. In this paper we study pre-factorially closed (pfc) and quasi-factorially closed (qfc) $R$-subalgebras of $B$, which generalize the notion of factorially closed subalgebras. We first establish a localization criterion for the qfc property. Using this criterion, we investigate monoid algebras $A=R[M]$ associated with submonoids $M\subset \mathbb{Z}^n$. We prove that $R[M]$ is qfc in $B$ if and only if the group generated by $M$ is a direct summand of $\mathbb{Z}^n$. This provides a complete characterization of the qfc property in terms of the lattice structure of the associated group. As a consequence, when $n=1$ and $M\subset\mathbb{N}$, the algebra $R[M]$ is qfc in $B$ precisely when $M$ is a numerical semigroup. For a general $R$-subalgebra $A\subset B$, we introduce an invariant $\mathrm{Gap}(A)$. We show that if $\mathrm{Gap}(A)$ is finite, then $A$ is qfc in $B$. Moreover, we clarify how the pfc and qfc conditions are related to other notions that naturally appear for subalgebras, such as retracts, being algebraically closed in $B$, and normality.

On Partial Trace Ideals

We investigate the notion of partial trace ideals, recently introduced by Maitra. We first establish several properties of partial trace ideals and give affirmative answers to questions posed by Maitra. We then study the invariant defined by the partial trace ideal of the canonical module, and obtain an upper bound that recovers one direction of a result of Kobayashi. Moreover, in the case of numerical semigroup rings generated by three elements, we provide an explicit formula for this invariant.

Modules of minimal multiplicity over one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings

We study finitely generated modules of minimal multiplicity, a notion introduced by Puthenpurakal that extends the classical concept of minimal multiplicity from rings to modules. Our main result characterizes when trace ideals or reflexive ideals yield modules of minimal multiplicity over one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings. As a consequence, we show that a one-dimensional non-Gorenstein reduced local ring with a canonical module has minimal multiplicity if and only if its canonical module has minimal multiplicity as a module. We also construct several examples and compare them with Burch and Ulrich modules, highlighting cases where minimal multiplicity coincides with the Burch or Ulrich property.

Canonical traces of graded fiber products: applications to disconnected Stanley--Reisner rings

Recent work by Miyashita and Varbaro classified the canonical traces of Stanley--Reisner rings that are Gorenstein on the punctured spectrum, under the Cohen--Macaulay assumption. The purpose of this paper is to generalize the result to the non--Cohen--Macaulay case. First, we establish an explicit formula for the canonical trace of graded fiber products of Noetherian rings and apply it to Stanley--Reisner rings of disconnected simplicial complexes. This allows us to reduce the problem to the case of connected simplicial complexes. In that case, we succeeded in giving a complete classification without assuming the Cohen--Macaulay property. Finally, we combine these results to obtain a classification for disconnected simplicial complexes, complementing the work of Miyashita and Varbaro.

Full-Trace Modules

Motivated by the definition of nearly Gorenstein rings, we introduce the notion of full-trace modules over commutative Noetherian local rings--namely, finitely generated modules whose trace equals the maximal ideal. We investigate the existence of such modules and prove that, over rings that are neither regular nor principal ideal rings, every positive syzygy module of the residue field is full-trace. Moreover, over Cohen-Macaulay rings, we study full-trace Ulrich modules--that is, maximally generated maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules that are full-trace. We establish the following characterization: a non-regular Cohen-Macaulay local ring has minimal multiplicity if and only if it admits a full-trace Ulrich module. Finally, for numerical semigroup rings with minimal multiplicity, we show that each full-trace Ulrich module decomposes as the direct sum of the maximal ideal and a module that is either zero or Ulrich.

Defining ideals of Cohen-Macaulay fiber cones

Let $A$ be a commutative Noetherian local ring with maximal ideal $\mathfrak{m}$, and let $I$ be an ideal. The fiber cone is then an image of the polynomial ring over the residue field $A/\mathfrak{m}$. The kernel of this map is called the defining ideal, and it is natural to ask how to compute it. In this paper, we provide a construction for the defining ideals of Cohen-Macaulay fiber cones.

Reflexive modules over Arf local rings

We provide a certain direct-sum decomposition of reflexive modules over (one-dimensional) Arf local rings. We also see the equivalence of three notions, say, integrally closed ideals, trace ideals, and reflexive modules of rank one (i.e., divisorial ideals) up to isomorphisms in Arf rings. As an application, we obtain the finiteness of indecomposable reflexive modules, up to isomorphism, for analytically irreducible Arf local rings.

Traces of semi-invariants

This article investigates the traces of certain modules over rings of invariants associated with finite groups. More precisely, we provide a formula for computing the traces of arbitrary semi-invariants, thereby contributing to the understanding of the non-Gorenstein locus of rings of invariants. Additionally, we discuss applications of this formula, including criteria for rings of invariants to be Gorenstein on the punctured spectrum and nearly Gorenstein, as well as criteria for semi-invariants to be locally free.

