Bose-Fermi mixture in one-dimensional optical lattices with hard-core interactions

We study a mixture of $N_{b}$ bosons with point hard-core boson-boson interactions and $N_{f}$ noninteracting spinless fermions with point hard-core boson-fermion interactions in 1D optical lattice with external harmonic confine potential. Using an extended Jordan-Winger transformation (JWT) which maps the hard-core Bose-Fermi mixture into two component noninteracting spinless fermions with hard-core interactions between them, we get the ground states of the system. Then we determine in details the one particle density matrix, density profile, momentum distribution, the natural orbitals and their occupations based on the constructed ground state wavefunctions. We also discuss the ground state properties of the system with large but finite interactions which lead to the lift of ground degeneracy. Our results show that, although the total density profile is almost not affected, the distributions for bosons and fermions strongly depend on the relative strengthes of boson-boson interactions and boson-fermion interactions.

Exact solutions of a one-dimensional mixture of spinor bosons and spinor fermions

The exact solutions of a one-dimensional mixture of spinor bosons and spinor fermions with $δ$-function interactions are studied. Some new sets of Bethe ansatz equations are obtained by using the graded nest quantum inverse scattering method. Many interesting features appear in the system. For example, the wave function has the $SU(2|2)$ supersymmetry. It is also found that the ground state of the system is partial polarized, where the fermions form a spin singlet state and the bosons are totally polarized. From the solution of Bethe ansatz equations, it is shown that all the momentum, spin and isospin rapidities at the ground state are real if the interactions between the particles are repulsive; while the fermions form two-particle bounded states and the bosons form one large bound state, which means the bosons condensed at the zero momentum point, if the interactions are attractive. The charge, spin and isospin excitations are discussed in detail. The thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations are also derived and their solutions at some special cases are obtained analytically.

Ground-state properties of hard-core anyons in one-dimensional optical lattices

We investigate the ground-state properties of anyons confined in one-dimensional optical lattices with a weak harmonic trap using the exact numerical method based on Jordan-Wigner transformation. It is shown that in the Bose limit ($χ=1$) and Fermi limit ($χ=0$) the momentum distributions are symmetric but in between they are asymmetric. It turns out that the origin of asymmetry comes from the fractional statistics that anyons obey. The occupation distribution and the modulus of natural orbitals show crossover behaviours from the Bose limit to the Fermi limit.

Yang-Yang thermodynamics of Bose-Fermi Mixture

We investigate theoretically the behavior of a one-dimensional interacting Bose-Fermi mixture with equal masses and equal repulsive interactions between atoms at finite temperature in the scheme of thermodynamic Bethe ansatz. Combining the Yang-Yang thermodynamic formalism with local-density approximation in a harmonic trap, we calculate the density distribution of bosons and fermions numerically by treating the radially and axially excited states as discrete and continuous ones, respectively. Our result from exactly solvable solutions may be used as a touchstone for one-dimensional interacting Bose-Fermi mixture for experimental data fitting where mean-field theoretical approaches fail.

Quantum entanglement of particles on a ring with fractional statistics

In this paper we investigate the von Neumann entropy in the ground state of one-dimensional anyonic systems with the repulsive interaction. Based on the Bethe-ansatz method, the entanglement properties for the arbitrary statistical parameter ($0\leqκ\leq1$) are obtained from the one-particle reduced density matrix in the full interacting regime. It is shown that the entanglement entropy increases with the increase in the interaction strength and statistical parameter. The statistic parameter affects the entanglement properties from two aspects: renormalizing of the effective interaction strength and introducing an additional anyonic phase. We also evaluate the entanglement entropy of hard-core anyons for different statistical parameters in order to clarify solely the effect induced by the anyonic phase.

Density-functional theory of two-component Bose gases in one-dimensional harmonic traps

We investigate the ground-state properties of two-component Bose gases confined in one-dimensional harmonic traps in the scheme of density-functional theory. The density-functional calculations employ a Bethe-ansatz-based local-density approximation for the correlation energy, which accounts for the correlation effect properly in the full physical regime. For the binary Bose mixture with spin-independent interaction, the homogeneous reference system is exactly solvable by the Bethe-ansatz method. Within the local-density approximation, we determine the density distribution of each component and study its evolution from Bose distributions to Fermi-like distribution with the increase in interaction. For the binary mixture of Tonks-Girardeau gases with a tunable inter-species repulsion, with a generalized Bose-Fermi transformation we show that the Bose mixture can be mapped into a two-component Fermi gas, which corresponds to exact soluble Yang-Gaudin model for the homogeneous system. Based on the ground-state energy function of the Yang-Gaudin model, the ground-state density distributions are calculated for various inter-species interactions. It is shown that with the increase in inter-species interaction, the system exhibits composite-fermionization crossover.

