Three-dimensional reddening maps of the Magellanic Clouds constructed by RR Lyrae stars

We present the first three-dimensional reddening maps of the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC) constructed using fundamental-mode RR Lyrae stars from the OGLE-IV survey. By applying a period-amplitude-color relation and a period-luminosity-metallicity calibration in the OGLE photometric system, we derive intrinsic colors, color excess $E(V-I)$, and photometric distances for more than 20,000 RRab stars in the LMC and 3,000 in the SMC. Spatial variations in reddening are modeled using an adaptive quadtree scheme, where robust reddening-distance relations are fit within each partition and distances are iteratively updated to achieve self-consistency. The resulting maps reveal resolved dust structures across both galaxies, including steep reddening gradients in the central LMC and flatter profiles in the SMC. The construction of the three-dimensional reddening maps further reveals that high-extinction regions exhibit reddening behavior inconsistent with a uniform extinction law, implying localized variations in dust properties. The final maps comprise 205 partitions for the LMC and 67 partitions for the SMC, and are released together with a Python-based query tool and GeoJSON data products. These 3D maps provide a foundation for distance-dependent reddening corrections and for probing the structure and physical conditions of the Magellanic interstellar medium, and future high-precision and cadence RR Lyrae sample from Gaia DR4 will support higher-resolution mapping and deeper exploration of dust substructure.

The Mini-SiTian Array: Imaging Processing Pipeline

As a pathfinder of the SiTian project, the Mini-SiTian (MST) array, employed three commercial CMOS cameras, represents a next-generation, cost-effective optical time-domain survey project. This paper focuses primarily on the precise data processing pipeline designed for wide-field, CMOS-based devices, including the removal of instrumental effects, astrometry, photometry, and flux calibration. When applying this pipeline to approximately 3000 observations taken in the Field 02 (f02) region by MST, the results demonstrate a remarkable astrometric precision of approximately 70--80\,mas (about 0.1\,pixel), an impressive calibration accuracy of approximately 1\,mmag in the MST zero points, and a photometric accuracy of about 4\,mmag for bright stars. Our studies demonstrate that MST CMOS can achieve photometric accuracy comparable to that of CCDs, highlighting the feasibility of large-scale CMOS-based optical time-domain surveys and their potential applications for cost optimization in future large-scale time-domain surveys, like the SiTian project.

Photometric-Metallicity and Distance Estimates for $\sim$70,000 RR Lyrae Stars from the Zwicky Transient Facility

Utilizing Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) data and existing RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) catalogs, this study achieves the first calibration of the $P - ϕ_{31} - R_{21} - \text{[Fe/H]}$ and $P-ϕ_{31}-A_{2}-A_{1}-\text{[Fe/H]}$ relations in the ZTF photometric system for RRab and RRc stars. We also re-calibrate the period-absolute magnitude-metallicity (PMZ) and period-Wesenheit-metallicity (PWZ) relations in the ZTF $gri$-bands for RRab and RRc stars. Based on nearly 4100 stars with precise measurements of $P$, $ϕ_{31}$, $A_{2}$, and $A_{1}$, and available spectroscopic-metallicity estimates, the photometric-metallicity relations exhibit strong internal consistency across different bands, supporting the use of a weighted averaging method for the final estimates. The photometric-metallicity estimates of globular clusters based on RR Lyrae members also show excellent agreement with high-resolution spectroscopic measurements, with typical scatter of 0.15 dex for RRab stars and 0.14 dex for RRc stars, respectively. Using hundreds of local RRLs with newly derived photometric metallicities and precise Gaia Data Release 3 parallaxes, we establish the PMZ and PWZ relations in multiple bands. Validation with globular cluster RR Lyrae members reveals typical distance errors of 3.1% and 3.0% for the PMZ relations, and 3.1% and 2.6% for the PWZ relations for RRab and RRc stars, respectively. Compared to PMZ relations, the PWZ relations are tighter and almost unbiased, making them the recommended choice for distance calculations. We present a catalog of 73,795 RRLs with precise photometric metallicities; over 95% of them have accurate distance measurements. Compared to Gaia DR3, approximately 25,000 RRLs have precise photometric metallicities and distances derived for the first time.
