Optothermal Actuation of Unidirectional Thermo-osmotic Flows

In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate the microscale direction control of thermoosmotic flows using a focused-laser heating. The key is the off-center laser irradiation on an immobilized light-absorbing microparticle, which generates a nonuniform, asymmetric heat source. The resulting thermo-osmotic flows are evaluated using the optically trapped particle tracking velocimetry (ot-PTV), presented in our preceding paper (T. Tsuji, et al., Physical Review Fluids 11, 034901 (2026)). It is shown that the flow characteristics can be modulated by the ionic strength of a sample solution and/or the surface molecular coating of the substrate. In particular, the significance of ionic strength on thermo-osmotic flows are discussed based on the surface potential of the substrate measured by frequency-modulated atomic force microscopy.

Black hole as a multipartite entangler: multi-entropy in AdS${}_3$/CFT${}_2$

We study multipartite entanglement in typical pure states holographically dual to pure BTZ black holes, using multi-entropy and its ``genuine'' version. In the bulk, these quantities are computed by minimal geodesic networks (so-called Steiner trees). We find that at sufficiently high temperature, the genuine tripartite multi-entropy exhibits a volume-law scaling in sharp contrast to vacuum AdS$_3$, where the genuine contribution is universal and size-independent. Moreover, we find another phase: once one subsystem exceeds half of the total system, the leading genuine tripartite entanglement vanishes and reduces to that for global AdS${}_3$. This transition is indeed consistent with recent arguments for distillable EPR pairs in tripartite Haar-random states. Motivated by finite-cutoff holography, we further study the radial cutoff dependence of multi-entropy and show that genuine multi-entropy acquires nontrivial size dependence even for the tripartite case in AdS${}_3$. As a byproduct, we also observe an intriguing ``area-law'' contribution to multi-entropy that is relevant to vacuum AdS${}_3$.

Self-Supervised Neural Architecture Search for Multimodal Deep Neural Networks

Neural architecture search (NAS), which automates the architectural design process of deep neural networks (DNN), has attracted increasing attention. Multimodal DNNs that necessitate feature fusion from multiple modalities benefit from NAS due to their structural complexity; however, constructing an architecture for multimodal DNNs through NAS requires a substantial amount of labeled training data. Thus, this paper proposes a self-supervised learning (SSL) method for architecture search of multimodal DNNs. The proposed method applies SSL comprehensively for both the architecture search and model pretraining processes. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method successfully designed architectures for DNNs from unlabeled training data.

Spin phase detection by spin current in a chiral helimagnet

Helimagnets, characterized by a helical arrangement of magnetic moments, possess unique internal degrees of freedom, including the spin phase, defined by the phase of the helical magnetic structure. Electrical detection of the spin phase is essential for both practical applications and fundamental research in helimagnets. Here, we demonstrate the electrical detection of the spin phase in a van der Waals nanoscale chiral helimagnet CrNb$_3$S$_6$ using nonlocal spin valve measurements. Due to the short spin diffusion length in CrNb$_3$S$_6$ ($\sim5$~nm), the surface magnetic moment direction, which corresponds to the spin phase, can be detected via spin currents. The experimentally observed magnetic field dependence of the nonlocal spin valve signal is consistent with that of the surface magnetic moment in the helical magnetic structure, as supported by micromagnetic simulations. Our results establish spin currents as a powerful tool for detecting the spin phase in helimagnets, opening avenues for utilizing the spin phase as a novel internal degree of freedom in nanoscale spintronic devices.

Butterfly-shaped magnetoresistance in triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ag$_2$CrO$_2$

Spintronic devices using antiferromagnets (AFMs) are promising candidates for future applications. Recently, many interesting physical properties have been reported with AFM-based devices. Here we report a butterfly-shaped magnetoresistance (MR) in a micrometer-sized triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ag$_2$CrO$_2$. The material consists of two-dimensional triangular-lattice CrO$_2$ layers with antiferromagnetically coupled $S$ = 3/2 spins and Ag$_2$ layers with high electrical conductivity. The butterfly-shaped MR appears only when the magnetic field is applied perpendicularly to the CrO$_2$ plane with the maximum MR ratio ($\approx$ 15%) at the magnetic ordering temperature. These features are distinct from those observed in conventional magnetic materials. We propose a theoretical model where fluctuations of partially disordered spins with the Ising anisotropy play an essential role in the butterfly-shaped MR in Ag$_2$CrO$_2$.
