Truncated Hypergeometric Functions and Discretized Integrals

We introduce a kind of finite truncation of the hypergeometric series and provide its discretized integral representation. This is motivated by recent results of Maesaka-Seki-Watanabe and Hirose-Matsusaka-Seki on the identity between truncated series and discretized integrals which comes from the mutliple zeta values and multiple polylogarithms. We also prove the formula of Ohno-Zagier type which relates the truncated multiple polylogarithms and the truncated hypergeometric series.

A note on the second supplementary law of rational power residue symbols

As a natural generalization of the Legendre symbol, the $q$-th power residue symbol $(a/p)_q$ is defined for primes $p$ and $q$ with $p\equiv 1 \bmod q$. In this paper, we generalize the second supplementary law by providing an explicit condition for $(q/p)_q = 1$, when $p$ has a special form $p = \sum_{i=0}^{q-1} m^i n^{q-1-i}$. This condition is expressed in terms of the polylogarithm $\mathrm{Li}_{1-q}(x)$ of negative index. Our proof relies on an argument similar to Lemmermeyer's proof of Euler's conjectures for cubic residue.

On Interactions for Large Scale Interacting Systems

Statistical mechanics explains the properties of macroscopic phenomena based on the movements of microscopic particles such as atoms and molecules. Movements of microscopic particles can be represented by large-scale interacting systems. In this article, we study a combinatorial object which we call interactions, given as a symmetric directed graph representing the possible transition of states on adjacent sites of large-scale interacting systems. Such interactions underlie various standard processes such as the exclusion processes, generalized exclusion processes, multi-species exclusion processes, lattice-gas processes with energy, and the multi-lane particle processes. We introduce the notion of equivalences of interactions using their space of conserved quantities. This allows for the classification of interactions reflecting corresponding macroscopic properties. In particular, we prove that when the set of local states consists of two, three or four elements, then the number of equivalence classes of separable interactions are respectively one, two and five. We also define the wedge sums and box products of interactions, which give systematic methods for constructing new interactions from existing ones. Furthermore, we prove that the irreducibly quantified condition for interactions, which has implicitly played an important role in the theory of hydrodynamic limits, is preserved by wedge sums and box products. Our results provide a systematic method to construct and classify interactions, offering abundant examples suitable for considering hydrodynamic limits.

Interpolant of truncated multiple zeta functions

We introduce an analytic function $\Psi(s_1,\ldots,s_r;w)$ that interpolates truncated multiple zeta functions $\zeta_N(s_1,\ldots,s_r)$. We represent this interpolant as a Mellin transform of a function $G(q_1,\ldots,q_r;w)$ and, using this expression, give the analytic continuation. Further, the harmonic product relations for $\Psi$ and $G$ are established via relevant Hopf algebra structures, and some properties of the function $G$ are provided.

Some Remarks on Maesaka-Seki-Watanabe's Formula for the Multiple Harmonic Sums

Recently, Maesaka, Seki and Watanabe discovered a surprising equality between multiple harmonic sums and certain Riemann sums which approximate the iterated integral expression of the multiple zeta values. In this paper, we describe the formula corresponding to the multiple zeta-star values and, more generally, to the Schur multiple zeta values of diagonally constant indices. We also discuss the relationship of these formulas with Hoffman's duality identity and an identity due to Kawashima.

Sum formulas for Schur multiple zeta values

In this paper, we study sum formulas for Schur multiple zeta values and give a generalization of the sum formulas for multiple zeta(-star) values. We show that for ribbons of certain types, the sum over all admissible Young tableaux of this shape evaluates to a rational multiple of the Riemann zeta value. For arbitrary ribbons with $n$ corners, we show that these can be always expressed in terms of multiple zeta values of depth $\leq n$. In particular, when $n=2$, we give explicit, what we call, bounded type sum formulas for these ribbons. Finally, we show how to evaluate the sum over all admissible Young tableaux with exactly one corner and also prove bounded type sum formulas for them. This will also lead to relations among sums of Schur multiple zeta values over all admissible Young tableaux of different shapes.

The Hodge Realization of the Polylogarithm and the Shintani Generating Class for Totally Real Fields

In this article, we construct the Hodge realization of the polylogarithm class in the equivariant Deligne-Beilinson cohomology of a certain algebraic torus associated to a totally real field. We then prove that the de Rham realization of this polylogarithm gives the Shintani generating class, a cohomology class generating the values of the Lerch zeta functions of the totally real field at nonpositive integers. Inspired by this result, we give a conjecture concerning the specialization of this polylogarithm class at torsion points, and discuss its relation to the Beilinson conjecture for Hecke characters of totally real fields.

$p$-adic Polylogarithms and $p$-adic Hecke $L$-functions for Totally Real Fields

The purpose of this article is to newly define the $p$-adic polylogarithm as an equivariant class in the cohomology of a certain infinite disjoint union of algebraic tori associated to a totally real field. We will then express the special values of $p$-adic $L$-functions interpolating nonpositive values of Hecke $L$-functions of the totally real field in terms of special values of these $p$-adic polylogarithms.

Duality of one-variable multiple polylogarithms and their $q$-analogues

The duality relation of one-variable multiple polylogarithms was proved by Hirose, Iwaki, Sato and Tasaka by means of iterated integrals. In this paper, we give a new proof using the method of connected sums, which was recently invented by Seki and the author. Interestingly, the connected sum involves the hypergeometric function in its connector. Moreover, we introduce two kinds of $q$-analogues of the one-variable multiple polylogarithms and generalize the duality to them.

