Enhancing Large Language Models for Mobility Analytics with Semantic Location Tokenization

The widespread adoption of location-based services has led to the generation of vast amounts of mobility data, providing significant opportunities to model user movement dynamics within urban environments. Recent advancements have focused on adapting Large Language Models (LLMs) for mobility analytics. However, existing methods face two primary limitations: inadequate semantic representation of locations (i.e., discrete IDs) and insufficient modeling of mobility signals within LLMs (i.e., single templated instruction fine-tuning). To address these issues, we propose QT-Mob, a novel framework that significantly enhances LLMs for mobility analytics. QT-Mob introduces a location tokenization module that learns compact, semantically rich tokens to represent locations, preserving contextual information while ensuring compatibility with LLMs. Furthermore, QT-Mob incorporates a series of complementary fine-tuning objectives that align the learned tokens with the internal representations in LLMs, improving the model's comprehension of sequential movement patterns and location semantics. The proposed QT-Mob framework not only enhances LLMs' ability to interpret mobility data but also provides a more generalizable approach for various mobility analytics tasks. Experiments on three real-world dataset demonstrate the superior performance in both next-location prediction and mobility recovery tasks, outperforming existing deep learning and LLM-based methods.

FSHNet: Fully Sparse Hybrid Network for 3D Object Detection

Fully sparse 3D detectors have recently gained significant attention due to their efficiency in long-range detection. However, sparse 3D detectors extract features only from non-empty voxels, which impairs long-range interactions and causes the center feature missing. The former weakens the feature extraction capability, while the latter hinders network optimization. To address these challenges, we introduce the Fully Sparse Hybrid Network (FSHNet). FSHNet incorporates a proposed SlotFormer block to enhance the long-range feature extraction capability of existing sparse encoders. The SlotFormer divides sparse voxels using a slot partition approach, which, compared to traditional window partition, provides a larger receptive field. Additionally, we propose a dynamic sparse label assignment strategy to deeply optimize the network by providing more high-quality positive samples. To further enhance performance, we introduce a sparse upsampling module to refine downsampled voxels, preserving fine-grained details crucial for detecting small objects. Extensive experiments on the Waymo, nuScenes, and Argoverse2 benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of FSHNet. The code is available at https://github.com/Say2L/FSHNet.

Differentially Private Distributed Mismatch Tracking Algorithm for Constraint-Coupled Resource Allocation Problems

This paper considers privacy-concerned distributed constraint-coupled resource allocation problems over an undirected network, where each agent holds a private cost function and obtains the solution via only local communication. With privacy concerns, we mask the exchanged information with independent Laplace noise against a potential attacker with potential access to all network communications. We propose a differentially private distributed mismatch tracking algorithm (diff-DMAC) to achieve cost-optimal distribution of resources while preserving privacy. Adopting constant stepsizes, the linear convergence property of diff-DMAC in mean square is established under the standard assumptions of Lipschitz gradients and strong convexity. Moreover, it is theoretically proven that the proposed algorithm is ε-differentially private. And we also show the trade-off between convergence accuracy and privacy level. Finally, a numerical example is provided for verification.

Mixture-of-Experts for Personalized and Semantic-Aware Next Location Prediction

Next location prediction plays a critical role in understanding human mobility patterns. However, existing approaches face two core limitations: (1) they fall short in capturing the complex, multi-functional semantics of real-world locations; and (2) they lack the capacity to model heterogeneous behavioral dynamics across diverse user groups. To tackle these challenges, we introduce NextLocMoE, a novel framework built upon large language models (LLMs) and structured around a dual-level Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) design. Our architecture comprises two specialized modules: a Location Semantics MoE that operates at the embedding level to encode rich functional semantics of locations, and a Personalized MoE embedded within the Transformer backbone to dynamically adapt to individual user mobility patterns. In addition, we incorporate a history-aware routing mechanism that leverages long-term trajectory data to enhance expert selection and ensure prediction stability. Empirical evaluations across several real-world urban datasets show that NextLocMoE achieves superior performance in terms of predictive accuracy, cross-domain generalization, and interpretability

