A New Framework for Multi-Line Analysis Combined Kernel PCA and Kernel SHAP: A Case of NGC 1068 ALMA Band 3 Data

We present a new framework for multi-line analysis that combines kernel principal component analysis (Kernel PCA), an unsupervised machine-learning method, and Kernel SHapley Additive exPlanations (Kernel SHAP), an explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) technique. To enable a comparison with PCA-based studies, which have been widely used in multi-line analyses, we apply our framework to integrated intensity maps of 13 molecular lines from Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Band 3 archival data of the nearby galaxy NGC 1068. Previous PCA-based studies of NGC 1068 reported that physically meaningful structures are mainly captured up to the second component. In contrast, our framework can interpret physically meaningful features up to the fourth component. Furthermore, by comparing the results obtained from our framework with molecular column densities derived from local thermodynamical equilibrium (LTE) analysis, we suggest that the abundance of HCO+ is relatively enhanced in the molecular outflow region extending to a radius of about 400 pc from the galactic center, likely due to the effects of ultraviolet radiation and highly dense gas. These results show that our framework can provide data-driven insights into physical and chemical features that have not been clearly identified in previous studies. It also provides an efficient tool for interpreting the rapidly increasing amount of multi-line observational data.

Detailed analysis of multi-line molecular distributions in the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068: Possible effect of the AGN outflow to the starburst ring

We apply principal component analysis (PCA) to the integrated intensity maps of 13 molecular lines of the nearby type-2 Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068 obtained by Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) to objectively visualize the features of its center, (1) within a radius of about 2 kpc ($\sim$ 27".5; hereafter the "overall region") and (2) the ring shaped starburst region between 750 pc ($\sim$ 10") and 2 kpc ($\sim$ 27".5) of the galaxy (hereafter the "SB ring region"). PCA is a powerful unsupervised machine learning technique that extracts key information through dimensionality reduction. The PCA results for the overall region have a possibility to reconstruct a map representing the approximate H$_2$ column density and difference of volume density and/or chemical composition between the circumnuclear disk (CND) and the starburst ring (SB ring). Additionally, the PCA results for the SB ring region have a possibility to reconstruct a map representing the approximate H$_2$ column density and distinction between starburst dominated region and shock dominated region. Furthermore, the PCA results for the SB ring region indicate a possible interaction between the Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) outflow and gas in the SB ring. Although further investigation is required, we suggest that the AGN outflow interacts with gas in the SB ring, as this feature is consistent with the direction of the AGN outflow and is contributed by CN, C$_2$H and HCN, which are known to be enhanced by the AGN outflow. These results demonstrate that PCA can effectively extract features even for galaxies with complex structures, such as AGN + SB ring. This study also implies that PCA has the potential to uncover previously unrecognized phenomena by visualizing latent structures in multi-line data.

Measuring 60-pc-scale Star Formation Rate of the Nearby Seyfert Galaxy NGC 1068 with ALMA, HST, VLT/MUSE, and VLA

Star formation rate (SFR) is a fundamental parameter for describing galaxies and inferring their evolutionary course. HII regions yield the best measure of instantaneous SFR in galaxies, although the derived SFR can have large uncertainties depending on tracers and assumptions. We present an SFR calibration for the entire molecular gas disk of the nearby Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068, based on our new high-sensitivity ALMA 100GHz continuum data at 55pc (=0."8) resolution in combination with the HST Paα line data. In this calibration, we account for the spatial variations of dust extinction, electron temperature of HII regions, AGN contamination, and diffuse ionized gas (DIG) based on publicly available multi-wavelength data. Especially, given the extended nature and the possible non-negligible contribution to the total SFR, a careful consideration of DIG is essential. With a cross-calibration between two corrected ionized gas tracers (free-free continuum&Paα), the total SFR of the NGC 1068 disk is estimated to be 3.2\pm0.5 Msol/yr, one-third of the SFR without accounting for DIG (9.1\pm1.4 Msol/yr). We confirmed high SFR around the southern bar-end and the corotation radius, which is consistent with the previous SFR measurements. In addition, our total SFR exceeds the total SFR based on 8μm dust emission by a factor of 1.5. We attribute this discrepancy to the differences in the young stars at different stages of evolution traced by each tracer and their respective timescales. This study provides an example to address the various uncertainties in conventional SFR measurements and their potential to lead to significant SFR miscalculations.

