Combinatorics of the geometry of Wilson loop diagrams I: equivalence classes via matroids and polytopes

Wilson loop diagrams are an important tool in studying scattering amplitudes of SYM $N=4$ theory and are known by previous work to be associated to positroids. We characterize the conditions under which two Wilson loop diagrams give the same positroid, prove that an important subclass of subdiagrams (exact subdiagrams) correspond to uniform matroids, and enumerate the number of different Wilson loop diagrams that correspond to each positroid cell. We also give a correspondence between those positroids which can arise from Wilson loop diagrams and directions in associahedra.

Combinatorics of the geometry of Wilson loop diagrams II: Grassmann necklaces, dimensions, and denominators

Wilson loop diagrams are an important tool in studying scattering amplitudes of SYM $N=4$ theory and are known by previous work to be associated to positroids. In this paper we study the structure of the associated positroids, as well as the structure of the denominator of the integrand defined by each diagram. We give an algorithm to derive the Grassmann necklace of the associated positroid directly from the Wilson loop diagram, and a recursive proof that the dimension of these cells is thrice the number of propagators in the diagram. We also show that the ideal generated by the denominator in the integrand is the radical of the ideal generated by the product of Grassmann necklace minors.

The Prime Spectrum of Quantum $SL_3$ and the Poisson-prime Spectrum of its Semi-classical Limit

A bijection $ψ$ is defined between the prime spectrum of quantum $SL_3$ and the Poisson prime spectrum of $SL_3$, and we verify that $ψ$ and $ψ^{-1}$ both preserve inclusions of primes, i.e. that $ψ$ is in fact a homeomorphism between these two spaces. This is accomplished by developing a Poisson analogue of Brown and Goodearl's framework for describing the Zariski topology of spectra of quantum algebras, and then verifying directly that in the case of $SL_3$ these give rise to identical pictures on both the quantum and Poisson sides. As part of this analysis, we study the Poisson primitive spectrum of $\mathcal{O}(SL_3)$ and obtain explicit generating sets for all of the Poisson primitive ideals.

Separating Ore sets for prime ideals of quantum algebras

Brown and Goodearl stated a conjecture that provides an explicit description of the topology of the spectra of quantum algebras. The conjecture takes on a more explicit form if there exist separating Ore sets for all incident pairs of torus invariant prime ideals of the given algebra. We prove that this is the case for the two largest classes of algebras of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension that fit the setting of the conjecture: the quantized coordinate rings of all simple algebraic groups and the quantum Schubert cell algebras for all symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras.

From Grassmann necklaces to restricted permutations and back again

We study the commutative algebras $Z_{JK}$ appearing in Brown and Goodearl's extension of the $\mathcal{H}$-stratification framework, and show that if $A$ is the single parameter quantized coordinate ring of $M_{m,n}$, $GL_n$ or $SL_n$, then the algebras $Z_{JK}$ can always be constructed in terms of centres of localizations. The main purpose of the $Z_{JK}$ is to study the structure of the topological space $spec(A)$, which remains unknown for all but a few low-dimensional examples. We explicitly construct the required denominator sets using two different techniques (restricted permutations and Grassmann necklaces) and show that we obtain the same sets in both cases. As a corollary, we obtain a simple formula for the Grassmann necklace associated to a cell of totally nonnegative real $m\times n$ matrices in terms of its restricted permutation.

The $q$-Division Ring, Quantum Matrices and Semi-classical Limits

Our aim in this thesis is to use the language of deformation-quantization to understand certain quantized algebras by looking at properties of the corresponding commutative ones, and conversely to obtain results about the commutative algebras (upon which a Poisson structure is induced) using existing results for the non-commutative ones. We consider two main cases: firstly, the division ring of fractions of the quantum plane, which we view as a deformation of the commutative field of rational functions in two variables with respect to the bracket $\{x,y\} = xy$, and secondly, quantum matrices and their semi-classical limits. In particular, we use the theory of $H$-stratification to study the Poisson-prime and Poisson-primitive ideals of $\mathcal{O}(GL_3)$ and $\mathcal{O}(SL_3)$, and compare this to the corresponding results for quantum matrices.

The q-Division Ring and its Fixed Rings

We prove that the fixed ring of the $q$-division ring $k_q(x,y)$ under any finite group of monomial automorphisms is isomorphic to $k_q(x,y)$ for the same $q$. In a similar manner, we also show that this phenomenon extends to an automorphism that is defined only on $k_q(x,y)$ and does not restrict to $k_q[x^{\pm1},y^{\pm1}]$. We then use these results to answer several questions posed by Artamonov and Cohn about the endomorphisms and automorphisms of $k_q(x,y)$.
