Lower bound for the rank of rigidity matrix of 4-valent graphs under various connectivity assumptions

In this paper we study the rank of planar rigidity matrix of 4-valent graphs, both in case of generic realizations and configurations in general position, under various connectivity assumptions on the graphs. For each case considered, we prove a lower bound and provide an example which shows the order of the bound we proved is sharp. This work is closed related to work in \cite{Luo:Rigidity} and answers some questions raised there.

Cohomology rings of good contact toric manifolds

A good contact toric manifold $M$ is determined by its moment cone $C$. We compute the equivariant cohomology ring with $\Z$ coefficient of $M$ in terms of the combinatorial data of $C$. Then under a smoothness criterion on the cone $C$, we compute the singular cohomology ring with $\Z$ coefficient of $M$ in terms of the combinatorial data of $C$.

On Graph Cohomology and Betti Numbers of Hamiltonian GKM Manifolds

In this paper we introduce the concept of characteristic number that are proven to be useful in the study of the combinatorics of graph cohomology. We claim that it is a good combinatorial counterpart for geometric Betti numbers. We then use this concept and tools built along the way to study Hamiltonian GKM manifolds whose moment maps are in general position. We prove some connectivity properties of the their GKM graphs and show an upper bound of their second Betti numbers, which allows us to conclude that these manifolds, in the case of dimension 8 and 10, have non-decreasing even Betti numbers up to half dimension.

Moment Angle Complexes and Big Cohen-Macaulayness

Let Z_K be the moment angle complex associated to a simplicial complex K, with the canonical torus T-action. In this paper, we prove that, for any possibly disconnected subgroup G of T, G-equivariant cohomology of Z_K over the integer Z is isomophic to the Tor-module Tor_{H(BR;Z)}(Z[K],Z) as graded modules, where Z_[K] is the Stanley-Reisner ring of K. Based on this, we prove that the surjectivity of the natural map H_T(Z_K;Z) to H_G(Z_K;Z) is equivalent to the vanishing of Tor^{H(BR;Z)}_1(Z[K],Z). Since the integral cohomology of various toric orbifolds can be identified with H_G(Z_K;Z), we studied the conditions for the cohomology of a toric orbifold to be a quotient of its equivariant cohomology by linear terms.
