BadTime: An Effective Backdoor Attack on Multivariate Long-Term Time Series Forecasting

Multivariate long-term time series forecasting (MLTSF) models are increasingly deployed in critical domains such as climate, finance, and transportation. Despite their growing importance, the security of MLTSF models against backdoor attacks remains entirely unexplored. To bridge this gap, we propose BadTime, the first effective backdoor attack tailored for MLTSF. BadTime can manipulate hundreds of future predictions toward a target pattern by injecting a subtle trigger. BadTime addresses two key challenges that arise uniquely in MLTSF: (i) the rapid dilution of local triggers over long horizons, and (ii) the extreme sparsity of backdoor signals under stealth constraints. To counter dilution, BadTime leverages inter-variable correlations, temporal lags, and data-driven initialization to design a distributed, lag-aware trigger that ensures effective influence over long-range forecasts. To overcome sparsity, it introduces a hybrid strategy to select valuable poisoned samples and a decoupled backdoor training objective that adaptively adjusts the model's focus on the sparse backdoor signal, ensuring reliable learning at a poisoning rate as low as 1%. Extensive experiments show that BadTime significantly outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) backdoor attacks on time series forecasting by extending the attackable horizon from at most 12 timesteps to 720 timesteps (a 60-fold improvement), reducing MAE by over 50% on target variables, and boosting stealthiness by more than 3-fold under anomaly detection.

PRISM: Precision-Recall Informed Data-Free Knowledge Distillation via Generative Diffusion

Data-free knowledge distillation (DFKD) transfers knowledge from a teacher to a student without access to the real in-distribution (ID) data. While existing methods perform well on small-scale images, they suffer from mode collapse when synthesizing large-scale images, resulting in limited knowledge transfer. Recently, leveraging advanced generative models to synthesize photorealistic images has emerged as a promising alternative. Nevertheless, directly using off-the-shelf diffusion to generate datasets faces the precision-recall challenges: 1) ensuring synthetic data aligns with the real distribution, and 2) ensuring coverage of the real ID manifold. In response, we propose PRISM, a precision-recall informed synthesis method. Specifically, we introduce Energy-guided Distribution Alignment to avoid the generation of out-of-distribution samples, and design the Diversified Prompt Engineering to enhance coverage of the real ID manifold. Extensive experiments on various large-scale image datasets demonstrate the superiority of PRISM. Moreover, we demonstrate that models trained with PRISM exhibit strong domain generalization.

An Agile Adaptation Method for Multi-mode Vehicle Communication Networks

This paper focuses on discovering the impact of communication mode allocation on communication efficiency in the vehicle communication networks. To be specific, Markov decision process and reinforcement learning are applied to establish an agile adaptation mechanism for multi-mode communication devices according to the driving scenarios and business requirements. Then, Q-learning is used to train the agile adaptation reinforcement learning model and output the trained model. By learning the best actions to take in different states to maximize the cumulative reward, and avoiding the problem of poor adaptation effect caused by inaccurate delay measurement in unstable communication scenarios. The experiments show that the proposed scheme can quickly adapt to dynamic vehicle networking environment, while achieving high concurrency and communication efficiency.

An NLoS-based Enhanced Sensing Method for MmWave Communication System

The millimeter-wave (mmWave)-based Wi-Fi sensing technology has recently attracted extensive attention since it provides a possibility to realize higher sensing accuracy. However, current works mainly concentrate on sensing scenarios where the line-of-sight (LoS) path exists, which significantly limits their applications. To address the problem, we propose an enhanced mmWave sensing algorithm in the 3D non-line-of-sight environment (mm3NLoS), aiming to sense the direction and distance of the target when the LoS path is weak or blocked. Specifically, we first adopt the directional beam to estimate the azimuth/elevation angle of arrival (AoA) and angle of departure (AoD) of the reflection path. Then, the distance of the related path is measured by the fine timing measurement protocol. Finally, we transform the AoA and AoD of the multiple non-line-of-sight (NLoS) paths into the direction vector and then obtain the information of targets based on the geometric relationship. The simulation results demonstrate that mm3NLoS can achieve a centimeter-level error with a 2m spacing. Compared to the prior work, it can significantly reduce the performance degradation under the NLoS condition.
