On the Relationship of Dichotomy of Mars and Occurrence of Dust Devils with Crustal Magnetic Fields

The dichotomy referred to as a partition or separation of a whole into two parts and specifically, the dichotomy is very important feature of Mars between the Southern and Northern regions of Mars, and another thing that makes Mars very special that is the occurrence of Dust Devils on Mars. So, we studied and survey the dust devils occurrence on Mars in different Martian Years on the whole Mars. We create a 2D map of Martian Surface and plot the coordinates where the dust devils are captured during their activity and use those locations where they leave the tracks behind them after passing from those locations and those tracks commonly referred to as a Dust Devils Tracks. So, we plot them in two different categories Direct Observations and Indirect Observations of Dust Devils and in the map, we have plotted the locations (coordinates) of DDs shows a variation in locations of occurrences with the Dichotomy the serpent like variation we observed and we find most of the dust devil are occurred on the Dichotomy and the nearby regions of it which follows the serpent like trajectory of dichotomy of Mars and another observation shows that these locations lie on the remanent magnetic fields zones of mars which referred to as crustal magnetic fields of Mars this previously unknown relationship between crustal magnetic fields, dichotomy of mars and occurrence of dust devils is being examined here.

Optimal Energy Management in Indoor Farming Using Lighting Flexibility and Intelligent Model Predictive Control

Indoor farming enables year-round food production but its reliance on artificial lighting significantly increases energy consumption, peak load charges, and energy costs for growers. Recent studies indicate that plants are able to tolerate interruptions in light, enabling the design of 24-hour lighting schedules (or "recipes") with strategic light modulation in alignment with day-ahead pricing. Thus, we propose an optimal lighting control strategy for indoor farming that modulates light intensity and photoperiod to reduce energy costs. The control strategy is implemented within a model predictive control framework and augmented with transformer-based neural networks to forecast 24-hour ahead solar radiation and electricity prices to improve energy cost reduction. The control strategy is informed by real-world experimentation on lettuce crops to discover minimum light exposure and appropriate dark-light intervals, which are mathematically formulated as constraints to maintain plant health. Simulations for a one-hectare greenhouse, based on real electricity market data from Ontario, demonstrate an annual cost reduction of $318,400 (20.9%), a peak load decrease of 1.6 MW (33.32%), and total energy savings of 1890 MWh (20.2%) against a baseline recipe. These findings highlight the potential of intelligent lighting control to improve the sustainability and economic feasibility of indoor farming.

NDUI+: A fused DMSP-VIIRS based global normalized difference urban index dataset

Urbanization is advancing rapidly, covering less than 2% of Earth's surface yet profoundly influencing global environments and experiencing disproportionate impacts from extreme weather events. Effective urban management and planning require high-resolution, temporally consistent datasets that capture the complexity of urban growth and dynamics. This study presents NDUI+, a novel global urban dataset addressing critical gaps in urban data continuity and quality. NDUI+ integrates data from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program's Operational Linescan System (DMSP-OLS), VIIRS Nighttime Light, and Landsat 7 NDVI using advanced remote sensing and deep learning techniques. The dataset resolves sensor discontinuity challenges, offering a seamless 30-meter spatial and annual temporal resolution time series from 1999 to the present. NDUI+ demonstrates high precision and granularity, aligning closely with high-resolution satellite data and capturing urban dynamics effectively. The dataset provides valuable insights for urban climate studies, IPCC assessments, and urbanization research, complementing resources like UT-GLOBUS for urban modeling.

Field Testing of Residential Bidirectional Electric Vehicle Charger for Power System Applications

Bidirectional electric vehicle (EV) charging is a technology that is gaining rapid popularity due to its ability to provide economic and environmental benefits to both EV owners and power system operators (PSOs). Using the EV as a flexible source of energy, an EV owner can provide power to homes/buildings, or even participate in grid services such as demand response and frequency regulation. However, there is a lack of real-world testing and validation for bidirectional charging technology, particularly in the residential segment. As such, this paper presents real-world field testing of a bidirectional EV charger deployed in a home. Control software is developed to dispatch the EV according to static setpoints, as well as automated load following, and its accuracy and responsiveness is reported on. The results of the testing with the charger and 2019 Nissan Leaf combination indicates a responsiveness of 6-8 seconds and accuracy of over 99%, which suggests feasible participation for applications such as load following, arbitrage, and demand response.

Blockchain Based Transactive Energy Systems for Voltage Regulation

Transactive Energy Systems (TES) are modern mechanisms in electric power systems that allow disparate control agents to utilize distributed generation units (DGs) to engage in energy transactions and provide ancillary services to the grid. Although voltage regulation is a crucial ancillary service within active distribution networks (ADNs), previous work has not adequately explored how this service can be offered in terms of its incentivization, contract auditability and enforcement. Blockchain technology shows promise in being a key enabler of TES, allowing agents to engage in trustless, persistent transactions that are both enforceable and auditable. To that end, this paper proposes a blockchain based TES that enables agents to receive incentives for providing voltage regulation services by i) maintaining an auditable reputation rating for each agent that is increased proportionately with each mitigation of a voltage violation, ii) utilizing smart contracts to enforce the validity of each transaction and penalize reputation ratings in case of a mitigation failure and iii) automating the negotiation and bidding of agent services by implementing the contract net protocol (CNP) as a smart contract. Experimental results on both simulated and real-world ADNs are executed to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed system.

Design and Field Implementation of Blockchain Based Renewable Energy Trading in Residential Communities

This paper proposes a peer to peer (P2P), blockchain based energy trading market platform for residential communities with the objective of reducing overall community peak demand and household electricity bills. Smart homes within the community place energy bids for its available distributed energy resources (DERs) for each discrete trading period during a day, and a double auction mechanism is used to clear the market and compute the market clearing price (MCP). The marketplace is implemented on a permissioned blockchain infrastructure, where bids are stored to the immutable ledger and smart contracts are used to implement the MCP calculation and award service contracts to all winning bids. Utilizing the blockchain obviates the need for a trusted, centralized auctioneer, and eliminates vulnerability to a single point of failure. Simulation results show that the platform enables a community peak demand reduction of 46%, as well as a weekly savings of 6%. The platform is also tested at a real-world Canadian microgrid using the Hyperledger Fabric blockchain framework, to show the end to end connectivity of smart home DERs to the platform.
