Fast Decentralized Linear Functions Over Edge Fluctuating Graphs

Implementing linear transformations is a key task in the decentralized signal processing framework, which performs learning tasks on data sets distributed over multi-node networks. That kind of network can be represented by a graph. Recently, some decentralized methods have been proposed to compute linear transformations by leveraging the notion of graph shift operator, which captures the local structure of the graph. However, existing approaches have some drawbacks such as considering some special instances of linear transformations, or reducing the family of transformations by assuming that a shift matrix is given such that a subset of its eigenvectors spans the subspace of interest. In contrast, this paper develops a framework for computing a wide class of linear transformations in a decentralized fashion by relying on the notion of graph shift operator. The main goal of the proposed method is to compute the desired linear transformation in a small number of iterations. To this end, a set of successive graph shift operators is employed, then, a new optimization problem is proposed whose goal is to compute the desired transformation as fast as possible. In addition, usually, the topology of the networks, especially the wireless sensor networks, change randomly because of node failures or random links. In this paper, the effect of edge fluctuations on the performance of the proposed method is studied. To deal with the negative effect of edge fluctuations, an online kernel-based method is proposed which enables nodes to estimate the missed values with their at hand information. The proposed method can also be employed to sparsify the network graph or reduce the number of local exchanges between nodes, which saves sensors power in the wireless sensor networks.

Fast Graph Filters for Decentralized Subspace Projection

A number of inference problems with sensor networks involve projecting a measured signal onto a given subspace. In existing decentralized approaches, sensors communicate with their local neighbors to obtain a sequence of iterates that asymptotically converges to the desired projection. In contrast, the present paper develops methods that produce these projections in a finite and approximately minimal number of iterations. Building upon tools from graph signal processing, the problem is cast as the design of a graph filter which, in turn, is reduced to the design of a suitable graph shift operator. Exploiting the eigenstructure of the projection and shift matrices leads to an objective whose minimization yields approximately minimum-order graph filters. To cope with the fact that this problem is not convex, the present work introduces a novel convex relaxation of the number of distinct eigenvalues of a matrix based on the nuclear norm of a Kronecker difference. To tackle the case where there exists no graph filter capable of implementing a certain subspace projection with a given network topology, a second optimization criterion is presented to approximate the desired projection while trading the number of iterations for approximation error. Two algorithms are proposed to optimize the aforementioned criteria based on the alternating-direction method of multipliers. An exhaustive simulation study demonstrates that the obtained filters can effectively obtain subspace projections markedly faster than existing algorithms.

Designing Asymmetric Shift Operators for Decentralized Subspace Projection

A large number of applications in wireless sensor networks include projecting a vector of noisy observations onto a subspace dictated by prior information about the field being monitored. In general, accomplishing such a task in a centralized fashion, entails a large power consumption, congestion at certain nodes, and suffers from robustness issues against possible node failures. Computing such projections in a decentralized fashion is an alternative solution that solves these issues. Recent works have shown that this task can be done via the so-called graph filters where only local inter-node communication is performed in a distributed manner using a graph shift operator. Existing methods designed the graph filters for symmetric topologies. However, in this paper, the design of the graph shift operators to perform decentralized subspace projection for asymmetric topologies is studied.

Fast Decentralized Linear Functions via Successive Graph Shift Operators

We study decentralized designing of the graph shift operators to implement linear transformations between graph signals. Since this operator captures the local structure of the graph, the proposed method of this paper gives rise to decentralized linear network operators. Unfortunately, existing decentralized approaches either consider some special instances of linear transformations or confine themselves to some known graph shift operators reduced family of the designing linear transformations task. To remedy these limitations, this paper develops a framework for computing a wide class of linear transformations in a decentralized fashion by relying on the notion of graph shift operator. To this end, a set of successive graph shift operators is implemented to compute linear transformations in a small number of iterations (as fast as possible).

Interference Alignment in MIMO Interference Channels using SDP Relaxation

Nowadays, providing higher data rate is a momentous goal for wireless communications systems. Interference is one of the important obstacles to reach this purpose. Interference alignment is a management technique that align interference from other transmitters in the least possible dimension subspace at each receiver and as a result, provide the remaining dimensions for free interference signal. An uncoordinated interference is an example of interference which cannot be aligned coordinately with interference from coordinated part and consequently, the performance of interference alignment approaches is degraded. In this paper, we propose two rank minimization methods to enhance the performance of interference alignment in the presence of uncoordinated interference sources. Firstly, a new objective function is chosen then, a new class of convex relaxation is proposed with respect to the uncoordinated interference which leads to decrease the optimal value of our optimization problem. Moreover, we use schatten-p-norm as surrogate of rank function and we implement iteratively reweighted algorithm to solve optimization problem. In addition, we apply our proposed methods to mitigate interference in relay-aided MIMO interference channel, and propose a weighted-sum method to improve the performance of interference alignment in the amplify-and-forward relay-aided MIMO system based on the rank minimization approach. Finally, our simulation results show that our proposed methods can obtain considerably higher multiplexing gain and sum rate than other approaches in the interference alignment framework and the performance of interference alignment is improved.