Exact solution for infinitely strongly interacting Fermi gases in tight waveguides

We present an exact analytical solution of the fundamental systems of quasi-one-dimensional spin-1/2 fermions with infinite repulsion for arbitrary confining potential. The eigenfunctions are constructed by the combination of Gireardeau's hard-core contacting boundary condition and group theoretical method which guarantees the obtained states to be simultaneously the eigenstates of $S$ and $S_z$ and fulfill the antisymmetry under odd permutation. We show that the total ground-state density profile behaves like the polarized noninteracting fermions, whereas the spin-dependent densities display different properties for different spin configurations. We also discuss the splitting of the ground states for large but finite repulsion.

High-order fidelity and quantum phase transition for the Heisenberg chain with next-nearest-neighbor interaction

In this article, we study the high order term of the fidelity of the Heisenberg chain with next-nearest-neighbor interaction and analyze its connection with quantum phase transition of Beresinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless type happened in the system. We calculate the fidelity susceptibility of the system and find that although the phase transition point can't be well characterized by the fidelity susceptibility, it can be effectively picked out by the higher order of the ground-state fidelity for finite-size systems.

Ground-state properties of interacting two-component Bose gases in a hard-wall trap

We investigate ground-state properties of interacting two-component Bose gases in a hard-wall trap using both the Bethe ansatz and exact numerical diagonalization method. For equal intra- and inter-atomic interaction, the system is exactly solvable. Thus the exact ground state wavefunction and density distributions for the whole interacting regime can be obtained from the Bethe ansatz solutions. Since the ground state is a degenerate state with total spin S=N/2, the total density distribution are same for each degenerate state. The total density distribution evolves from a Gauss-like Bose distribution to a Fermi-like one as the repulsive interaction increases. The distribution of each component is N_i/N of the total density distribution. This is approximately true even in the experimental situation. In addition the numerical results show that with the increase of interspecies interaction the distributions of two Tonks-Girardeau gases exhibit composite fermionization crossover with each component developing N peaks in the strongly interacting regime.

Cavity-enhanced detection of magnetic orders in lattice spin models

We develop a general scheme for detecting spin correlations inside a two-component lattice gas of bosonic atoms, stimulated by the recent theoretical and experimental advances on analogous systems for a single component quantum gas. Within a linearized theory for the transmission spectra of the cavity mode field, different magnetic phases of a two-component (spin 1/2) lattice bosons become clearly distinguishable. In the Mott-insulating (MI) state with unit filling for the two-component lattice bosons, three different phases: antiferromagnetic, ferromagnetic, and the XY phases are found to be associated with drastically different cavity photon numbers. Our suggested study can be straightforwardly implemented with current cold atom experiments.

Ground-state properties of one-dimensional anyon gases

We investigate the ground state of the one-dimensional interacting anyonic system based on the exact Bethe ansatz solution for arbitrary coupling constant ($0\leq c\leq \infty$) and statistics parameter ($0\leq κ\leq π$). It is shown that the density of state in quasi-momentum $k$ space and the ground state energy are determined by the renormalized coupling constant $c'$. The effect induced by the statistics parameter $κ$ exhibits in the momentum distribution in two aspects: Besides the effect of renormalized coupling, the anyonic statistics results in the nonsymmetric momentum distribution when the statistics parameter $κ$ deviates from 0 (Bose statistics) and $π$ (Fermi statistics) for any coupling constant $c$. The momentum distribution evolves from a Bose distribution to a Fermi one as $κ$ varies from 0 to $π$. The asymmetric momentum distribution comes from the contribution of the imaginary part of the non-diagonal element of reduced density matrix, which is an odd function of $κ$. The peak at positive momentum will shift to negative momentum if $κ$ is negative.

