Direct Bayesian Inference of Helicity Amplitudes from Detector-Level Scattering Data

Helicity amplitudes give the most complete description of a variety of scattering reactions used in studies of strong interactions, but they cannot be measured directly: experiments record bilinear combinations of them folded through a detector response, and conventional analyses recover them through multiple stages that introduce discrete ambiguities and require a separate extraction of the absolute cross sections. Here we replace that chain with a single Bayesian inference that determines the experimentally identifiable amplitude parameters directly from detector-level measurements. A score-based diffusion model, trained on a forward simulator, provides the full posterior in each kinematic bin, with the detector response carried by the forward model and positivity of the spin-density matrix guaranteed by the parameterization. The observable amplitude content in electroproduction of final particles grows with polarization of beams and targets, providing additional sensitivity to underlying phases. In simulation, the posterior achieves empirical coverage at or above the nominal level and delivers the angular observables and the separated contributions from longitudinal and transverse photons with their correlations retained. It transfers without retraining to a realistic detector response absent from training and remains reliable in the weakly constrained nucleon-helicity-flip sector, where per-bin likelihood maximization degrades. The result is a general framework for a broad class of inverse problems, phase retrieval, quantum-state tomography, and partial-wave analysis are further instances. Its core requires only a forward simulation of the complete measurement process, instrumental effects are handled within one statistically consistent posterior, applicable across exclusive vector-meson programs at Jefferson Lab, COMPASS, HERMES, and the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Probing the Sivers Asymmetry with Transverse Energy-Energy Correlators in the Small-$x$ Regime

We investigate transverse energy-energy correlators (TEECs) for both polarized and unpolarized targets in the small-$x$ regime at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). Focusing on the approximately back-to-back electroproduction of a hadron-electron pair, we apply transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) factorization formulas that incorporate TMD evolution for both event-shape observables and expand them in terms of the small-$x$ dipole amplitude. This allows us to write the TEEC off the transversely polarized proton in terms of a C-odd interaction, corresponding to an odderon exchange. Due to the charge-conjugation-odd nature of the small-$x$ quark Sivers function, we restrict the sum over final hadronic states to positively and negatively charged hadrons separately. We present numerical predictions for the TEEC Sivers asymmetry at the EIC and find the magnitude of the asymmetry to be on the $0.01 \%$ level. This channel offers a promising avenue for benchmarking the still largely unconstrained odderon amplitude.

Gluon Generalized TMD signatures at the EIC from exclusive heavy (axial-)vector meson production

Potential experimental signatures of gluon generalized transverse momentum-dependent distributions (GTMDs) are proposed via exclusive heavy (axial-)vector meson production in lepton-proton collisions. Within the framework of collinear twist-3 factorization, we show that specific azimuthal-angle-dependent observables can provide sensitivity to the gluon GTMDs $F_{1,4}^g$ and $G_{1,1}^g$, which are related to partonic orbital angular momentum and spin-orbit correlations, respectively. These functions represent a unique sector of nucleon structure with no counterparts in the generalized parton distribution or transverse-momentum-dependent frameworks. We show that interference between different virtual-photon polarizations leads to distinct azimuthal modulations, including the polarization-independent $\cos 2ϕ$ and polarization-dependent $\sin 2ϕ$ terms, with $ϕ$ defined as the angle between the lepton scattering plane and the hadron production plane. These observables provide signatures of the elusive gluon GTMDs $F_{1,4}^g$ and $G_{1,1}^g$, opening a new channel to access the spin structure of the nucleon at the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Parton distributions in the shockwave formalism

In this work, we calculate a broad class of parton distributions - including parton distribution functions (PDFs), transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs), generalized parton distributions (GPDs), generalized transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (GTMDs), and diffractive parton distributions - directly from their operator-level definition in the shockwave approximation for the target nucleon. This approximation is valid in the high-energy limit of scattering, corresponding to the small-$x$ regime. The shockwave framework allows us to employ the eikonal approximation and express the parton distributions in terms of Wilson-line correlators, naturally formulated within the color-glass condensate effective field theory. We present a comprehensive set of Feynman rules for evaluating parton distributions in this limit, and demonstrate how they can be systematically applied to calculate all phenomenologically relevant leading-twist parton distributions at leading order. This work establishes a unified starting point for future studies that aim to bridge the color-glass condensate approach with the partonic description of the nucleon.