The ALCHEMI atlas: principal component analysis reveals starburst evolution in NGC 253

Molecular lines are powerful diagnostics of the physical and chemical properties of the interstellar medium (ISM). These ISM properties, which affect future star formation, are expected to differ in starburst galaxies from those of more quiescent galaxies. We investigate the ISM properties in the central molecular zone of the nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253 using the ultra-wide millimeter spectral scan survey from the ALMA Large Program ALCHEMI. We present an atlas of velocity-integrated images at a 1".6 resolution of 148 unblended transitions from 44 species, including the first extragalactic detection of HCNH$^+$ and the first interferometric images of C$_3$H$^+$, NO, HCS$^+$. We conduct a principal component analysis (PCA) on these images to extract correlated chemical species and to identify key groups of diagnostic transitions. To the best of our knowledge, our dataset is currently the largest astronomical set of molecular lines to which PCA has been applied. The PCA can categorize transitions coming from different physical components in NGC 253 such as i) young starburst tracers characterized by high-excitation transitions of HC$_3$N and complex organic molecules (COMs) versus tracers of on-going star formation (radio recombination lines) and high-excitation transitions of CCH and CN tracing PDRs, ii) tracers of cloud-collision-induced shocks (low-excitation transitions of CH$_3$OH, HNCO, HOCO$^+$, and OCS) versus shocks from star-formation-induced outflows (high-excitation transitions of SiO), as well as iii) outflows showing emission from HOC$^+$, CCH, H$_3$O$^+$, CO isotopologues, HCN, HCO$^+$, CS, and CN. Our findings show these intensities vary with galactic dynamics, star formation activities, and stellar feedback.

Molecular Abundance of the Circumnuclear Region Surrounding an Active Galactic Nucleus in NGC 1068 based on Imaging Line Survey in the 3-mm Band with ALMA

We present an imaging molecular line survey in the 3-mm band (85-114 GHz) focused on one of the nearest galaxies with an active galactic nucleus (AGN), NGC 1068, based on observations taken with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Distributions of 23 molecular transitions are obtained in the central ~3 kpc region, including both the circumnuclear disk (CND) and starburst ring (SBR) with 60 and 350 pc resolution. The column densities and relative abundances of all the detected molecules are estimated under the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium in the CND and SBR. Then, we discuss the physical and chemical effects of the AGN on molecular abundance corresponding to the observation scale. We found that H13CN, SiO, HCN, and H13CO+ are abundant in the CND relative to the SBR. In contrast, 13CO is more abundant in the SBR. Based on the calculated column density ratios of N(HCN)/N(HCO+), N(HCN)/N(CN), and other molecular distributions, we conclude that the enhancement of HCN in the CND may be due to high-temperature environments resulting from strong shocks, which are traced by the SiO emission. Moreover, the abundance of CN in the CND is significantly lower than the expected value of the model calculations in the region affected by strong radiation. The expected strong X-ray irradiation from the AGN has a relatively lower impact on the molecular abundance in the CND than mechanical feedback.