Ground-state properties of interacting two-component Bose gases in a one-dimensional harmonic trap

We study ground-state properties of interacting two-component boson gases in a one-dimensional harmonic trap by using the exact numerical diagonalization method. Based on numerical solutions of many-body Hamiltonians, we calculate the ground-state density distributions in the whole interaction regime for different atomic number ratio, intra- and inter-atomic interactions. For the case with equal intra- and inter-atomic interactions, our results clearly display the evolution of density distributions from a Bose condensate distribution to a Fermi-like distribution with the increase of the repulsive interaction. Particularly, we compare our result in the strong interaction regime to the exact result in the infinitely repulsive limit which can be obtained by a generalized Bose-Fermi mapping. We also discuss the general case with different intra- and inter-atomic interactions and show the rich configurations of the density profiles.

Multiband effects on the conductivity for a multiband Hubbard model

The newly discovered iron-based superconductors have attracted lots of interests, and the corresponding theoretical studies suggest that the system should have six bands. In this paper, we study the multiband effects on the conductivity based on the exact solutions of one-dimensional two-band Hubbard model. We find that the orbital degree of freedom might enhance the critical value $U_c$ of on-site interaction of the transition from a metal to an insulator. This observation is helpful to understand why undoped High-$T_c$ superconductors are usually insulators, while recently discovered iron-based superconductors are metal. Our results imply that the orbital degree of freedom in the latter cases might play an essential role.

Magnetism of Cold Fermionic Atoms on p-Band of an Optical Lattice

We carry out \textit{ab initio} study of ground state phase diagram of spin-1/2 cold fermionic atoms within two-fold degenerate $p$-band of an anisotropic optical lattice. Using the Gutzwiller variational approach, we show that a robust ferromagnetic phase exists for a vast range of band fillings and interacting strengths. The ground state crosses over from spin density wave state to spin-1 Neel state at half filling. Additional harmonic trap will induce spatial separation of varies phases. We also discuss several relevant observable consequences and detection methods. Experimental test of the results reported here may shed some light on the long-standing issue of itinerant ferromagnetism.

Properties of A Class of Topological Phase Transition

The properties of a class of topological quantum phase transition (TQPT) are analyzed based on a model proposed by Haldane. We study the effect of finite temperature on this phase transition. We have found that finite temperature would drive this TQPT to be a crossover, while it is stable against the weak short range interaction. When the interaction is strong enough, however, this TQPT is unstable and other states would emerge. Then we investigate the effect of the on-site energy in the original haldane model. The critical difference between our TQPT and the topological phase transition in conventional quantum Hall system is discussed. Finally, we discuss the potential application of our analysis to a topological phase transition proposed in a realistic system.

Ground-state properties of few-Boson system in a one-dimensional hard wall potential with split

We carry out a detailed examination of the ground state property of few-boson system in a one-dimensional hard wall potential with a $δ-$ split in the center. In the Tonks-Girardeau limit with infinite repulsion between particles, we use the Bose-Fermi mapping to construct the exact $N-$ particle ground state wavefunction which allows us to study the correlation properties accurately. For the general case with finite inter-particle interaction, the exact diagonalization method is exploited to study the ground-state density distribution, occupation number distribution, and momentum distribution for variable interaction strengths and barrier heights. The secondary peaks in the momentum distribution reveal the interference between particles on the two sides of the split, which is more prominent for large barrier strength and small interaction strength.

Intrinsic relation between ground-state fidelity and the characterization of a quantum phase transition

The notion of fidelity in quantum information science has been recently applied to analyze quantum phase transitions from the viewpoint of the ground state (GS) overlap for various many-body systems. In this work, we unveil the intrinsic relation between the GS fidelity and the derivatives of GS energy and find that they play equivalent role in identifying the quantum phase transition. The general connection between the two approaches enables us to understand the different singularity and scaling behaviors of fidelity exhibited in various systems on general grounds. Our general conclusions are illustrated via several quantum spin models which exhibit different kinds of QPTs.

Quantum dynamics of repulsively bound atom pairs in the Bose-Hubbard model

We investigate the quantum dynamics of repulsively bound atom pairs in an optical lattice described by the periodic Bose-Hubbard model both analytically and numerically. In the strongly repulsive limit, we analytically study the dynamical problem by the perturbation method with the hopping terms treated as a perturbation. For a finite-size system, we numerically solve the dynamic problem in the whole regime of interaction by the exact diagonalization method. Our results show that the initially prepared atom pairs are dynamically stable and the dissociation of atom pairs is greatly suppressed when the strength of the on-site interaction is much greater than the tunneling amplitude, i.e., the strongly repulsive interaction induces a self-localization phenomenon of the atom pairs.