Matching collinear factorization with color-glass condensate for inclusive and exclusive deep inelastic scattering

Collinear factorization and color-glass condensate (CGC) effective field theory are generally treated as separate approaches for calculating scattering amplitudes, valid in different kinematic regimes. For deep inelastic scattering at high photon virtuality and high center-of-mass energy, however, both of these approaches should be applicable. By expressing collinear parton distributions and generalized parton distributions in the shockwave approximation, we show that the resulting collinear-factorization amplitudes exactly reproduce the large-$Q^2$ expansion of CGC amplitudes for inclusive deep inelastic scattering, deeply virtual Compton scattering, and deeply virtual meson production. The matching holds directly at the amplitude level and includes both logarithmically enhanced and finite contributions. Our results establish the consistency between collinear factorization and the CGC in their common region of validity, clarify the origin of large momentum logarithms within the CGC framework, and provide a path toward combining high-energy and collinear evolution in a unified description of hadronic structure at small $x$ and large momentum scales.

Revealing chiral-odd two-meson generalized distribution amplitudes in $e^- e^+ \to (ππ) (ππ)$ reactions

We demonstrate that chiral-odd dimeson generalized distribution amplitudes (CO-GDAs) -- nonperturbative objects encoding the transition of a quark-antiquark pair into two mesons -- can be accessed in high-energy $e^- e^+$ annihilation into two meson pairs, each with a relatively low invariant mass. While chiral-even GDAs contribute to the leading one-photon amplitude, the chiral-odd sector enters via two-photon exchange. We show that the interference between these amplitudes leads to specific effects which may be measurable at BES III or future tau-charm factories. This work opens a direct path to experimentally probing the long-missing chiral-odd sector of meson structure-specifically, the spin-orbit correlation in a spin-zero meson, in some contexts referred to as anomalous tensorial magnetic moment.

Generalized Parton Distributions from Lattice QCD with Asymmetric Momentum Transfer: Tensor Case

The calculation of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in lattice QCD was traditionally done by calculating matrix elements in the symmetric frame. Recent advancements have significantly reduced computational costs by calculating these matrix elements in the asymmetric frame, allowing us to choose the momentum transfer to be in either the initial or final states only. The theoretical methodology requires a new parametrization of the matrix element to obtain Lorentz-invariant amplitudes, which are then related to the GPDs. The formulation and implementation of this approach have already been established for the unpolarized and helicity GPDs. Building upon this idea, we extend this formulation to the four leading-twist quark transversity GPDs ($H_T$, $E_T$, $\widetilde{H}_T$, $\widetilde{E}_T$). We also present numerical results for zero skewness using an $N_f=2+1+1$ ensemble of twisted mass fermions with a clover improvement. The light quark masses employed in these calculations correspond to a pion mass of about 260 MeV. Furthermore, we include a comparison between the symmetric and asymmetric frame calculations to demonstrate frame independence of the Lorentz-invariant amplitudes. Analysis of the matrix elements in the asymmetric frame is performed at several values of the momentum transfer squared, $-t$, ranging from 0.17 GeV$^2$ to 2.29 GeV$^2$.

