Reconciling hadronic and partonic analyticity in $b\to s\ell\ell$ transitions

Rare $B$-meson decays mediated by $b\to s\ell\ell$ transitions constitute sensitive probes of physics beyond the Standard Model, and have triggered considerable interest due to hints for deviations from the Standard-Model prediction. To establish a discrepancy beyond a reasonable doubt, control over the nonlocal matrix elements involving charm loops is essential, which, for large spacelike virtualities, can be constrained by an operator product expansion with coefficients known at two-loop order. We observe that the analytic structure of this partonic calculation, whose understanding is important to put forward rigorous parameterizations, follows from simple triangle topologies and demonstrate explicitly how dispersion relations are fulfilled even in the case of anomalous thresholds. Crucially, these anomalous contributions match onto the ones expected when considering hadronic degrees of freedom, proving that the partonic calculation does not miss anomalous effects and justifying its use in regions of parameter space in which a perturbative description applies.

Dispersive Analysis of $D$- and $B$-Meson Form Factors with Chiral and Heavy-Quark Constraints

We analyze the isovector vector form factors of $D$, $D^*$, $B$, and $B^*$ mesons at low energies. We employ all constraints due to chiral and heavy-quark symmetry, and include the physics of resonant pion-pion rescattering in a model-independent way, using dispersion theory. Special attention is paid to the analytic properties of these form factors, which include anomalous thresholds due to triangle diagrams that are located on the physical Riemann sheets in some of the form factors. We extract the couplings of the $\rho(770)$ resonance to all these heavy mesons by determining the appropriate pole residues.

Advanced parametrisations for hadronic form factors

The rich analytic structure of hadronic form factors makes a theoretically consistent yet easily applicable parametrisation cumbersome. Consequently, most parametrisations are limited to reproducing the simplest analytic features sufficient to describe form factors on their first Riemann sheet. Here, we introduce two novel form factor parametrisations that allow resonance poles and left-hand cuts on the second Riemann sheet to be studied, while also making the connection to partial-wave amplitudes manifest.

Anomalous thresholds in $B\to (P,V)\gamma^*$ form factors

We study the effects of anomalous thresholds on the non-local form factors describing the hadronization of the light-quark contribution to $B\to(P,V)\gamma^*$ transitions. Starting from a comprehensive discussion of anomalous thresholds in the triangle loop function for different mass configurations, we detail how the dispersion relation for $\pi\pi$ intermediate states is affected by contour deformations mandated by the anomalous branch points. Phenomenological estimates of the size of the anomalous contributions to the form factors are provided with couplings determined from measured branching fractions and Dalitz plot distributions. Our key finding is that anomalous effects are suppressed on the $\rho(770)$ resonance, while off-peak the effects can become as large as $\mathcal{O}(10\%)$ of the full (light-quark-loop induced) non-local form factors. We comment on future generalizations towards higher intermediate states and the charm loop, outlining how the dispersive framework established in this work could help improve the non-local form factors needed as input for a robust interpretation of $B\to (P,V)\ell^+\ell^-$ decays.