Revisiting the Li abundances of Stars with and without Detected Planets from the High Resolution Spectroscopy

Whether the presence of planets affects the lithium (Li) abundance of their host stars is still an open question. To investigate the difference of the Li abundance between planet-host stars (HS) and isolated stars (IS) with no detected planets, we analyze a large sample of stars with temperatures ranging from 4600 to 6600 K and metallicity ranging from -0.55 to +0.50. The sample consists of 279 HS whose spectra were taken from the California-Kepler Survey (CKS), which followed up planets detected by Kepler, and 171 IS whose spectra were taken from the Keck archive. The non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (non-LTE) effects were taken into consideration. It is found that the distribution of Li abundances in both the HS and IS groups are generally consistent with each other. This suggests that the presence of Kepler-like planets does not have a significant impact on Li depletion. We also found that the non-LTE corrections can not be neglected for stars with A(Li) over ~ 2.5 dex.

SURDS: Benchmarking Spatial Understanding and Reasoning in Driving Scenarios with Vision Language Models

Accurate spatial reasoning in outdoor environments - covering geometry, object pose, and inter-object relationships - is fundamental to downstream tasks such as mapping, motion forecasting, and high-level planning in autonomous driving. We introduce SURDS, a large-scale benchmark designed to systematically evaluate the spatial reasoning capabilities of vision language models (VLMs). Built on the nuScenes dataset, SURDS comprises 41,080 vision-question-answer training instances and 9,250 evaluation samples, spanning six spatial categories: orientation, depth estimation, pixel-level localization, pairwise distance, lateral ordering, and front-behind relations. We benchmark leading general-purpose VLMs, including GPT, Gemini, and Qwen, revealing persistent limitations in fine-grained spatial understanding. To address these deficiencies, we go beyond static evaluation and explore whether alignment techniques can improve spatial reasoning performance. Specifically, we propose a reinforcement learning-based alignment scheme leveraging spatially grounded reward signals - capturing both perception-level accuracy (location) and reasoning consistency (logic). We further incorporate final-answer correctness and output-format rewards to guide fine-grained policy adaptation. Our GRPO-aligned variant achieves an overall score of 40.80 in the SURDS benchmark. Notably, it outperforms proprietary systems such as GPT-4o (13.30) and Gemini-2.0-flash (35.71). To our best knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate that reinforcement learning-based alignment can significantly and consistently enhance the spatial reasoning capabilities of VLMs in real-world driving contexts. We release the SURDS benchmark, evaluation toolkit, and GRPO alignment code through: https://github.com/XiandaGuo/Drive-MLLM.

D3C2-Net: Dual-Domain Deep Convolutional Coding Network for Compressive Sensing

By mapping iterative optimization algorithms into neural networks (NNs), deep unfolding networks (DUNs) exhibit well-defined and interpretable structures and achieve remarkable success in the field of compressive sensing (CS). However, most existing DUNs solely rely on the image-domain unfolding, which restricts the information transmission capacity and reconstruction flexibility, leading to their loss of image details and unsatisfactory performance. To overcome these limitations, this paper develops a dual-domain optimization framework that combines the priors of (1) image- and (2) convolutional-coding-domains and offers generality to CS and other inverse imaging tasks. By converting this optimization framework into deep NN structures, we present a Dual-Domain Deep Convolutional Coding Network (D3C2-Net), which enjoys the ability to efficiently transmit high-capacity self-adaptive convolutional features across all its unfolded stages. Our theoretical analyses and experiments on simulated and real captured data, covering 2D and 3D natural, medical, and scientific signals, demonstrate the effectiveness, practicality, superior performance, and generalization ability of our method over other competing approaches and its significant potential in achieving a balance among accuracy, complexity, and interpretability. Detection for Intermediate-mass Binary Black Holes in Population III Star Clusters with TianQin

