Baryon interactions from lattice QCD with physical masses -- $S=-2$ sector --

The strangeness $S=-2$ baryon-baryon interaction is investigated directly from the fundamental theory of the strong interaction, QCD. The HAL QCD method enables us to extract baryon interactions from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions without using any experimental information. We present our latest result on the $S = -2$ baryon interactions and discuss the H-dibaryon state using potentials which are calculated by using the (almost) physical point gauge configurations with large lattice volume of$(8.1{\rm{fm}})^4$ generated on the K-computer.

Baryon interactions from lattice QCD with physical masses ---S=-3 sector: XiSigma and XiLambda-XiSigma---

We present lattice QCD results of baryon-baryon potentials in S=-3 sector, i.e., ΞΣ(I=3/2) potentials and ΞΛ-ΞΣcoupled channel potentials (I=1/2) by using the 2+1 flavor gauge configurations with almost the physical quark masses generated on 96^4 lattice with 1/a \simeq 2.3 GeV and L = 96a \simeq 8.1 fm where m_pi \simeq 146 MeV and m_K \simeq 525 MeV. These potentials are obtained based on the time-dependent HAL QCD method with a non-relativistic approximation. Qualitative behaviors of the results are found to be consistent with those in the flavor SU(3) limit.

Flow equation for the scalar model in the large $N$ expansion and its applications

We study the flow equation of the O($N$) $φ^4$ model in $d$ dimensions at the next-to-leading order (NLO) in the $1/N$ expansion. Using the Schwinger-Dyson equation, we derive 2-pt and 4-pt functions of flowed fields. As the first application of the NLO calculations, we study the running coupling defined from the connected 4-pt function of flowed fields in the $d+1$ dimensional theory. We show in particular that this running coupling has not only the UV fixed point but also an IR fixed point (Wilson-Fisher fixed point) in the 3 dimensional massless scalar theory. As the second application, we calculate the NLO correction to the induced metric in $d+1$ dimensions with $d=3$ in the massless limit. While the induced metric describes a 4-dimensional Euclidean Anti-de-Sitter (AdS) space at the leading order as shown in the previous paper, the NLO corrections make the space asymptotically AdS only in UV and IR limits. Remarkably, while the AdS radius does not receive a NLO correction in the UV limit, the AdS radius decreases at the NLO in the IR limit, which corresponds to the Wilson-Fisher fixed point in the original scalar model in 3 dimensions.

Fate of the Tetraquark Candidate Zc(3900) from Lattice QCD

The possible exotic meson $Z_{c}(3900)$, found in $e^+ e^-$ reactions, is studied by the method of coupled-channel scattering in lattice QCD. The interaction among $πJ/ψ$, $ρη_{c}$ and $\bar{D}D^{*}$ channels is derived from (2+1)-flavor QCD simulations at $m_π=410$-$700$ MeV. The interaction is dominated by the off-diagonal $πJ/ψ$-$\bar{D}D^{*}$ and $ρη_{c}$-$\bar{D}D^{*}$ couplings, which indicates that the $Z_{c}(3900)$ is not a usual resonance but a threshold cusp. Semi-phenomenological analyses with the coupled-channel interaction are presented to confirm this conclusion.

Lüscher's finite volume test for two-baryon systems with attractive interactions

For the attractive interaction, the Lüscher's finite volume formula gives the phase shift at negative squared moment $k^2<0$ for the ground state in the finite volume, which corresponds to the analytic continuation of the phase shift at $k^2<0$ in the infinite volume. Using this fact, we reexamine behaviors of phase shifts at $k^2 <0$ obtained directly from plateaux of effective energy shifts in previous lattice studies for two nucleon systems on various volumes. We have found that data, based on which existences of the bound states are claimed, show singular behaviors of the phase shift at $k^2<0$, which seem incompatible with smooth behaviors predicted by the effective range expansion. This, together with the fake plateau problem for the determination of the energy shift, brings a serious doubt on existences of the $NN$ bound states claimed in previous lattice studies at pion masses heavier than 300 MeV.

Entanglement entropy for pure gauge theories in 1+1 dimensions using the lattice regularization

We study the entanglement entropy (EE) for pure gauge theories in 1+1 dimensions with the lattice regularization. Using the definition of the EE for lattice gauge theories proposed in a previous paper [1] (S. Aoki, T. Iritani, M. Nozaki, T. Numasawa, N. Shiba and H. Tasaki, JHEP 1506 (2015) 187), we calculate the EE for arbitrary pure as well as mixed states in terms of eigenstates of the transfer matrix in 1+1 dimensional lattice gauge theory. We find that the EE of an arbitrary pure state does not depend on the lattice spacing, thus giving the EE in the continuum limit, and show that the EE for an arbitrary pure state is independent of the real (Minkowski) time evolution. We also explicitly demonstrate the dependence of EE on the gauge fixing at the boundaries between two subspaces, which was pointed out for general cases in the paper [1]. In addition, we calculate the EE at zero as well as finite temperature by the replica method, and show that our result in the continuum limit corresponds to the result obtained before in the continuum theory, with a specific value of the counter term, which is otherwise arbitrary in the continuum calculation. We confirm the gauge dependence of the EE also for the replica method.

Towards Lattice QCD Baryon Forces at the Physical Point: First Results

Lattice QCD calculations of baryon forces are performed for the first time with (almost) physical quark masses. $N_f = 2+1$ dynamical clover fermion gauge configurations are generated at the lattice spacing of $a \simeq 0.085$ fm on a $(96 a)^4 \simeq (8.2 {\rm fm})^4$ lattice with quark masses corresponding to $(m_π, m_K) \simeq (146, 525)$ MeV. Baryon forces are calculated using the time-dependent HAL QCD method. In this report, we study $ΞΞ$ and $NN$ systems both in $^1S_0$ and $^3S_1$-$^3D_1$ channels, and the results for the central and tensor forces as well as phase shifts in the $ΞΞ$ $(^1S_0)$ channel are presented.