AGN-driven Cold Gas Outflow of NGC 1068 Characterized by Dissociation-Sensitive Molecules

Recent developments in (sub-)millimeter facilities have drastically changed the amount of information obtained from extragalactic spectral scans. In this paper, we present a feature extraction technique using principal component analysis (PCA) applied to arcsecond-resolution (1.0-2.0 arcsec = 72-144 pc) spectral scan datasets for the nearby type-2 Seyfert galaxy, NGC 1068, using Band 3 of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. We apply PCA to 16 well-detected molecular line intensity maps convolved to a common 150 pc resolution. In addition, we include the [SIII]/[SII] line ratio and [CI] $^3P_1$-$^3P_0$ maps in the literature, both of whose distributions show remarkable resemblance with that of a kpc-scale biconical outflow from the central AGN. We identify two prominent features: (1) central concentration at the circumnuclear disk (CND) and (2) two peaks across the center that coincide with the biconical outflow peaks. The concentrated molecular lines in the CND are mostly high-dipole molecules (e.g., H$^{13}$CN, HC$_3$N, and HCN). Line emissions from molecules known to be enhanced in irradiated interstellar medium, CN, C$_2$H, and HNC, show similar concentrations and extended components along the bicone, suggesting that molecule dissociation is a dominant chemical effect of the cold molecular outflow of this galaxy. Although further investigation should be made, this scenario is consistent with the faintness or absence of the emission lines from CO isotopologues, CH$_3$OH, and N$_2$H$^+$, in the outflow, which are easily destroyed by dissociating photons and electrons.

The Kiloparsec-scale Neutral Atomic Carbon Outflow in the Nearby Type-2 Seyfert Galaxy NGC 1068: Evidence for Negative AGN Feedback

Active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback is postulated as a key mechanism for regulating star formation within galaxies. Studying the physical properties of the outflowing gas from AGN is thus crucial for understanding the co-evolution of galaxies and supermassive black holes. Here we report 55 pc resolution ALMA neutral atomic carbon [CI] $^3P_1\text{-}^3P_0$ observations toward the central 1 kpc of the nearby type-2 Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068, supplemented by 55 pc resolution CO($J=1\text{-}0$) observations. We find that [CI] emission within the central kpc is strongly enhanced by a factor of $>$5 compared to the typical [CI]/CO intensity ratio of $\sim$0.2 for nearby starburst galaxies (in units of brightness temperature). The most [CI]-enhanced gas (ratio $>$ 1) exhibits a kpc-scale elongated structure centered at the AGN that matches the known biconical ionized gas outflow entraining molecular gas in the disk. A truncated, decelerating bicone model explains well the kinematics of the elongated structure, indicating that the [CI] enhancement is predominantly driven by the interaction between the ISM in the disk and the highly inclined ionized gas outflow (which is likely driven by the radio jet). Our results strongly favor the "CO dissociation scenario" rather than the "in-situ C formation" one which prefers a perfect bicone geometry. We suggest that the high [CI]/CO intensity ratio gas in NGC 1068 directly traces ISM in the disk that is currently dissociated and entrained by the jet and the outflow, i.e., the "negative" effect of the AGN feedback.

ALMA Observations of Multiple-CO and C Lines Toward the Active Galactic Nucleus of NGC 7469: X-Ray-dominated Region Caught in the Act

We used the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) to map $^{12}$CO($J$ = 1-0), $^{12}$CO($J$ = 2-1), $^{12}$CO($J$ = 3-2), $^{13}$CO($J$ = 2-1), and [CI]($^3P_1$-$^3P_0$) emission lines around the type 1 active galactic nucleus (AGN) of NGC 7469 ($z = 0.0164$) at $\sim 100$ pc resolutions. The CO lines are bright both in the circumnuclear disk (central $\sim 300$ pc) and the surrounding starburst (SB) ring ($\sim 1$ kpc diameter), with two bright peaks on either side of the AGN. By contrast, the [CI]($^3P_1$-$^3P_0$) line is strongly peaked on the AGN. Consequently, the brightness temperature ratio of [CI]($^3P_1$-$^3P_0$) to $^{13}$CO(2-1) is $\sim 20$ at the AGN, as compared to $\sim 2$ in the SB ring. Our local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) and non-LTE models indicate that the enhanced line ratios (or CI enhancement) are due to an elevated C$^0$/CO abundance ratio ($\sim 3-10$) and temperature ($\sim 100-500$ K) around the AGN as compared to the SB ring (abundance ratio $\sim 1$, temperature $\lesssim 100$ K), which accords with the picture of the X-ray-dominated Region (XDR). Based on dynamical modelings, we also provide CO(1-0)-to- and [CI]($^3P_1$-$^3P_0$)-to-molecular mass conversion factors at the central $\sim 100$ pc of this AGN as $α_{\rm CO} = 4.1$ and $α_{\rm CI} = 4.4~M_\odot$ (K km s$^{-1}$ pc$^2$)$^{-1}$, respectively. Our results suggest that the CI enhancement is potentially a good marker of AGNs that could be used in a new submillimeter diagnostic method toward dusty environments.

