Quantum Chinese Remainder Clock

The Chinese remainder theorem is used in metrology for extending the range of quantum clocks/radar/interferometry, where the phase of a signal is known relative to a set of oscillators with different periods. This paper investigates the performance of a quantum-mechanical Chinese remainder clock, consisting of atoms/oscillators with pairwise coprime periods. We provide the optimal initial state and the optimal Heisenberg-limited quantum measurements for measuring time up to the product of the periods. We introduce a novel fault-tolerant post-processing protocol that allows reconstruction of the correct time even in the presence of errors in the remainders.

Magnetic exchange coupled nonreciprocal devices for cryogenic memory

As computing power demands continue to grow, superconducting electronics present an opportunity to reduce power consumption by increasing the energy efficiency of digital logic and memory. A key milestone for scaling this technology is the development of efficient superconducting memories. Such devices should be nonvolatile, scalable to high integration density and memory capacity, enable fast and low-power reading and writing operations, and be compatible with the digital logic. We present a versatile device platform to develop such nonvolatile memory devices consisting of an exchange-coupled ultra-thin superconductor encapsulated between two ferromagnetic insulators (FIs). The superconducting exchange coupling, which is tuneable by the relative alignment between the FI magnetizations, enables the switching of superconductivity on and off. We exploit this mechanism to create a superconducting nonvolatile memory where single-cell writing is realized using heat-assisted magnetic recording, and explain how it can become a contender for state-of-the-art superconducting memories. Furthermore, below their critical temperatures, the memory elements show a marked nonreciprocity, with zero magnetic field superconducting diode efficiencies exceeding $\pm$60%, showing the versatility of the proposed devices for superconducting computing.

Enhanced Performance of FeFET Gate Stack via Heterogeneously co-doped Ferroelectric HfO$_2$ Films

In this work, we explore the impact of spatially controlled Zr and Al heterogeneous co-doping in HfO$_2$ thin films tailored for metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor (MFIS) gate stacks of ferroelectric field effect transistors (FeFETs). By precisely modulating the vertical arrangement of Zr and Al dopants during atomic layer deposition, we introduce deliberate compositional gradients that affect crystallization dynamics during subsequent annealing. This strategy enables us to systematically tune the phase evolution and domain nucleation within the ferroelectric layer, directly influencing device reliability and performance. From a structural perspective, our findings demonstrate that the phase composition of annealed HfO$_2$ films in MFIS stacks is primarily determined by the spatial arrangement of dopants. From an electrical perspective, we observe significant enhancement of remanent polarization and endurance of the gate stacks through heterogeneous co-doping, depending on the spatial arrangement of dopants.

Revealing the Influence of Dopants on the Properties of Fluorite Structure Ferroelectrics

Fluorite structure ferroelectrics, especially hafnium oxide, are widely investigated for their application in non-volatile memories, sensors, actuators, RF devices and energy harvesters. Due to the metastable nature of the ferroelectric phase in these materials, dopants and process parameters need to be optimized for its stabilization. Here, we present clear evidence of how dopants affect the properties in this material system and solutions to achieve improved reliability, desired crystallization behavior and polarization hysteresis shape/position through co-doping. Finally, the benefits of co-doping in a variety of application fields are demonstrated.

Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Weak-Lensing Mass Maps with a Sparsity Prior. II. Weighing Triaxial Cluster Halos

Continuing work presented in Li et al. (2021), we performed a series of tests to our high-resolution three-dimensional mass map reconstruction algorithm \splinv{}. We test the mass reconstruction accuracy against realistic mock catalogs generated using shear field produced by triaxial halos with the inner density profile of $ρ\propto r^{-1}$ and of $ρ\propto r^{-1.5}$. The galaxy shape noise is modeled based on the Year-1 Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Survey. After reviewing mathematical details of our algorithm and dark matter halo models, we determine an optimal value of the coefficient of the adaptive LASSO regression penalty term for single halo reconstruction. We successfully measure halo masses for massive triaxial halos; the mass determination accuracy is 5 percent for halos with $M = 10^{14.6}~M_\odot$ at $0.0625\leq z \leq 0.2425$, and 5 percent for those with $10^{14.8}~M_\odot$ at $0.0625\leq z \leq 0.4675$, and 20 percent for $M= 10^{15.0} ~M_\odot$ and $M=10^{15.2}~M_\odot$ in the redshift range $0.0625\leq z \leq 0.4675$. The redshift estimate accuracy is consistently below $Δz /z \leq 0.05$ for the above halo masses in the range $0.1525\leq z \leq 0.4675$. We also demonstrate that the orientation of triaxial halos and systematic error in our halo model do not affect reconstruction result significantly. Finally, we present results from reconstruction of mass distribution using shear catalogs produced by multiple halos, to show \splinv{}'s capability using realistic shear maps from ongoing and future galaxy surveys.

Using Physics Simulations to Find Targeting Strategies in Competitive Bowling

This article demonstrates a new approach to finding ideal bowling targeting strategies through computer simulation. To model bowling ball behaviour, a system of five coupled differential equations is derived using Euler equations for rigid body rotations. We used a computer program to demonstrate the phases of ball motion and output a plot that displays the optimum initial conditions that can lead to a strike. When the bowler is modeled to be imperfect, it is shown that some targeting strategies can lead to higher strike rates due to the miss room created by the inhomogeneity of the oil pattern.
