Confidence in Large Language Model Evaluation: A Bayesian Approach to Limited-Sample Challenges

Large language models (LLMs) exhibit probabilistic output characteristics, yet conventional evaluation frameworks rely on deterministic scalar metrics. This study introduces a Bayesian approach for LLM capability assessment that integrates prior knowledge through probabilistic inference, addressing limitations under limited-sample regimes. By treating model capabilities as latent variables and leveraging a curated query set to induce discriminative responses, we formalize model ranking as a Bayesian hypothesis testing problem over mutually exclusive capability intervals. Experimental evaluations with GPT-series models demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior discrimination compared to conventional evaluation methods. Results indicate that even with reduced sample sizes, the approach maintains statistical robustness while providing actionable insights, such as probabilistic statements about a model's likelihood of surpassing specific baselines. This work advances LLM evaluation methodologies by bridging Bayesian inference with practical constraints in real-world deployment scenarios.

Battery-assisted Electric Vehicle Charging: Data Driven Performance Analysis

As the number of electric vehicles rapidly increases, their peak demand on the grid becomes one of the major challenges. A battery-assisted charging concept has emerged recently, which allows to accumulate energy during off-peak hours and in-between charging sessions to boost-charge the vehicle at a higher rate than available from the grid. While prior research focused on the design and implementation aspects of battery-assisted charging, its impact at large geographical scales remains largely unexplored. In this paper we analyse to which extent the battery-assisted charging can replace high-speed chargers using a dataset of over 3 million EV charging sessions in both domestic and public setting in the UK. We first develop a discrete-event EV charge model that takes into account battery capacity, grid supply capacity and power output among other parameters. We then run simulations to evaluate the battery-assisted charging performance in terms of delivered energy, charging time and parity with conventional high-speed chargers. The results indicate that in domestic settings battery-assisted charging provides 98% performance parity of high-speed chargers from a standard 3 kW grid connection with a single battery pack. For non-domestic settings, the battery-assisted chargers can provide 92% and 99% performance parity of high-speed chargers with 10 battery packs using 3kW and 7kW grid supply respectively.

Search for a lighter Higgs Boson in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

After the discovery of the Higgs boson with mass at approximately 125 $GeV$ at the LHC, many studies both from the theoretical and experimental sides have been performed to search for a new Higgs Boson lighter than the 125 $GeV$ Higgs boson. We explore the possibility of constraining a lighter neutral scalar Higgs boson $h_{1}$ and a lighter pseudo-scalar Higgs boson $a_{1}$ in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model by restricting the next-to-lightest scalar Higgs boson $h_{2}$ to be the LHC observed Higgs boson after the phenomenological constraints and the constraints from experimental measurements. Such lighter particles are not yet completely excluded by the latest results of the search for a lighter Higgs boson with the diphoton decay channel from LHC data. Our results show that for a lighter scalar Higgs boson some new constraints on the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model could be obtained at the LHC if such a search is performed by the experimental collaborations with more data. The discovery potential of other interesting decay channels of such a lighter neutral scalar and a pseudo-scalar particle are also discussed.

Production of γγ+ 2jets from double parton scattering in proton-proton collisions at the LHC

Cross sections for the production of pairs of photons plus two additional jets produced from double parton scattering in high-energy proton-proton collisions at the LHC are calculated for the first time. The estimates are based on the theoretical perturbative QCD predictions for the productions of γγat next-to-next-to-leading-order, jet + jet and γ+ jet at next-to-leading-order, for their corresponding single-scattering cross sections. The cross sections and expected event rates for γγ+ 2 jets from double parton scattering, after typical acceptance and selections, are given for proton-proton collisions with the center-of-mass energies of 13 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 100 fb-1 planned for the following two years, and also center-of-mass energies of 14 TeV with 3000 fb-1 of integrated luminosity as LHC designed.
