Optical Conductivity in the Copper Oxide Materials

The frequency- and temperature-dependent optical conductivity of the copper oxide materials in the underdoped and optimal doped regimes are studied within the t-J model. The conductivity spectrum shows the unusual behavior at low energies and anomalous midinfrared peak in the low temperatures. However, this midinfrared peak is severely depressed with increasing temperatures, and vanishes at higher temperatures.

Charge Dynamics from Copper Oxide Materials

The charge dynamics of the copper oxide materials in the underdoped and optimal doped regimes is studied within the framework of the fermion-spin theory. The conductivity spectrum shows the non-Drude behavior at low energies and unusual midinfrared peak, and the resistivity exhibits a linear behavior in the temperature, which are consistent with experiments and numerical simulations.

Theory of Photoemission from the Copper Oxide Material

A mean-field theory which satisfying the electron on-site local constraint in the relevant regime of density for the high temperature superconductors is developed. Within this approach, the electron spectral function, the electron dispersion, and the electron density of states of copper oxide materials are discussed, and the results are qualitative consistent with the numerical simulations.

Estimation of the Doping Dependence of Antiferromagnetism in the Copper Oxide Material

Within the $t$-$J$ model, we study the doping dependence of antiferromagnetism in the copper oxide materials by considering quantum fluctuations of spinons in the random-phase-approximation. The staggered magnetization vanishes around doping $δ=5%$ for a reasonable parameter value $t/J=5$, which is in agreement with the experiments on copper oxide materials.

Fermion-Spin Transformation to Implement the Charge-Spin Separation

A novel approach, the fermion-spin transformation to implement the charge-spin separation, is developed to study the low-dimensional $t$-$J$ model. In this approach, the charge and spin degrees of freedom of the physical electron are separated, and the charge degree of freedom is represented by a spinless fermion while the spin degree of freedom is represented by a {\it hard-core boson}. The on-site local constraint for single occupancy is satisfied even in the mean-field approximation and the sum rule for the physical electron is obeyed. This approach can be applied to both one and two-dimensional systems. In the one-dimensional case, the spinon as well as the physical electron behaves like Luttinger liquids. We have obtained a gapless charge and spin excitation spectrum, a good ground state energy, and a reasonable electron-momentum distribution within the mean-field approximation. The correct exponents of the correlation functions and momentum distribution are also obtained if the {\it squeezing} effect and rearrangement of the spin configurations are taken into account. In the two-dimensional case, within the mean-field approximation the magnetized flux state with a gap in the spinon spectrum has the lowest energy at half-filling. The antiferromagnetic long-range order is destroyed by hole doping

Slave Particle Studies of the Electron Momentum Distribution in the Low Dimensional $t-J$ Model

The electron momentum distribution function in the $t-J$ model is studied in the framework of slave particle approach. Within the decoupling scheme used in the gauge field and related theories, we treat formally phase and amplitude fluctuations as well as constraints without further approximations. Our result indicates that the electron Fermi surface observed in the high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission and inverse photoemission experiments cannot be explained within this framework, and the sum rule for the physical electron is not obeyed. A correct scaling behavior of the electron momentum distribution function near $k \sim k_{F}$ and $k \sim 3k_{F}$ in one dimension can be reproduced by considering the nonlocal string fields [Z. Y. Weng et al., Phys. Rev. B45, 7850 (1992)], but the overall momentum distribution is still not correct, at least at the mean field level.