Observations and Analysis of Absorption Lines including J = K Rotational Levels of CH3CN: The Envelope of Sagittarius B2(M)

Molecules in diffuse and translucent clouds experience cooling as a result of radiation and less excitation from collisions. However, a rotation around a molecular axis of acetonitrile, CH3CN, cannot be cooled by radiation, causing rotational populations to concentrate at the J = K levels. We aim to search for absorption lines of CH3CN having J = K level concentrations in diffuse and translucent clouds. The JK = 43-33 transition at 73.6 GHz was investigated toward Sgr B2(M) in the Galactic Center region and other sources, using the Nobeyama 45 m telescope. Based on the detected absorption lines toward Sgr B2(M), a radiation temperature of 2.8 +/- 0.5 K, kinetic temperature of 88 +/- 29 K, and column density of (1.35 +/- 0.14) x 10^14 cm-2 were derived for this molecule, revealing extremely concentrated J = K levels due to the lower excitation temperature and the higher kinetic temperature. The absorption lines occurred at a velocity of 64 km s-1. The results confirm that CH3CN with J = K level concentrations exists in the envelope of Sgr B2(M).

A molecular line survey toward the nearby galaxies NGC 1068, NGC 253, and IC 342 at 3 mm with the Nobeyama 45 m radio telescope: The data

We present observational data of a molecular line survey toward the nearby galaxies NGC 1068, NGC 253, and IC 342 at the wavelengths of 3 mm ($\sim$85--116 GHz) obtained with the Nobeyama 45 m radio telescope. In IC 342 the line survey with high spectral resolution at the 3 mm region was reported for the first time. NGC 1068 is a nearby gas-rich galaxy with X-rays from an active galactic nucleus (AGN), and NGC 253 and IC 342 are nearby gas-rich galaxies with prototypical starbursts. These galaxies are useful to study the impacts of X-rays and ultraviolet radiation on molecular abundances. The survey was carried out with the resulting rms noise level of a few mK ($T\rm{_A^*}$). As a result we could obtain almost complete data of these galaxies at the 3 mm region: We detected 19--23 molecular species depending on the galaxies including several new detections (e.g., cyclic-C$_3$H$_2$ in IC 342). We found that the intensities of HCN, CN, and HC$_3$N relative to $^{13}$CO are significantly strong in NGC 1068 compared to those in NGC 253 and IC 342. On the other hand, CH$_3$CCH was not detected in NGC 1068. We obtained these results with the narrow beam (15$''$.2--19$''$.1) of the 45 m telescope among the single-dish telescopes, and in particular selectively observed the molecular gas close to the circumnuclear disk (CND) in NGC 1068. Our line intensities in NGC 1068 were compared to those obtained with the IRAM 30 m radio telescope already reported. As a result, the intensity ratio of each line was found to have information on the spatial distribution. Our observations obtained the line intensities and stringent constraints on the upper limit for the three galaxies with such narrow beam, and consequently, the data will be a basis for further observations with high spatial resolution.

