An electrokinetic route to giant augmentation in load bearing capacity of compliant microfluidic channels

The performances of lubricated systems widely used in natural, biological, and artificial settings are traditionally dictated by their load bearing capacities. Here we unveil that, by exploiting a unique coupling between interfacial electro-mechanics, hydrodynamics and substrate compliance, it is plausible to realize a massive augmentation in the load bearing capacities ofcompliant microfluidic channels. Our analysis demonstrates that the interplay between wettability and charge modulation in association with the solution chemistry and surface compliance results in this remarkable phenomenon. These results are likely to open up novel design paradigms of augmenting the load bearing capacities of miniaturized bio-mimetic units through the realization of a symmetry breaking phenomenon triggered by asymmetries in electromechanical and hydrodynamic transport over interfacial scales.

Electrothermally Modulated Dispersion in Viscoelastic Fluids on Patterned Surfaces

Augmenting the dispersion of a solute species remains a challenging topic in electroosmotically-actuated flows due to the inherent plug-like feature of its velocity profile. In this study, we improvise on electrothermal flow of viscoelastic fluids through a parallel-plate microchannel with patterned surface charge to depict augmented dispersion coefficient of a solute. Here we consider the physical properties of the fluid to be temperature-dependent, thus, bringing out the combinatorial effect of both the thermal perturbation as well as the surface modulation on the resulting dynamics. This analysis unveils that by making a judicious choice of pertinent parameters one can control the flow rate with the desired account of dispersion. We envisage that the intricate coupling between the electrothermal perturbation and surface charge modulation combined with the fluid rheology may have tremendous implications towards the efficient designing of microfluidic devices.

Study on performance improvement of oil paint image filter algorithm using parallel pattern library

This paper gives a detailed study on the performance of oil paint image filter algorithm with various parameters applied on an image of RGB model. Oil Paint image processing, being very performance hungry, current research tries to find improvement using parallel pattern library. With increasing kernel-size, the processing time of oil paint image filter algorithm increases exponentially.

Focus Point SUSY at the LHC Revisited

The estimation of the backgrounds for gluino signals in focus point supersymmetry is extended by including the backgrounds from the production of four third generation quarks in the analysis. We find that these backgrounds are negligible if one uses the strong selection criteria proposed in the literature (including this analysis) for heavy gluino searches. Softer selection criteria often recommended for lighter gluino searches yield backgrounds which are small but numerically significant. We have also repeated the more conventional background calculations and compared our results with the other groups. We find that the size of the total residual background estimated by different groups using different event generators and hard kinematical cuts agree approximately. In view of the theoretical uncertainties in the leading order signal and background cross sections mainly due to the choice of the QCD scale, the gluino mass reach at the LHC cannot be pinpointed. However, requiring a signal with $\rm\geq 3$ tagged b-jets (instead of the standard choice of $\rm\geq 2$) it is shown that gluino masses close to 2 TeV can be probed at the LHC for a range of reasonable choices of the QCD scale for an integrated luminosity of 300 fb$^{-1}$.
