Chaos suppression via adaptive feedback control of intermittency: From exactly solvable ergodic maps to interacting microbubble clusters

Intermittency represents a fundamental route to chaos in nonlinear dynamical systems. In this work we introduce an adaptive control strategy in which the control parameter of an intermittent system is promoted to a dynamical variable that evolves autonomously under an auxiliary nonlinear map drawn from the same functional hierarchy as the system itself. The construction eliminates the need for orbit identification, local linearization, and trajectory-triggered perturbations, which are central ingredients of conventional feedback schemes. The theoretical framework is developed within a class of one-dimensional nonlinear ergodic maps with exactly known invariant (Sinai--Ruelle--Bowen) measures, for which we derive in closed form (i) the dynamics and invariant measure of the evolving control parameter, (ii) the invariant measure of the coupled system, and (iii) the $q$-generalized Lyapunov exponents before and after control. The generalized Lyapunov spectrum serves as an analytical order parameter for the control process: the collapse of its positive regions provides a quantitative and initial-condition-independent signature of chaos suppression, and yields the sensitivity to initial conditions in explicit form. To establish the physical relevance of the approach beyond low-dimensional maps, we apply the same construction to a cluster of three interacting ultrasound-driven microbubbles described by the Keller--Herring model, promoting the experimentally accessible acoustic driving frequency to a dynamical variable. Systematic bifurcation and Lyapunov analyses, performed over wide ranges of driving pressure, frequency, and equilibrium radii, demonstrate that intermittent chaotic radial oscillations are progressively suppressed and replaced by stable periodic motion.

Dephasing of planar Ge hole spin qubits due to 1/$\textit{f}$ charge noise

Hole spin qubits in Ge, investigated for all-electrical spin manipulation because of its large spin-orbit coupling, are exposed to charge noise leading to decoherence. Here we construct a model of $1/f$ noise from individual fluctuators and determine the dephasing time $T_2^*$ as a function of qubit properties. $T_2^*$ decreases with increasing magnetic field and is an order of magnitude longer for out-of-plane than for in-plane fields for the same Zeeman energy. $T_2^*$ shows little variation as a function of the top gate field and is a complex function of the dot radius. Our results should help experiments to enhance coherence in hole qubit architectures.

Non-linear anomalous Hall effect of two-dimensional spin-3/2 heavy holes

We identify a sizable non-linear anomalous Hall effect in the electrical response of spin-3/2 heavy holes in zincblende semiconductor nanostructures. The response is driven by a quadrupole interaction with the electric field enabled by Td-symmetry. This interaction, until recently believed to be negligible, reflects inversion symmetry breaking and in two dimensions results in an electric-field dependent correction to the in-plane g-factor. The effect can be observed in state-of-the-art heterostructures, either via magnetic doping or by using a vector magnet, where even for small perpendicular magnetic fields it is comparable in magnitude to topological materials.

Extended Creutz ladder with spin-orbit coupling: a one-dimensional analog of the Kane-Mele model

We construct a topological ladder model, one-dimensional, following the steps which lead to the Kane-Mele model in two dimensions. Starting with a Creutz ladder we modify it so that the gap closure points can occur at either $k = π/ 2$ or $-π/2$. We then couple two such models, one for each spin channel, in such a way that time-reversal invariance is restored. We also add a Rashba spin-orbit coupling term. The model falls in the CII symmetry class. We derive the relevant $2\mathbb{Z}$ topological index, calculate the phase diagram and demonstrate the existence of edge states. We also give the thermodynamic derivation of the quantum spin Hall conductance (Středa-Widom). Approximate implementation of this result indicates that this quantity is sensitive to the topological behavior of the model.