An unbiased spectral line survey observation toward the low-mass star-forming region L1527

An unbiased spectral line survey toward a solar-type Class 0/I protostar, IRAS04368+2557, in L1527 has been carried out in the 3 mm band with the Nobeyama 45 m telescope. L1527 is known as a warm carbon-chain chemistry (WCCC) source, which harbors abundant unsaturated organic species such as C$_n$H ($n = 3,\ 4,\ 5,\ldots$) in a warm and dense region near the protostar. The observation covers the frequency range from 80 to 116 GHz. A supplementary observation has also been conducted in the 70 GHz band to observe fundamental transitions of deuterated species. In total, 69 molecular species are identified, among which 27 species are carbon-chain species and their isomers, including their minor isotopologues. This spectral line survey provides us with a good template of the chemical composition of the WCCC source.

Spatially-resolved Dense Molecular Gas Excitation in the Nearby LIRG VV 114

We present high-resolution observations (0".2-1".5) of multiple dense gas tracers, HCN and HCO$^+$ ($J$ = 1-0, 3-2, and 4-3), HNC ($J$ = 1-0), and CS ($J$ = 7-6) lines, toward the nearby luminous infrared galaxy VV 114 with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. All lines are robustly detected at the central gaseous filamentary structure including the eastern nucleus and the Overlap region, the collision interface of the progenitors. We found that there is no correlation between star formation efficiency and dense gas fraction, indicating that the amount of dense gas does not simply control star formation in VV 114. We predict the presence of more turbulent and diffuse molecular gas clouds around the Overlap region compared to those at the nuclear region assuming a turbulence-regulated star formation model. The intracloud turbulence at the Overlap region might be excited by galaxy-merger-induced shocks, which also explains the enhancement of gas-phase CH$_3$OH abundance previously found there. We also present spatially resolved spectral line energy distributions of HCN and HCO$^+$ for the first time, and derive excitation parameters by assuming optically-thin and local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) conditions. The LTE model revealed that warmer, HCO$^+$-poorer molecular gas medium is dominated around the eastern nucleus, harboring an AGN. The HCN abundance is remarkably flat ($\sim$3.5 $\times$ 10$^{-9}$) independently of the various environments within the filament of VV 114 (i.e., AGN, star formation, and shock).

A Molecular Line Survey toward the Nearby Galaxies NGC 1068, NGC 253, and IC 342 at 3 mm with the Nobeyama 45-m Radio Telescope: Impact of an AGN on 1 kpc Scale Molecular Abundances

It is important to investigate the relationships between the power sources and the chemical compositions of galaxies for understanding the scenario of galaxy evolution. We carried out an unbiased molecular line survey towards AGN host galaxy NGC1068, and prototypical starburst galaxies, NGC 253 and IC 342, with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope in the 3-mm band. The advantage of this line survey is that the obtained spectra have the highest angular resolution ever obtained with single-dish telescopes. In particular, the beam size of this telescope is ~15"--19", which is able to spatially separate the nuclear molecular emission from that of the starburst ring (d~30") in NGC 1068. We successfully detected approximately 23 molecular species in each galaxy, and calculated rotation temperatures and column densities. We estimate the molecular fractional abundances with respect to 13CO and CS molecules and compare them among three galaxies in order to investigate the chemical signatures of an AGN environment. As a result, we found clear trends on the abundances of molecules surrounding the AGN on 1 kpc scale. HCN, H13CN, CN, 13CN, and HC3N are more abundant, and CH3CCH is deficient in NGC 1068 compared with the starburst galaxies. High abundances of HCN, H13CN, and HC3N suggest that the circumnuclear disk in NGC 1068 is in a high-temperature environment. The reason for the non-detection of CH3CCH is likely to be dissociation by high energy radiation or less sublimation of a precursor of CH3CCH from grains.