Context. Population III star clusters are predicted to form in unenriched dark matter halos. Direct N-body simulation of Pop III clusters implies the possible formation and merger of intermediate-mass binary black holes (IMBBHs). The gravitational wave signals could be detected by space-borne gravitational wave detectors like TianQin. Aims. This study evaluates the potential of TianQin in detecting IMBBHs from Pop III star clusters, focusing on key factors such as the detection horizon, detection number, and Fisher uncertainty. Methods. A Monte Carlo simulation is employed to derive IMBBH sources, utilizing the IMRPhenomD waveform model to simulate catalogs of observable IMBBH mergers. The mass and redshift distributions are derived from direct N-body simulations of IMBBHs in Population III star clusters. Detection numbers are determined by calculating the signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) of the simulated signals and applying thresholds for detection. Fisher uncertainty is obtained through Fisher information matrix analysis. Results. The findings suggest that TianQin could achieve detection numbers within 5 years ranging from 1 in the most pessimistic scenario to 253 in the most optimistic scenario. Furthermore, TianQin can precisely constrain the IMBBH mass with a relative uncertainty of $10^{-6}$, coalescence time $t_c$ within 1 second, and sky location $\barΩ_S$ within 1 $\rm{deg}^2$. However, the luminosity distance $D_L$ and inclination angle $ι$ exhibit substantial degeneracies, limiting their precise estimation.

LMMs-Eval: Reality Check on the Evaluation of Large Multimodal Models

The advances of large foundation models necessitate wide-coverage, low-cost, and zero-contamination benchmarks. Despite continuous exploration of language model evaluations, comprehensive studies on the evaluation of Large Multi-modal Models (LMMs) remain limited. In this work, we introduce LMMS-EVAL, a unified and standardized multimodal benchmark framework with over 50 tasks and more than 10 models to promote transparent and reproducible evaluations. Although LMMS-EVAL offers comprehensive coverage, we find it still falls short in achieving low cost and zero contamination. To approach this evaluation trilemma, we further introduce LMMS-EVAL LITE, a pruned evaluation toolkit that emphasizes both coverage and efficiency. Additionally, we present Multimodal LIVEBENCH that utilizes continuously updating news and online forums to assess models' generalization abilities in the wild, featuring a low-cost and zero-contamination evaluation approach. In summary, our work highlights the importance of considering the evaluation trilemma and provides practical solutions to navigate the trade-offs in evaluating large multi-modal models, paving the way for more effective and reliable benchmarking of LMMs. We opensource our codebase and maintain leaderboard of LIVEBENCH at https://github.com/EvolvingLMMs-Lab/lmms-eval and https://huggingface.co/spaces/lmms-lab/LiveBench.

Pair-Instability Gap Black Holes in Population III Star Clusters: Pathways, Dynamics, and Gravitational Wave Implications

The detection of the gravitational wave (GW) event GW190521 raises questions about the formation of black holes within the pair-instability mass gap (PIBHs). We propose that Population III (Pop III) star clusters significantly contribute to events similar to GW190521. We perform $N$-body simulations and find that PIBHs can form from stellar collisions or binary black hole (BBH) mergers, with the latter accounting for 90\% of the contributions. Due to GW recoil during BBH mergers, approximately 10-50% of PIBHs formed via BBH mergers escape from clusters, depending on black hole spins and cluster escape velocities. The remaining PIBHs can participate in secondary and multiple BBH formation events, contributing to GW events. Assuming Pop III stars form in massive clusters (initially 100,000 $M_\odot$) with a top-heavy initial mass function, the average merger rates for GW events involving PIBHs with 0% and 100% primordial binaries are $0.005$ and $0.017$ $\text{yr}^{-1} \text{Gpc}^{-3}$, respectively, with maximum values of $0.030$ and $0.106$ $\text{yr}^{-1} \text{Gpc}^{-3}$. If Pop III stars form in low-mass clusters (initial mass of $1000M_\odot$ and $10000 M_\odot$), the merger rate is comparable with a 100% primordial binary fraction but significantly lower without primordial binaries. We also calculate the characteristic strains of the GW events in our simulations and find that about 43.4% (LISA) 97.8% (Taiji) and 66.4% (Tianqin) of these events could potentially be detected by space-borne detectors, including LISA, Taiji, and TianQin. The next-generation GW detectors such as DECIGO, ET, and CE can nearly cover all these signals.