Nearly Gorenstein local rings defined by maximal minors of a $2 \times n$ matrix

We investigate the nearly Gorenstein property of a local ring defined by the maximal minors of a specific $2 \times n$ matrix with entries in the formal power series ring $k[[X_1, X_2, \ldots , X_n]]$ over a field $k$. Our findings allow us to present numerous concrete examples, such as nearly Gorenstein rings that are not almost Gorenstein and vice versa.

When are trace ideals finite?

In this paper, we study Noetherian local rings $R$ having a finite number of trace ideals. We proved that such rings are of dimension at most two. Furthermore, if the integral closure of $R/H$, where $H$ is the zeroth local cohomology, is equi-dimensional, then the dimension of $R$ is at most one. In the one-dimensional case, we can reduce to the situation that rings are Cohen-Macaulay. Then, we give a necessary condition to have a finite number of trace ideals in terms of the value set obtained by the canonical module. We also gave the correspondence between trace ideals of $R$ and those of the endomorphism algebra of the maximal ideal of $R$ when $R$ has minimal multiplicity.

On a generalized Auslander-Reiten conjecture

It is well-known that the generalized Auslander-Reiten condition (GARC) and the symmetric Auslander condition (SAC) are equivalent, and (GARC) implies that the Auslander-Reiten condition (ARC). In this paper we explore (SAC) along with the several canonical change of rings $R \to S$. First, we prove the equivalence of (SAC) for $R$ and $R/xR$, where $x$ is a non-zerodivisor on $R$, and the equivalence of (SAC) and (SACC) for rings with positive depth, where (SACC) is the symmetric Auslander condition for modules with constant rank. The latter assertion affirmatively answers a question posed by Celikbas and Takahashi. Secondly, for a ring homomorphism $R \to S$, we prove that if $S$ satisfies (SAC) (resp. (ARC)), then $R$ also satisfies (SAC) (resp. (ARC)) if the flat dimension of $S$ over $R$ is finite. We also prove that (SAC) for $R$ implies that (SAC) for $S$ when $R$ is Gorenstein and $S=R/Q^\ell$, where $Q$ is generated by a regular sequence of $R$ and the length of the sequence is at least $\ell$. This is a consequence of more general results about Ulrich ideals proved in this paper. Applying these results to determinantal rings and numerical semigroup rings, we provide new classes of rings satisfying (SAC). A relation between (SAC) and an invariant related to the finitistic extension degree is also explored.

The Auslander-Reiten conjecture for certain non-Gorenstein Cohen-Macaulay rings

The Auslander-Reiten conjecture is a notorious open problem about the vanishing of Ext modules. In a Cohen-Macaulay complete local ring $R$ with a parameter ideal $Q$, the Auslander-Reiten conjecture holds for $R$ if and only if it holds for the residue ring $R/Q$. In the former part of this paper, we study the Auslander-Reiten conjecture for the ring $R/Q^\ell$ in connection with that for $R$, and prove the equivalence of them for the case where $R$ is Gorenstein and $\ell\le \dim R$. In the latter part, we generalize the result of the minimal multiplicity by J. Sally. Due to these two of our results, we see that the Auslander-Reiten conjecture holds if there exists an Ulrich ideal whose residue ring is a complete intersection. We also explore the Auslander-Reiten conjecture for determinantal rings.

On generalized Gorenstein local rings

In this paper, we introduce generalized Gorenstein local (GGL) rings. The notion of GGL rings is a natural generalization of the notion of almost Gorenstein rings, which can thus be treated as part of the theory of GGL rings. For a Cohen-Macaulay local ring $R$, we explore the endomorphism algebra of the maximal ideal, the trace ideal of the canonical module, Ulrich ideals, and Rees algebras of parameter ideals in connection with the GGL property. We also give numerous examples of numerical semigroup rings, idealizations, and determinantal rings of certain matrices.

On the sectional genera and Cohen-Macaulay rings

We explore the behavior of the sectional genera of certain primary ideals in Noetherian local rings. In this paper, we provide characterizations of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring in terms of the sectional genera, the Cohen-Macaulay type, and the second Hilbert coefficients for certain primary ideals. We also characterize Gorenstein rings and quasi-Buchsbaum rings in terms of the sectional genera for certain primary ideals.

The set of trace ideals of curve singularities

This paper mainly focuses on commutative local domains of dimension one. We then obtain a criterion for a ring to have a finite number of trace ideals in terms of integrally closed ideals. We also explore properties of such rings related to birational extensions, reflexive ideals, and reflexive Ulrich modules. Special attention is given in the case of numerical semigroup rings of non-gap four. We then obtain a criterion for a ring to have a finite number of reflexive ideals up to isomorphism. Non-domains arising from fiber products are also explored.