Diverse nuclear star-forming activities in the heart of NGC 253 resolved with ten-pc scale ALMA images

We present an 8 pc x 5 pc resolution view of the central ~ 200 pc region of the nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253, based on ALMA Band 7 (λ ~ 0.85 mm or ν ~ 350 GHz) observations covering 11 GHz. We resolve the nuclear starburst of NGC 253 into eight dusty star-forming clumps, 10 pc in scale, for the first time. These clumps, each of which contains (4-10) x 10^4 M_sun of dust (assuming that the dust temperature is 25 K) and up to 6 x 10^2 massive (O5V) stars, appear to be aligned in two parallel ridges, while they have been blended in previous studies. Despite the similarities in sizes and dust masses of these clumps, their line spectra vary drastically from clump to clump although they are separated by only ~ 10 pc. Specifically, one of the clumps, Clump 1, exhibits line confusion-limited spectra with at least 36 emission lines from 19 molecules (including CH3OH, HNCO, H2CO, CH3CCH, H2CS, and H3O+) and a hydrogen recombination line (H26α), while much fewer kinds of molecular lines are detected in some other clumps where fragile species, such as complex organic molecules and HNCO, completely disappear from their spectra. We demonstrate the existence of hot molecular gas ($T_rot (SO2) = 90 {\pm} 11 K) in the former clump, which suggests that the hot and chemically rich environments are localized within a 10-pc scale star-forming clump.

A statistical study of giant molecular clouds traced by $^{13}$CO, C$^{18}$O, CS, and CH$_3$OH in the disk of NGC 1068 based on ALMA observations

We present $1''.4$ (98 pc) resolution ALMA observations of $^{13}$CO($J$=1-0), C$^{18}$O($J$=1-0), CS($J$=2-1) and CH$_3$OH($J_K$=$2_K$-$1_K$) molecular lines in the central $1'$ (4.2 kpc) region of NGC 1068 to study the physical and chemical properties of giant molecular clouds (GMCs) and to test whether these GMC-scale properties are linked to the larger-scale galactic environment. Using the derived $^{13}$CO cube, we have identified 187 high-significance ($> 8σ$) GMCs by employing the CLUMPFIND algorithm. The molecular gas masses of GMCs $M_{\rm ^{13}CO}$, derived from the $^{13}$CO data, range from $1.8 \times 10^4 ~ M_\odot$ to $4.2 \times 10^7 ~M_\odot$. A mass function of GMCs in NGC 1068 has been obtained for the first time at $\sim$100 pc resolution. We find the slope of the mass function $γ= -1.25 \pm 0.07$ for a mass range of $M_{\rm ^{13}CO} \geq 10^5M_\odot$. This is shallower than the GMCs in the disk regions of the Milky Way, M51 and NGC 300. Further, we find that the high mass cut-off of the GMC mass function occurs at $M_{\rm ^{13}CO} \sim 6 \times 10^7 M_\odot$, which is an order of magnitude larger than that in the nuclear bar region of M51, indicating that the more massive clouds dominate the mass budget in NGC 1068. The observed C$^{18}$O)/$^{13}$CO intensity ratios are found to be fairly uniform (0.27 $\pm$ 0.05) among the identified GMCs. In contrast, the CH$_3$OH/$^{13}$CO ratios exhibit striking spatial variation across the disk, with the smallest values around the bar-end ($<$ 0.03), and larger ratios along the spiral arms ($\sim$ 0.1-0.2). We find that GMCs with detectable methanol emission tend to have systematically larger velocity widths than those without methanol emission, suggesting that (relatively weak) shocks are responsible for the enhancement of the CH$_3$OH/$^{13}$CO ratios of GMCs in the disk of NGC 1068.