Multi-Component Ionized Gas Outflows in a Hot Dust-Obscured Galaxy W2026+0716 with Keck/OSIRIS

We present narrowband-filtered integral field unit (IFU) observations of the Hot Dust-Obscured Galaxy (Hot DOG) WISE J202615.27$+$071624.0 (hereafter W2026$+$0716) at redshift $z=2.570$ using Keck/OSIRIS. Our analysis reveals a multi-component ionized gas outflow structure in this heavily obscured AGN host galaxy. Multi-component Gaussian decomposition of the [O III] and H$α$ emission lines uncovers extremely broad and asymmetric profiles, characteristic of AGN-driven outflows. Kinematic mapping shows spatially distinct structures: the [O III] and H$α$ dominated components (with radii of $1.20 \pm 0.56$ kpc) are separated by a projected offset of $\sim 1.1$ kpc and exhibit divergent velocity regimes. The [O III] outflow reaches a velocity of 3210 $\pm$ 50 km s$^{-1}$, while the H$α$ outflow component attains 2310 $\pm$ 840 km s$^{-1}$. Dynamical modeling supports a biconical outflow structure, with [O III] and H$α$ emissions dominating separate cones and significant dust obscuration of the redshifted outflow. Their comparable momentum outflow rates and energy outflow rates suggest a potential physical connection in their driving mechanisms. Spectral energy distribution (SED) analysis reveals anomalous optical/UV excess, attributed to AGN photon scattering by dust or outflowing material, classifying W2026+0716 as a "Blue Hot DOG". The derived outflow timescale ($\sim10^{5}$ yr) aligns with the evolutionary phase of Blue Hot DOGs, suggesting AGN feedback operates persistently during this transitional stage.

Content-Distortion High-Order Interaction for Blind Image Quality Assessment

The content and distortion are widely recognized as the two primary factors affecting the visual quality of an image. While existing No-Reference Image Quality Assessment (NR-IQA) methods have modeled these factors, they fail to capture the complex interactions between content and distortions. This shortfall impairs their ability to accurately perceive quality. To confront this, we analyze the key properties required for interaction modeling and propose a robust NR-IQA approach termed CoDI-IQA (Content-Distortion high-order Interaction for NR-IQA), which aggregates local distortion and global content features within a hierarchical interaction framework. Specifically, a Progressive Perception Interaction Module (PPIM) is proposed to explicitly simulate how content and distortions independently and jointly influence image quality. By integrating internal interaction, coarse interaction, and fine interaction, it achieves high-order interaction modeling that allows the model to properly represent the underlying interaction patterns. To ensure sufficient interaction, multiple PPIMs are employed to hierarchically fuse multi-level content and distortion features at different granularities. We also tailor a training strategy suited for CoDI-IQA to maintain interaction stability. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method notably outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of prediction accuracy, data efficiency, and generalization ability.

The Mini-SiTian Array: first-two-year operation

The SiTian project, designed to utilize 60 telescopes distributed across multiple sites in China, is a next-generation time-domain survey initiative. As a pathfinder for the SiTian project, the Mini-SiTian (MST) has been proposed and implemented to test the SiTian's brain and data pipeline, and to evaluate the feasibility of its technology and science cases. Mounted at the Xinglong Observatory, the MST project comprises three 30 cm telescopes and has been operated since Nov. 2022. Each telescope of the MST possesses a large field of view, covering $2.29^{\circ}$ $\times$ $1.53^{\circ}$ FOV, and is equipped with $g'$, $r'$ and $i'$ filters, respectively. Acting as the pioneer of the forthcoming SiTian project, the MST is dedicated to the discovery of variable stars, transients, and outburst events, and has already obtained some interesting scientific results. In this paper, we will summarize the first-two-year operation of the MST project.

