New Complex-Valued Harmonic Morphisms via Rational Exponents

The method of complex-valued eigenfamilies has been used to solve difficult non-linear problems in differential geometry. The purpose of this note is to generalise the construction method from the use of polynomial solutions to those obtained by rational exponents. This gives many new solutions to the problem under investigation.

Minimal Submanifolds of The Complex and Quaternionic Projective and Hyperbolic Spaces $\cn P^{2n-1}$, $\hn P^{2n-1}$, $\cn H^{2n-1}$, $\hn H^{2n-1}$ via Harmonic Morphisms

In this work we construct non-holomorphic, complete and minimal submanifolds of the odd-dimensional complex projective spaces $\cn P^{2n-1}$ and their dual complex hyperbolic spaces $\cn H^{2n-1}$. We then provide complete minimal submanifolds of the quaternionic projective spaces $\hn P^{2n-1}$ and their dual quaternionic hyperbolic spaces $\hn H^{2n-1}$. All the constructed minimal submanifolds are of codimension two. Our main tools are complex-valued harmonic morphisms from the above mentioned ambient spaces.

Harmonic Morphisms and Minimal Conformal Foliations on Lie Groups

Let $G$ be a Lie group equipped with a left-invariant Riemannian metric. Let $K$ be a semisimple and normal subgroup of $G$ generating a left-invariant conformal foliation $\F$ of on $G$. We then show that the foliation $\F$ is Riemannian and minimal. This means that locally the leaves of $\F$ are fibres of a harmonic morphism. We also prove that if the metric restricted to $K$ is biinvariant then $\F$ is totally geodesic.

Minimal Submanifolds via Complex-Valued Eigenfunctions

In this work we introduce a new method for manufacturing minimal submanifolds in Riemannian geometry. For this we employ the so called complex-valued eigenfunctions. This is particularly interesting in the cases when the Riemannian ambient manifold is compact.

Harmonic Morphisms on Lie groups and Minimal Conformal Foliations of Codimension two

Let G be a Lie group equipped with a left-invariant semi-Riemannian metric. Let K be a semisimple subgroup of G generating a left-invariant conformal foliation F of codimension two on G. We then show that the foliation F is minimal. This means that locally the leaves of F are fibres of a complex-valued harmonic morphism. In the Riemannian case, we prove that if the metric restricted to K is biinvariant then F is totally geodesic.

Explicit harmonic morphisms and $p$-harmonic functions from the complex and quaternionic Grassmannians

We construct explicit complex-valued $p$-harmonic functions and harmonic morphisms on the classical compact symmetric complex and quaternionic Grassmannians. The ingredients for our construction method are joint eigenfunctions of the classical Laplace-Beltrami and the so called conformality operator. A known duality principle implies that these $p$-harmonic functions and harmonic morphisms also induce such solutions on the Riemannian symmetric non-compact dual spaces.

Explicit $p$-harmonic functions on the real Grassmannians

In this work we use the method of eigenfamilies to construct explicit complex-valued proper $p$-harmonic functions on the compact real Grassmannians. We also find proper $p$-harmonic functions on the real flag manifolds which do not descend onto any of the real Grassmannians.

Natural almost Hermitian structures on conformally foliated 4-dimensional Lie groups with minimal leaves

Let $(G,g)$ be a 4-dimensional Riemannian Lie group with a 2-dimensional left-invariant, conformal foliation $\F$ with minimal leaves. Let $J$ be an almost Hermitian structure on $G$ adapted to the foliation $\F$. We classify such structures $J$ which are almost Kähler $(\A\K)$, integrable $(\I)$ or Kähler $(\K)$. Hereby we construct several new multi-dimensional examples in each class.

Eight-Dimensional Hermitian Lie Groups Conformally Foliated by Minimal $\textbf{SU}(2) \times \textbf{SU}(2)$ Leaves

We investigate the $8$-dimensional Riemannian Lie groups $G^8$, carrying a left-invariant, conformal and minimal foliation $\mathcal{F}$, with leaves diffeomorphic to the subgroup $\textbf{SU}(2) \times \textbf{SU}(2)$ of $G^8$. Such groups have been classified by E. Ghandour, S. Gudmundsson and T. Turner in their recent work. They show that these $8$-dimensional Lie groups form a real $13$-dimensional family. For each left-invariant Hermitian structure $J_\mathcal{V}$ on $\textbf{SU}(2) \times \textbf{SU}(2)$, we extend this to an almost Hermitian structures $J$ on $G$ adapted to the foliation $\mathcal{F}$ i.e. respecting the leaf structure on $G$ induced by $\mathcal{F}$. We then classify those $8$-dimensional Lie groups $G$ for which the almost Hermitian structures $J$ are integrable ($\mathcal{W}_3\oplus\mathcal{W}_4$), semi-Kähler ($\mathcal{W}_4$), locally conformal Kähler ($\mathcal{W}_3$) or even Kähler ($\mathcal{K}$). It turns out that for each $J_\mathcal{V}$ we obtain a $9$-dimensional family of Lie groups $G$ for which $J$ is integrable. In the case of $J$ being semi-Kähler, we yield a $3$-dimensional family of such groups. We then show that in the cases of $J$ being Kähler or locally conformal Kähler there are no solutions i.e. such $8$-dimensional Lie groups do not exist.

Complex-valued (p,q)-harmonic morphisms from Riemannian manifolds

We introduce the natural notion of (p,q)-harmonic morphisms between Riemannian manifolds. This unifies several theories that have been studied during the last decades. We then study the special case when the maps involved are complex-valued. For these we find a characterisation and provide new non-trivial examples in important cases.

Explicit p-harmonic functions on rank-one Lie groups of Iwasawa type

We construct explicit proper p-harmonic functions on rank-one Lie groups of Iwasawa type. This class of Lie groups includes many classical Riemannian manifolds such as the rank-one symmetric spaces of non-compact type, Damek-Ricci spaces, rank-one Einstein solvmanifolds and Carnot spaces.
