Residues on Permanent Pinches: Finite Integrals and Leading Divergences

We study infrared (IR) divergences from the point of view of permanent pinches. We show how canceling permanent pinches allows us to form finite linear combinations of integrals. We further show how to compute scheme-independent leading IR divergences with- out introducing a regulator, by integrating certain residue forms along desingularizations of permanent pinch varieties. Our methods work for massless and mixed massive-massless inte- grals, for non-planar integrals with arbitrary numerators as well as for integrals with higher (integer) powers of propagators. We use this analysis to determine leading singular terms in some examples of box integrals. We further study examples of finite integrals at higher loops, and in particular provide a basis for finite non-evanescent integrals in a non-planar two-loop five-point topology.

Multi-Loop Negative Geometries

Scattering amplitudes in planar ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory are dual to expectation values of null polygonal Wilson loops. The Amplituhedron provides a geometric construction for the all-loop integrand as the canonical form on the geometric region in the Grassmannian defined by a certain set of inequalities. For a closely related object, the logarithm of the scattering amplitude, the integrand is reproduced in a similar way using negative geometries. When integrated over all loop momenta except one, the result is infrared (IR) finite and equal to the expectation value of a certain Wilson loop with a Lagrangian insertion. At four points, this quantity, ${\cal F}(g,z)$ only depends on a single cross ratio $z$ and the 't Hooft coupling $g$. At weak coupling, it is known up to three loops from perturbative Wilson loop computations and at strong coupling through the AdS/CFT correspondence at leading order. In this paper, we explore this object further through the lens of the Amplituhedron and negative geometries, which provide very natural IR finite building blocks. We perform an explicit three-loop computation of all negative geometries and show that the number of internal cycles in the diagram is closely linked to the depth of polylogarithms. We calculate the cusp anomalous dimension $Γ_{\rm cusp}$ by integrating ${\cal F}(g,z)$ over $z$. We show that the higher-cycle diagrams are suppressed if we consider separate odd and even zeta contributions. Furthermore, we focus on certain convergent infinite series of one-cycle diagrams, perform all-loop order resummations of such contributions, and discuss various features of the result.

Complete computation of all three-loop five-point massless planar integrals

We calculate all three-loop, five-point, massless planar Feynman integral families in the dimensional regularization scheme. This is a new milestone in Feynman integral computations. The analysis covers four distinct families of Feynman integrals for this configuration, for all of which we derive the canonical differential equations. Our results also confirm a prediction on the three-loop five-point alphabet. The boundary values are analytically determined. Using these differential equations, the integrals can be evaluated to high precision efficiently. Our work establishes the foundation for next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order (N$^3$LO) calculation of the production of three massless final states, as well as corresponding bootstrap studies in gauge theories.

Three-loop pentagonal Wilson loop with Lagrangian insertion

Employing a cutting-edge bootstrap method, we analytically compute the three-loop pentagonal Wilson loop with Lagrangian insertion in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory. This object is conjectured to coincide with the maximally transcendental part of the four-loop five-point all-plus amplitude in pure Yang-Mills theory. Our starting point is an ansatz that encodes the known leading singularities of this object, as well as the relevant function space. The latter has become available only recently, thanks to an analytic computation of all three-loop five-point planar massless Feynman integrals. We determine the coefficients in the ansatz by imposing physical constraints. This includes a near-collinear expansion, which so far has not been applied to this observable. Taken together, the constraints allow us to uniquely determine the symbol of the answer. We verify the symbol result by an independent integral reduction calculation.

Geometric Landau Analysis and Symbol Bootstrap

We investigate how the positive geometry framework for loop integrands in $\mathcal{N}{=}4$ super Yang-Mills theory constrains the structure of the integrated answers. This is done in the context of a geometric expansion of Wilson loops with a Lagrangian insertion, called negative geometries, extending ideas previously used for scattering amplitudes related to the Amplituhedron. The procedure we adopt combines the knowledge of all maximal codimension boundaries of the geometry, which characterize all possible leading singularities of the integral, with a geometrically informed Landau analysis. The interplay between geometry and Landau analysis arises from associating Landau diagrams to geometric boundaries. The boundary structure of the geometry then determines which solutions to the Landau equations are spurious and which ones are physical, that is, which singularities are actually present in the integral. This method allows us to efficiently determine the symbol alphabet of the associated integral, and serves as a starting point for the symbol bootstrap. We successfully implement this procedure and compute the six-point two-loop and five-point three-loop ladder negative geometries at the symbol level. We also present the conjectural alphabet for ladder negative geometries at two loops for all multiplicities. These are finite integrals that serve as building blocks for the Wilson loop with Lagrangian insertion, and therefore provide insights into the function space of the latter.

