Comparison of CoModGANs, LaMa and GLIDE for Art Inpainting- Completing M.C Escher's Print Gallery

Digital art restoration has benefited from inpainting models to correct the degradation or missing sections of a painting. This work compares three current state-of-the art models for inpainting of large missing regions. We provide qualitative and quantitative comparison of the performance by CoModGANs, LaMa and GLIDE in inpainting of blurry and missing sections of images. We use Escher's incomplete painting Print Gallery as our test study since it presents several of the challenges commonly present in restorative inpainting.

Image In painting Applied to Art Completing Escher's Print Gallery

This extended abstract presents the first stages of a research on in-painting suited for art reconstruction. We introduce M.C Eschers Print Gallery lithography as a use case example. This artwork presents a void on its center and additionally, it follows a challenging mathematical structure that needs to be preserved by the in-painting method. We present our work so far and our future line of research.

Mathematical Foundations of Regression Methods for the approximation of the Forward Initial Margin

Abundant literature has been published on approximation methods for the forward initial margin. The most popular ones being the family of regression methods. This paper describes the mathematical foundations on which these regression approximation methods lie. We introduce mathematical rigor to show that in essence, all the methods propose variations of approximations for the conditional expectation function, which is interpreted as an orthogonal projection on Hilbert spaces. We show that each method is simply choosing a different functional form to numerically estimate the conditional expectation. We cover in particular the most popular methods in the literature so far, Polynomial approximation, Kernel regressions and Neural Networks.

Capital Valuation Adjustment and Funding Valuation Adjustment

In the aftermath of the 2007 global financial crisis, banks started reflecting into derivative pricing the cost of capital and collateral funding through XVA metrics. Here XVA is a catch-all acronym whereby X is replaced by a letter such as C for credit, D for debt, F for funding, K for capital and so on, and VA stands for valuation adjustment. This behaviour is at odds with economies where markets for contingent claims are complete, whereby trades clear at fair valuations and the costs for capital and collateral are both irrelevant to investment decisions. In this paper, we set forth a mathematical formalism for derivative portfolio management in incomplete markets for banks. A particular emphasis is given to the problem of finding optimal strategies for retained earnings which ensure a sustainable dividend policy.