Merger-induced Shocks in the Nearby LIRG VV 114 through Methanol Observations with ALMA

We report the detection of two CH$_3$OH lines (J$_K$ = 2$_K$-1$_K$ and 3$_K$-2$_K$) between the progenitor's disks ("Overlap") of the mid-stage merging galaxy VV 114 obtained using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Band 3 and Band 4. The detected CH$_3$OH emission show an extended filamentary structure (~ 3 kpc) across the progenitor's disks with relatively large velocity width (FWZI ~ 150 km/s). The emission is only significant in the "overlap" and not detected in the two merging nuclei. Assuming optically-thin emission and local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE), we found the CH$_3$OH column density relative to H$_2$ ($X_{\rm CH_3OH}$) peaks at the "Overlap" (~ 8 $\times$ 10$^{-9}$), which is almost an order of magnitude larger than that at the eastern nucleus. We suggest that kpc-scale shocks driven by galaxy-galaxy collision may play an important role to enhance the CH$_3$OH abundance at the "Overlap". This scenario is consistent with that shock-induced large velocity dispersion components of ionized gas have been detected in optical wavelength at the same region. Conversely, low $X_{\rm CH_3OH}$ at the nuclear regions might be attributed to the strong photodissociation by nuclear starbursts and/or putative active galactic nucleus (AGN), or inefficient production of CH$_3$OH on dust grains due to initial high temperature conditions (i.e., desorption of the precursor molecule, CO, into gas-phase before forming CH$_3$OH on dust grains). These ALMA observations demonstrate that CH$_3$OH is a unique tool to address kpc-scale shock-induced gas dynamics and star formation in merging galaxies.

Precise observations of the 12C/13C ratios of HC3N in the low-mass star-forming region L1527

Using the Green Bank 100 m telescope and the Nobeyama 45 m telescope, we have observed the rotational emission lines of the three 13C isotopic species of HC3N in the 3 and 7 mm bands toward the low-mass star-forming region L1527 in order to explore their anomalous 12C/13C ratios. The column densities of the 13C isotopic species are derived from the intensities of the J = 5-4 lines observed at high signal-to-noise ratios. The abundance ratios are determined to be 1.00:1.01 +- 0.02:1.35 +- 0.03:86.4 +- 1.6 for [H13CCCN]:[HC13CCN]:[HCC13CN]:[HCCCN], where the errors represent one standard deviation. The ratios are very similar to those reported for the starless cloud, Taurus Molecular Cloud-1 Cyanopolyyne Peak (TMC-1 CP). These ratios cannot be explained by thermal equilibrium, but likely reflect the production pathways of this molecule. We have shown the equality of the abundances of H13CCCN and HC13CCN at a high-confidence level, which supports the production pathways of HC3N via C2H2 and C2H2+. The average 12C/13C ratio for HC3N is 77 +- 4, which may be only slightly higher than the elemental 12C/13C ratio. Dilution of the 13C isotope in HC3N is not as significant as that in CCH or c-C3H2. We have also simultaneously observed the DCCCN and HCCC15N lines and derived the isotope ratios: [DCCCN]/[HCCCN] = 0.0370 +- 0.0007 and [HCCCN]/[HCCC15N] = 338 +- 12.

Implication of Formation Mechanisms of HC5N in TMC-1 as Studied by 13C Isotopic Fractionation

We observed the J = 9-8 and 16-15 rotational transitions of the normal species and five 13C isotopologues of HC5N to study its formation mechanisms toward the cyanopolyyne peak in Taurus Molecular Cloud-1, with the 45-m radio telescope of Nobeyama Radio Observatory. We detected the five 13C isotopologues with high signal-to-noise ratios between 12 and 20, as well as the normal species. The abundance ratios of the five 13C isotopologues of HC5N are found to be 1.00:0.97:1.03:1.05:1.16 (0.19) for [H13CCCCCN]:[HC13CCCCN]:[HCC13CCCN]:[HCCC13CCN]:[HCCCC13CN]. We do not find any significant differences among the five 13C isotopologues. The averaged [HC5N]/[13C isotopologues] abundance ratio is determined to be 94 (6), which is slightly higher than the local interstellar elemental 12C/13C ratio of 60-70. Possible formation pathways are discussed on the basis of these results.