Positivity properties of five-point two-loop Wilson loops with Lagrangian insertion

In this paper we discuss the geometric integrand expansion of the five-point Wilson loop with one Lagrangian insertion in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We construct the integrand corresponding to an all-loop class of ladder-type geometries. We then investigate the known two-loop observable from this geometric viewpoint. To do so, we evaluate analytically the new two-loop integrals corresponding to the negative geometry contribution, using the canonical differential equations method. Inspecting the analytic result, we present numerical evidence that in this decomposition, each piece has uniform sign properties, when evaluated in the Amplituhedron region. Finally, we present an alternative bootstrap approach for the ladder-type geometries. We find that certain minimal bootstrap assumptions can be satisfied at two loops, but lead to a contradiction at three loops. This suggests to us that novel alphabet letters are required at this loop order. Indeed studying planar three-loop Feynman integrals, we do identify novel pentagon alphabet letters.

Non-planar integrated correlator in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM

Integrated correlator of four superconformal stress-tensor primaries in $SU(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills (SYM) theory in the perturbative limit takes a remarkably simple form, where the $L$-loop coefficient is given by a rational multiple of $ζ(2L+1)$. In this letter, we extend the previous analysis of expressing the perturbative integrated correlator as a linear combination of periods of $f$-graphs, graphical representations for loop integrands, to the non-planar sector at four loops. At this loop order, multiple zeta values make their first appearance when evaluating periods of non-planar $f$-graphs, but cancel non-trivially in the weighted sum. The remaining single zeta value, along with the rational number prefactor, makes a perfect agreement with the prediction from supersymmmetric localisation.

Higher-loop integrated negative geometries in ABJM

In the three-dimensional ${\cal N}=6$ Chern-Simons matter (ABJM) theory, the integrand for the logarithm of the scattering amplitude admits a decomposition in terms of negative geometries, which implies that all the infrared divergences concentrate in the last loop integration. We compute the infrared-finite functions that arise from performing a three-loop integration over the four-loop integrand for the logarithm of the four-point amplitude, for which we use the method of differential equations. Our results provide a direct computation of the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension of the theory, in agreement with the current all-loop integrability-based proposal. We find an apparent simplicity in the leading singularities of the integrated results, provided one works in the frame in which the unintegrated loop variable goes to infinity. Finally, our results suggest an alternating sign pattern for the integrated negative geometries in the Euclidean region.

Integrated negative geometries in ABJM

We study, in the context of the three-dimensional ${\cal N}=6$ Chern-Simons-matter (ABJM) theory, the infrared-finite functions that result from performing $L-1$ loop integrations over the $L$-loop integrand of the logarithm of the four-particle scattering amplitude. Our starting point are the integrands obtained from the recently proposed all-loop projected amplituhedron for the ABJM theory. Organizing them in terms of negative geometries ensures that no divergences occur upon integration if at least one loop variable is left unintegrated. We explicitly perform the integrations up to $L=3$, finding both parity-even and -odd terms. Moreover, we discuss a prescription to compute the cusp anomalous dimension $Γ_{\rm cusp}$ of ABJM in terms of the integrated negative geometries, and we use it to reproduce the first non-trivial order of $Γ_{\rm cusp}$. Finally, we show that the leading singularities that characterize the integrated results are conformally invariant.

Integrated correlators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills and periods

We study perturbative aspects of recently proposed integrated four-point correlators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills with all classical gauge groups using standard Feynman diagram computations. We argue that perturbative contributions of the integrated correlators are given by linear combinations of periods of certain conformal Feynman graphs, which were originally introduced for the construction of perturbative loop integrands of the un-integrated correlator. This observation allows us to evaluate the integrated correlators to high loop orders. We explicitly compute one of the integrated correlators up to four loops in the planar limit, and up to three loops for the other integrated correlator, and find agreement with the results obtained from supersymmetric localisation. The identification between the integrated correlators and certain periods also implies non-trivial relations among these periods, given that one may compute the integrated correlators using localisation. We illustrate this idea by considering one of the integrated correlators at five loops in the planar limit, where the localisation result leads to a prediction for the period of a certain six-loop integral.