On the refined Kaneko-Zagier conjecture for general integer indices

The refined Kaneko-Zagier conjecture claims that the algebras spanned by two kinds of "completed" finite multiple zeta values, called $\hat{A}$- and $\hat{S}$-MZVs, are isomorphic. Recently, Komori defined $\hat{S}$-MZVs of general integer (i.e., not necessarily positive) indices, extending the existing definition for positive indices. In view of the refined Kaneko-Zagier conjecture, Komori's work suggests that these extended values are closely connected to $\hat{A}$-MZVs of general indices, which can be defined in an obvious way. In this paper, we show that the generalization of the refined Kaneko-Zagier conjecture for general integer indices is actually deduced from the conjecture for positive indices. The key ingredient is an inductive formula for $\hat{A}$-MZVs or $\hat{S}$-MZVs of indices which contain at least one non-positive entry.

Multiple zeta functions of Kaneko-Tsumura type and their values at positive integers

Kaneko and Tsumura introduced a new kind of multiple zeta functions $η(k_1,\ldots,k_r;s_1,\ldots,s_r)$. This is an analytic function of complex variables $s_1,\ldots,s_r$, while $k_1,\ldots,k_r$ are non-positive integer parameters. In this paper, we first extend this function to an analytic function $η(s'_1,\ldots,s'_r;s_1,\ldots,s_r)$ of $2r$ complex variables. Then we investigate its special values at positive integers. In particular, we prove some linear relations among these $η$-values and the multiple zeta values $ζ(k_1,\ldots,k_r)$ of Euler-Zagier type.

Truncated $t$-adic symmetric multiple zeta values and double shuffle relations

We study a refinement of the symmetric multiple zeta value, called the $t$-adic symmetric multiple zeta value, by considering its finite truncation. More precisely, two kinds of regularizations (harmonic and shuffle) give two kinds of the $t$-adic symmetric multiple zeta values, thus we introduce two kinds of truncations correspondingly. Then we show that our truncations tend to the corresponding $t$-adic symmetric multiple zeta values, and satisfy the harmonic and shuffle relations, respectively. This gives a new proof of the double shuffle relations for $t$-adic symmetric multiple zeta values, first proved by Jarossay. In order to prove the shuffle relation, we develop the theory of truncated $t$-adic symmetric multiple zeta values associated with $2$-colored rooted trees. Finally, we discuss a refinement of Kaneko-Zagier's conjecture and the $t$-adic symmetric multiple zeta values of Mordell-Tornheim type.

A generalized regularization theorem and Kawashima's relation for multiple zeta values

Kawashima's relation is conjecturally one of the largest classes of relations among multiple zeta values. Gaku Kawashima introduced and studied a certain Newton series, which we call the Kawashima function, and deduced his relation by establishing several properties of this function. We present a new approach to the Kawashima function without using Newton series. We first establish a generalization of the theory of regularizations of divergent multiple zeta values to Hurwitz type multiple zeta values, and then relate it to the Kawashima function. Via this connection, we can prove a key property of the Kawashima function to obtain Kawashima's relation.

Category of mixed plectic Hodge structures

The purpose of this article is to investigate the properties of the category of mixed plectic Hodge structures defined by Nekovář and Scholl. We give an equivalent description of mixed plectic Hodge structures in terms of the weight and partial Hodge filtrations. We also construct an explicit complex calculating the extension groups in this category.

Theory and Algorithms for Shapelet-based Multiple-Instance Learning

We propose a new formulation of Multiple-Instance Learning (MIL), in which a unit of data consists of a set of instances called a bag. The goal is to find a good classifier of bags based on the similarity with a "shapelet" (or pattern), where the similarity of a bag with a shapelet is the maximum similarity of instances in the bag. In previous work, some of the training instances are chosen as shapelets with no theoretical justification. In our formulation, we use all possible, and thus infinitely many shapelets, resulting in a richer class of classifiers. We show that the formulation is tractable, that is, it can be reduced through Linear Programming Boosting (LPBoost) to Difference of Convex (DC) programs of finite (actually polynomial) size. Our theoretical result also gives justification to the heuristics of some of the previous work. The time complexity of the proposed algorithm highly depends on the size of the set of all instances in the training sample. To apply to the data containing a large number of instances, we also propose a heuristic option of the algorithm without the loss of the theoretical guarantee. Our empirical study demonstrates that our algorithm uniformly works for Shapelet Learning tasks on time-series classification and various MIL tasks with comparable accuracy to the existing methods. Moreover, we show that the proposed heuristics allow us to achieve the result with reasonable computational time.

Canonical Equivariant Cohomology Classes Generating Zeta Values of Totally Real Fields

It is known that the special values at nonpositive integers of a Dirichlet $L$-function may be expressed using the generalized Bernoulli numbers, which are defined by a canonical generating function. The purpose of this article is to consider the generalization of this classical result to the case of Hecke $L$-functions of totally real fields. Hecke $L$-functions may be expressed canonically as a finite sum of zeta functions of Lerch type. By combining the non-canonical multivariable generating functions constructed by Shintani, we newly construct a canonical class, which we call the Shintani generating class, in the equivariant cohomology of an algebraic torus associated to the totally real field. Our main result states that the specializations at torsion points of the derivatives of the Shintani generating class give values at nonpositive integers of the zeta functions of Lerch type. This result gives the insight that the correct framework in the higher dimensional case is to consider higher equivariant cohomology classes instead of functions.

The Hodge realization of the polylogarithm on the product of multiplicative groups

The purpose of this article is to describe explicitly the polylogarithm class in absolute Hodge cohomology of a product of multiplicative groups, in terms of the Bloch-Wigner-Ramakrishnan polylogarithm functions. We will use the logarithmic Dolbeault complex defined by Burgos to calculate the corresponding absolute Hodge cohomology groups.
