Growth-of-Structure Constraints on the Variable Chaplygin Gas Model

A unified description of dark matter and the late-time acceleration of the Universe offers an attractive framework for explaining the dark sector. Among such models, the Variable Chaplygin Gas (VCG) model provides a unified description but faces challenges, particularly in the evolution of cosmological perturbations. We investigate the evolution of linear density perturbations in the VCG model assuming adiabatic perturbations and constrain its parameters using recent $fσ_8$ growth measurements within a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) framework. Gaussian priors are adopted from our previous analysis of background observations, including Type Ia supernovae (Pantheon), baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), Hubble parameter $H(z)$ measurements, fast radio bursts (FRB), and gamma-ray bursts (GRB). We find that growth data favour a markedly different region of the parameter space than the background observations. In particular, the growth analysis prefers a substantially larger value of the model parameter $n$ ($n \simeq 2.3$) compared with the background constraint ($n \sim 1$). This tension indicates that parameter values providing an excellent fit to the background expansion fail to simultaneously reproduce the observed growth of cosmic structures. Our results demonstrate that growth-of-structure observations provide a stringent and independent test of unified dark sector models and underscore the importance of combining background and perturbation data when assessing the cosmological viability of the Variable Chaplygin Gas model.

Variable Chaplygin Gas: Constraints from Supernovae, BAO, Look Back Time, and GRBs

We examine the variable Chaplygin gas (VCG) model with the aim of establishing tight constraints by using type-Ia supernovae, lookback time measurements, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and the Gamma Ray Bursts. We report the parameter constraints obtained via statistical analysis of cosmic observables namely, luminosity distance, BAO distance and lookback time measurement

Prospects of probing quintessence with HI 21-cm intensity mapping survey

We investigate the prospect of constraining scalar field dark energy models using HI 21-cm intensity mapping surveys. We consider a wide class of coupled scalar field dark energy models whose predictions about the background cosmological evolution are different from the $Λ$CDM predictions by a few percent. We find that these models can be statistically distinguished from $Λ$CDM through their imprint on the 21-cm angular power spectrum. At the fiducial $z= 1.5$, corresponding to a radio interferometric observation of the post-reionization HI 21 cm observation at frequency $568 \rm MHz$, these models can infact be distinguished from the $Λ$CDM model at $ {\rm SNR }> 3 σ$ level using a 10,000 hr radio observation distributed over 40 pointings of a SKA1-mid like radio-telescope. We also show that tracker models are more likely to be ruled out in comparison with $Λ$CDM than the thawer models. Future radio observations can be instrumental in obtaining tighter constraints on the parameter space of dark energy models and supplement the bounds obtained from background studies.

Can structure formation distinguish ΛCDM from non-minimal f(R) Gravity?

Non-minimally coupled f(R) gravity model is an interesting approach to explain the late time acceleration of the Universe without introducing any exotic matter component in the energy budget of the Universe. But distinguishing such model with the concordance ΛCDM model using present observational data is a serious challenge. In this paper, we address this issue using the observations related to the growth of matter over density g(z) as measured by different galaxy surveys. As background cosmology is not sufficient to distinguish different dark energy models, we first find out the functional form for f(R) (which is non-minimally coupled to the matter lagrangian) that produces the similar background cosmology as in ΛCDM. Subsequently we calculate the growth for the matter over density g(z) for such non minimally coupled f(R) models and compare them with the ΛCDM Universe. We also use the measurements of g(z)σ_{8}(z) by different galaxy surveys to reconstruct the behavior for g(z) and σ_{8}(z) for both the non-minimally coupled f(R) gravity models as well as for the ΛCDM. Our results show that there is a small but finite window where one can distinguish the non-minimally coupled f(R) models with the concordance ΛCDM.

Thawing Versus. Tracker Behaviour: Observational Evidence

Currently there is a variety of scalar field models to explain the late time acceleration of the Universe. This includes the standard canonical and non-canonical scalar field models together with recently proposed Galileon scalar field models. One can divide all these scalar field models into two broad categories, namely the thawing and the tracker class. In this work we investigate the evidence for these models with the presently available observational data using the Bayesian approach. We use the Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG) parametrization for dark energy equation of state (EoS) as it gives rise to both the thawing and tracking behaviours for different values of the parameters. Analysis of the observational data does not give any clear evidence for either thawing or tracking behaviour within the context of background cosmology, However, if we consider the evolution of inhomogenities and analyze the data in this context then there is a significant evidence in favour of thawing behaviour.

Non-minimally coupled f(R) Cosmology

We investigate the consequences of non-minimal gravitational coupling to matter and study how it differs from the case of minimal coupling by choosing certain simple forms for the nature of coupling, The values of the parameters are specified at $z=0$ (present epoch) and the equations are evolved backwards to calculate the evolution of cosmological parameters. We find that the Hubble parameter evolves more slowly in non-minimal coupling case as compared to the minimal coupling case. In both the cases, the universe accelerates around present time, and enters the decelerating regime in the past. Using the latest Union2 dataset for supernova Type Ia observations as well as the data for baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) from SDSS observations, we constraint the parameters of Linder exponential model in the two different approaches. We find that there is a upper bound on model parameter in minimal coupling. But for non-minimal coupling case, there is range of allowed values for the model parameter.