The orthogonal momentum amplituhedron and ABJM amplitudes

In this paper, we introduce the momentum space amplituhedron for tree-level scattering amplitudes of ABJM theory. We demonstrate that the scattering amplitude can be identified as the canonical form on the space given by the product of positive orthogonal Grassmannian and the moment curve. The co-dimension one boundaries of this space are simply the odd-particle planar Mandelstam variables, while the even-particle counterparts are "hidden" as higher co-dimension boundaries. Remarkably, this space can be equally defined through a series of "sign flip" requirements of the projected external data, identical to "half" of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory (sYM). Thus in a precise sense the geometry for ABJM lives on the boundary of $\mathcal{N}=4$ sYM. We verify this relation through eight-points by showing that the BCFW triangulation of the amplitude tiles the amplituhedron. The canonical form is naturally derived using the Grassmannian formula for the amplitude in the $\mathcal{N}=4$ formalism for ABJM theory.

Notes on gravity multiplet correlators in $AdS_3 \times S^3$

We present a compact formula in Mellin space for the four-point tree-level holographic correlators of chiral primary operators of arbitrary conformal weights in $(2,0)$ supergravity on $AdS_3 \times S^3$, with two operators in tensor multiplet and the other two in gravity multiplet. This is achieved by solving the recursion relation arising from a hidden six-dimensional conformal symmetry. We note the compact expression is obtained after carefully analysing the analytic structures of the correlators. Various limits of the correlators are studied, including the maximally R-symmetry violating limit and flat-space limit.

D3-Brane Loop Amplitudes from M5-Brane Tree Amplitudes

We study loop corrections to scattering amplitudes in the world-volume theory of a probe D3-brane, which is described by the supersymmetric Dirac-Born-Infeld theory. We show that the D3-brane loop superamplitudes can be obtained from the tree-level superamplitudes in the world-volume theory of a probe M5-brane (or D5-brane). The M5-brane theory describes self-interactions of an abelian tensor supermultiplet with $(2,0)$ supersymmetry, and the tree-level superamplitudes are given by a twistor formula. We apply the construction to the maximally-helicity-violating (MHV) amplitudes in the D3-brane theory at one-loop order, which are purely rational terms (except for the four-point amplitude). The results are further confirmed by generalised unitarity methods. Through a supersymmetry reduction on the M5-brane tree-level superamplitudes, we also construct one-loop corrections to the non-supersymmetric D3-brane amplitudes, which agree with the known results in the literature.

All Tree Amplitudes of 6D $(2,0)$ Supergravity: Interacting Tensor Multiplets and the $K3$ Moduli Space

We present a twistor-like formula for the complete tree-level S matrix of 6D $(2,0)$ supergravity coupled to $21$ abelian tensor multiplets. This is the low-energy effective theory that corresponds to Type IIB superstring theory compactified on a $\mathrm{K}3$ surface. The formula is expressed as an integral over the moduli space of certain rational maps of the punctured Riemann sphere. By studying soft limits of the formula, we are able to explore the local moduli space of this theory, ${SO(5,21)\over SO(5)\times SO(21)}$. Finally, by dimensional reduction, we also obtain a new formula for the tree-level S matrix of 4D $\mathcal{N}=4$ Einstein-Maxwell theory.

Infinite Soft Theorems from Gauge Symmetry

In this letter we show that the soft behaviour of photons and graviton amplitudes, after projection, can be determined to infinite order in soft expansion via ordinary on-shell gauge invariance. In particular, as one of the particle's momenta becomes soft, gauge invariance relates the non-singular diagrams of an n-point amplitude to that of the singular ones up to possible homogeneous terms. We demonstrate that with a particular projection of the soft-limit, the homogeneous terms do not contribute, and one arrives at an infinite soft theorem. This reproduces the result recently derived from the Ward identity of large gauge transformations. We also discuss the modification of these soft theorems due to the presence of higher-dimensional operators.

On the Symmetry Foundation of Double Soft Theorems

Double-soft theorems, like its single-soft counterparts, arises from the underlying symmetry principles that constrain the interactions of massless particles. While single soft theorems can be derived in a non-perturbative fashion by employing current algebras, recent attempts of extending such an approach to known double soft theorems has been met with difficulties. In this work, we have traced the difficulty to two inequivalent expansion schemes, depending on whether the soft limit is taken asymmetrically or symmetrically, which we denote as type A and B respectively. We show that soft-behaviour for type A scheme can simply be derived from single soft theorems, and are thus non-preturbatively protected. For type B, the information of the four-point vertex is required to determine the corresponding soft theorems, and thus are in general not protected. This argument can be readily extended to general multi-soft theorems. We also ask whether unitarity can be emergent from locality together with the two kinds of soft theorems, which has not been fully investigated before.
