A spatial surface is a compact surface embedded in the 3-sphere. In this paper, we provide several typical examples of spatial surfaces and construct a coloring invariant to distinguish them. The coloring is defined by using a multiple group rack, which is a rack version of a multiple conjugation quandle.
We give a presentation for a non-split compact surface embedded in the 3-sphere by using diagrams of spatial trivalent graphs equipped with signs and we define Reidemeister moves for such signed diagrams. We show that two diagrams of embedded surfaces are related by Reidemeister moves if and only if the surfaces represented by the diagrams are ambient isotopic in the 3-sphere.
We introduce (co)homology theory for multiple group racks and construct cocycle invariants of compact oriented surfaces in the 3-sphere using their 2-cocycles, where a multiple group rack is a rack consisting of a disjoint union of groups. We provide a method to find new rack cocycles and multiple group rack cocycles from existing rack cocycles and quandle cocycles. Evaluating cocycle invariants, we determine several symmetry types, caused by chirality and invertibility, of compact oriented surfaces in the 3-sphere.
An oriented link projection is the image of a generic immersion of oriented circles into the 2-sphere. The circle arrangement of a link projection is a disjoint union of unoriented circles on the 2-sphere obtained by orientation-incoherent smoothing at each crossing point. We show that two oriented link projections have the same circle arrangement if and only if they are transformed into each other by certain local moves. We also show that every odd (resp. even) component link has a link projection whose circle arrangement consists of exactly one (resp. two) circles.
Biquandles and multiple conjugation biquandles are algebras which are related to links and handlebody-links in $3$-space. Cocycles of them can be used to construct state-sum type invariants of links and handlebody-links. In this paper we discuss cocycles of a certain class of biquandles and multiple conjugation biquandles, which we call $G$-Alexander biquandles and $G$-Alexander multiple conjugation biquandles, with a relationship with group cocycles. We give a method to obtain a (biquandle or multiple conjugation biquandle) cocycle of them from a group cocycle.
In this paper, we introduce the (co)homology group of a multiple conjugation biquandle. It is the (co)homology group of the prismatic chain complex, which is related to the homology of foams introduced by J. S. Carter, modulo a certain subchain complex. We construct invariants for $S^1$-oriented handlebody-links using $2$-cocycles. When a multiple conjugation biquandle $X\times\mathbb{Z}_{\operatorname{type}X_Y}$ is obtained from a biquandle $X$ using $n$-parallel operations, we provide a $2$-cocycle (or $3$-cocycle) of the multiple conjugation biquandle $X\times\mathbb{Z}_{\operatorname{type}X_Y}$ from a $2$-cocycle (or $3$-cocycle) of the biquandle $X$ equipped with an $X$-set $Y$.
We introduce a multiple conjugation biquandle, and show that it is the universal algebra to define a semi-arc coloring invariant for handlebody-links. A multiple conjugation biquandle is a generalization of a multiple conjugation quandle. We extend the notion of $n$-parallel biquandle operations for any integer $n$, and show that any biquandle gives a multiple conjugation biquandle with them.
We say that a $2$-dimensional CW complex is a multibranched surface if we remove all points whose open neighborhoods are homeomorphic to the $2$-dimensional Euclidean space, then we obtain a $1$-dimensional complex which is homeomorphic to a disjoint union of some $S^1$'s. We define the genus of a multibranched surface $X$ as the minimum number of genera of $3$-dimensional manifold into which $X$ can be embedded. We prove some inequalities which give upper bounds for the genus of a multibranched surface. A multibranched surface is a generalization of graphs. Therefore, we can define "minors" of multibranched surfaces analogously. We study various properties of the minors of multibranched surfaces.
We consider an embedding of a $2$-dimensional CW complex into the $3$-sphere, and construct it's dual graph. Then we obtain a homogeneous system of linear equations from the $2$-dimensional CW complex in the first homology group of the complement of the dual graph. By checking that the homogeneous system of linear equations does not have an integral solution, we show that some $2$-dimensional CW complexes cannot be embedded into the 3-sphere.