Generalized Parton Distributions from Lattice QCD with Asymmetric Momentum Transfer: Unpolarized Quarks at Nonzero Skewness

We extend the formalism of asymmetric frames of reference for generalized parton distributions (GPDs) to the case of nonzero skewness, i.e., including longitudinal momentum transfer. The framework, based on Lorentz-invariant amplitudes and previously developed and numerically implemented for unpolarized, helicity and transversity GPDs at zero skewness, gives efficient access to a broad range of kinematics, making full mapping of GPDs from the lattice realistic. The general-skewness formalism is tested using lattice data with both transverse and longitudinal or only longitudinal momentum transfer, the latter being a special case with a reduced number of independent amplitudes. We extract the amplitudes in coordinate space and express the GPDs $H$ and $E$ in terms of these amplitudes. This is followed by reconstruction of quasi-distributions and their matching to the light cone. We further identify and discuss the principal challenges for nonzero skewness GPDs.

QED nuclear medium effects at EIC energies

We present the first calculation of quantum electrodynamics (QED) nuclear medium effects under the experimental conditions of future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) experiments. Our work offers numerical estimates, particularly in the context of inclusive deep inelastic scattering on a $^{208}_{82}\mathrm{Pb}$ nucleus. While prior studies have predominantly focused on elastic scattering, our investigation extends to the more complex scenarios of inelastic processes within a nuclear medium. Our findings suggest that the cross-section corrections due to QED nuclear medium effects could be substantial, reaching or exceeding the level of experimental precision. This work further compares the effects of single re-scattering events with those of multiple re-scatterings, as particles travel the nuclear volume. We estimate the dominant source of the uncertainties associated with our formalism by varying the scale of the atomic physics where the screening of the electric field of the nucleus happens. This calculation not only contributes to the understanding of QED nuclear medium effects, but also offers a path to a more precise extraction of the process-independent non-perturbative structure of nuclei.

Towards the determination of CP-odd pion-nucleon couplings

The nucleon matrix elements (NMEs) associated with quark chromo-magnetic dipole moments (cMDMs) play a crucial role in determining the CP-odd pion-nucleon couplings induced by quark chromo-electric dipole moments. In recent years, it has been argued that the NMEs of cMDMs can be related to the third moment of the nucleon's higher-twist (specifically, twist-three) parton distribution function (PDF) $e(x)$, which can, in principle, be measured through dihadron production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes. By applying the spin-flavor expansion to the cMDM operators in the large-$N_c$ limit, where $N_c$ is the number of quark colors, we show that the NMEs receive contributions not only from the twist-three PDF $e(x)$ but also from an additional, previously neglected nucleon form factor. Incorporating constraints from the spin-flavor expansion, recent experimental data on $e(x)$, as well as model calculations of $e(x)$, we estimate the NMEs of the cMDM operators. Our analysis indicates that the NMEs are dominated by the nucleon form factors, and the cMDM contributions to pion-nucleon couplings can be comparable to those from the quark sigma terms.

Moments of Axial-Vector GPD from Lattice QCD: Quark Helicity, Orbital Angular Momentum, and Spin-Orbit Correlation

In this work, we present a lattice QCD calculation of the Mellin moments of the twist-2 axial-vector generalized parton distribution (GPD), $\widetilde{H}(x,ξ,t)$, at zero skewness, $ξ$, with multiple values of the momentum transfer, $t$. Our analysis employs the short-distance factorization framework on ratio-scheme renormalized quasi-GPD matrix elements. The calculations are based on an $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions ensemble with clover improvement, a lattice spacing of $a = 0.093$ fm, and a pion mass of $m_π= 260$ MeV. We consider both the iso-vector and iso-scalar cases, utilizing next-to-leading-order perturbative matching while omitting the disconnected contributions and gluon mixing in the iso-scalar case. For the first time, we determine the Mellin moments of $\widetilde{H}$ up to the fifth order. From these moments, we discuss the quark helicity and orbital angular momentum contributions to the nucleon spin, as well as the spin-orbit correlations of the quarks. Additionally, we perform a Fourier transform over the momentum transfer, which allows us to explore the spin structure in the impact-parameter space.