This paper proposes a highly scalable method for dynamic novel view synthesis with continual learning. We leverage the 3D Gaussians to represent the scene and a low-rank adaptation-based deformation model to capture the dynamic scene changes. Our method continuously reconstructs the dynamics with chunks of video frames, reduces the streaming bandwidth by $90\%$ while maintaining high rendering quality comparable to the off-line SOTA methods.

LEIA discovery of the longest-lasting and most energetic stellar X-ray flare ever detected

The Lobster Eye Imager for Astronomy (LEIA) detected a new X-ray transient on 2022 November 7, identified as a superflare event occurring on a nearby K-type giant star HD 251108. The flux increase was also detected in follow-up observations at X-ray, UV and optical wavelengths. The flare lasted for about 40 days in soft X-ray observations, reaching a peak luminosity of ~1.1 * 10^34 erg/s in 0.5-4.0 keV, which is roughly 60 times the quiescent luminosity. Optical brightening was observed for only one night. The X-ray light curve is well described by a double fast rise and exponential decay model, attributed to the cooling process of a loop arcade structure formed subsequent to the initial large loop with a half-length of ~1.9 * 10^12 cm. Time-resolved X-ray spectra were fitted by a four-temperature apec model (with three components being the quiescent background), showing significant evolution of plasma temperature and emission measure over time. The estimated energy released in the LEIA band is ~3 * 10^39 erg, suggesting that this is likely the most energetic X-ray stellar flare with the longest duration detected to date.

Ferromagnetic resonance and spin Hall magnetoresistance of Tm3Fe5O12 films

Ferromagnetic insulating garnet films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) are of great importance for the applications in spintronics. Tm3Fe5O12 (TmIG) with magnetoelastic anisotropy has been proven to exhibit PMA more easily than Y3Fe5O12. Here, magnetic parameters of TmIG films with various thicknesses are investigated by ferromagnetic resonance. The relationship between effective magnetic magnetization, surface perpendicular anisotropy field, magnetic anisotropy constants and film thickness is established. The parameters of spin Hall angle, spin diffusion length, and real part of the spin mixing conductance are obtained from the measurements of angular dependent magnetoresistance of TmIG/Pt heterostructures.

Angular dependent ferromagnetic resonance of exfoliated yttrium iron garnet film under stress

Yttrium iron garnet (Y3Fe5O12, YIG) plays a significant role in the field of spintronics due to its low magnetic damping and insulating characteristics. However, most studies have focused on YIG in bulk form or as film grown on rigid substrates. In this study, YIG film has been exfoliated from two-layer-graphene covered (111) Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG) substrate. Magnetic properties of YIG film under stress are investigated in detail via angular dependent ferromagnetic resonance. The relationship between magnetic parameters and compressive/tensile stress has been established. The findings of this work will be beneficial for the applications of flexible YIG film.

Ultralow-loss photonic integrated chips on 8-inch anomalous-dispersion Si$_3$N$_4$-SiO$_2$-Si Wafer

We report the fabrication of 8-inch crack-free, dispersion-engineered Si$_3$N$_4$-SiO$_2$-Si wafers fully compatible with industrial foundry silicon photonics fabrication lines. By combining these wafers with a developed amorphous silicon (a-Si) hardmask etching technique, we achieve ultra-low-loss Si$_3$N$_4$ photonic integrated circuits (PICs) with intrinsic quality factors exceeding $25 \times 10^6$ using electron beam lithography and $24 \times 10^6$ using standard ultraviolet stepper photolithography. Frequency-comb generation is demonstrated on these high-quality Si$_3$N$_4$ PICs, corroborating the designed anomalous dispersion. These results establish the feasibility of mass-manufacturing high-performance, dispersion-engineered Si$_3$N$_4$ PICs using standard foundry-grade processes, opening new pathways for applications in optical communications, nonlinear optics, and quantum optics.