Gradient flow of the Weinberg operator

We present preliminary results on the susceptibilities involving the CP-violating (CPV) Weinberg three-gluon operator and the topological $Θ$ term using the gradient flow scheme, and study their continuum and chiral extrapolations. These are used to provide an estimate of the $Θ$ induced by the Weinberg operator in theories with the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) mechanism. Combined with the calculations of the matrix elements (MEs) of quark-bilinears between nucleon states, such calculations will enable estimates of the electric dipole moments (EDMs) and CPV pion-nucleon couplings due to the Weinberg operator, thereby providing robust constraints on beyond the standard model (BSM) physics.

Hadron structure via Generalized Parton Distributions

Recent advancements have made it possible to approximate light-cone correlation functions in lattice QCD by computing their Euclidean counterparts. In these proceedings, we review key developments in this approach and explore their direct implications for Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs). Furthermore, we emphasize the pivotal role of GPDs in uncovering the internal structure of hadrons and beyond.

Spin-orbit entanglement in the Color Glass Condensate

We compute the spin-orbit correlations of quarks and gluons at small-$x$ and show that the helicity and the orbital angular momentum of individual partons are strongly anti-aligned even in unpolarized or spinless hadrons and nuclei. Combined with the fact that gluons in the Color Glass Condensate are linearly polarized, our finding indicates that the helicity and the orbital angular momentum of single gluons are maximally entangled in a quantum mechanical sense.

Nonlocal chiral anomaly and generalized parton distributions

We discuss the nonlocal generalization of the QCD chiral anomaly along the light-cone and derive relations between twist-two, twist-three and twist-four generalized parton distributions (GPDs) mediated by the anomaly. We further establish the connection to the `anomaly pole' in the GPD $\tilde{E}$ recently identified in the perturbative calculation of the Compton scattering amplitudes, and demonstrate its cancellation at the GPD level. Our work helps elucidate the previously unexplored connection between GPDs, the chiral anomaly, and the mass generation of the $η'$ meson.

Generalized parton distributions from the pseudo-distribution approach on the lattice

Generalized parton distributions (GPDs) are key quantities for the description of a hadron's three-dimensional structure. They are the current focus of all areas of hadronic physics -- phenomenological, experimental, and theoretical, including lattice QCD. Synergies between these areas are desirable and essential to achieve precise quantification and understanding of the structure of, particularly nucleons, as the basic ingredients of matter. In this paper, we investigate, for the first time, the numerical implementation of the pseudo-distribution approach for the extraction of zero-skewness GPDs for unpolarized quarks. Pseudo-distributions are Euclidean parton correlators computable in lattice QCD that can be perturbatively matched to the light-cone parton distributions of interest. Being closely related to the quasi-distributions and coming from the same lattice-extracted matrix elements, they are, however, subject to different systematic effects. We use the data previously utilized for quasi-GPDs and extend it with other momentum transfers and nucleon boosts, in particular a higher one ($P_3=1.67$ GeV) with eight-fold larger statistics than the largest one used for quasi-distributions ($P_3=1.25$ GeV). We renormalize the matrix elements with a ratio scheme and match the resulting Ioffe time distributions to the light cone in coordinate space. The matched distributions are then used to reconstruct the $x$-dependence with a fitting ansatz. We investigate some systematic effects related to this procedure, and we also compare the results with the ones obtained in the framework of quasi-GPDs. Our final results involve the invariant four-momentum transfer squared ($-t$) dependence of the flavor non-singlet ($u-d$) $H$ and $E$ GPDs.

Probing quark orbital angular momentum at EIC and EicC

We propose to detect signals from quark orbital angular momentum (OAM) through exclusive $π^0$ production in electron-(longitudinally-polarized) proton collisions. Our analysis demonstrates that the $\sin 2ϕ$ azimuthal angular correlation between the transverse momentum of the scattered electron and the recoil proton serves as a sensitive probe of quark OAM. Additionally, we present a numerical estimate of the asymmetry associated with this correlation for the kinematics accessible at EIC and EicC. This study aims to pave the way for the first experimental study of quark OAM in relation to the Jaffe-Manohar spin sum rule.