Flow equation for the large $N$ scalar model and induced geometries

We study the proposal that a $d+1$ dimensional induced metric is constructed from a $d$ dimensional field theory using gradient flow. Applying the idea to the O($N$) $φ^4$ model and normalizing the flow field, we have shown in the large $N$ limit that the induced metric is finite and universal in the sense that it does not depend on the details of the flow equation and the original field theory except for the renormalized mass, which is the only relevant quantity in this limit. We have found that the induced metric describes Euclidean Anti-de-Sitter (AdS) space in both ultra-violet (UV) and infra-red (IR) limits of the flow direction, where the radius of the AdS is bigger in the IR than in the UV.

Encoding field theories into gravities

We propose a method to give a $d+1$ geometry from a $d$ dimensional quantum field theory in the large N expansion. We first construct a $d+1$ dimensional field from the $d$ dimensional one using the gradient flow equation, whose flow time $t$ represents the energy scale of the system such that $t\rightarrow 0$ corresponds to the ultra-violet (UV) while $t\rightarrow\infty$ to the infra-red (IR). We define the induced metric using $d+1$ dimensional field operators. We show that the metric defined in this way becomes classical in the large N limit: quantum fluctuations of the metric are suppressed as 1/N due to the large $N$ factorization property. As a concrete example, we apply our method to the O(N) non-linear $σ$ model in two dimensions. We calculate the three dimensional induced metric, which describes an AdS space in the massless limit. We finally discuss several open issues for future investigations.

A Fast Algorithm for Lattice Hyperonic Potentials

We describe an efficient algorithm to compute a large number of baryon-baryon interactions from $NN$ to $ΞΞ$ by means of HAL QCD method, which lays the groundwork for the nearly physical point lattice QCD calculation with volume $(96a)^4\approx$($8.2$fm)$^4$. Preliminary results of $ΛN$ potential calculated with quark masses corresponding to ($m_π$,$m_{K}$)$\approx$(146,525)MeV are presented.

Hadron Interactions from lattice QCD

We review our strategy to study hadron interactions from lattice QCD using newly proposed potential method. We first explain our strategy in the case of nuclear potentials and its application to nuclear physics. We then discuss the origin of the repulsive core, by adding strange quarks to the system. We also explore a possibility for H-dibaryon to exist in flavor SU(3) limit of lattice QCD. We conclude the paper with an application of our strategy to investigate the maximum mass of neutron stars.

First results of baryon interactions from lattice QCD with physical masses (1) -- General overview and two-nucleon forces --

We present the lattice QCD studies for baryon-baryon interactions for the first time with (almost) physical quark masses. $N_f = 2+1$ gauge configurations are generated with the Iwasaki gauge action and nonperturbatively $O(a)$-improved Wilson quark action with stout smearing on the lattice of $(96 a)^4 \simeq (8.2 {\rm fm})^4$ with $a \simeq 0.085$ fm, where $m_π\simeq 146$ MeV and $m_K \simeq 525$ MeV. Baryon forces are calculated from Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) correlation functions using the time-dependent HAL QCD method. In this report, we first give the general overview of the theoretical frameworks essential to the physical point calculation of baryon forces. We then present the numerical results for the two-nucleon central and tensor forces in $^3S_1$-$^3D_1$ coupled channel and the central force in $^1S_0$ channel. In particular, a clear signal is obtained for the tensor force.

Generalized Gradient Flow Equation and Its Applications

We propose a generalization of the gradient flow equation for quantum field theories with nonlinearly realized symmetry. Applying the equation to $\mathcal{N}=1$ $SU(N)$ super Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions, we construct a supersymmetric extension of the gradient flow equation. Choosing an appropriate modification term to damp the gauge degree of freedom, we obtain a gradient flow equation which is closed within the Wess-Zumino gauge. We also apply the equation to the $O(N)$ nonlinear sigma model in two dimensions at large $N$, and show that the two point function in terms of the flowed field is non-perturbatively finite.

Walking in the 3-dimensional large $N$ scalar model

The solvability of the three-dimensional O($N$) scalar field theory in the large $N$ limit makes it an ideal toy model exhibiting "walking" behavior, expected in some SU($N$) gauge theories with a large number of fermion flavors. We study the model using lattice regularization and show that when the ratio of the particle mass to an effective 4-point coupling (with dimension mass) is small, the beta function associated to the running 4-point coupling is "walking". We also study lattice artifacts and finite size effects, and find that while the former can be sizable at realistic correlation length, the latter are under control already at lattice sizes a few ($\sim$3) correlation lengths. We show the robustness of the walking phenomenon by showing that it can also be observed by studying physical observables such as the scattering phase shifts and the mass gap in finite volume.

Gradient Flow of O(N) nonlinear sigma model at large N

We study the gradient flow equation for the O(N) nonlinear sigma model in two dimensions at large N. We parameterize solution of the field at flow time t in powers of bare fields by introducing the coefficient function X_n for the n-th power term (n=1,3,...). Reducing the flow equation by keeping only the contributions at leading order in large N, we obtain a set of equations for X_n's, which can be solved iteratively starting from n=1. For n=1 case, we find an explicit form of the exact solution. Using this solution, we show that the two point function at finite flow time t is finite. As an application, we obtain the non-perturbative running coupling defined from the energy density. We also discuss the solution for n=3 case.

Pion masses in 2-flavor QCD with $η$ condensation

We investigate the 2-flavor QCD with non-degenerate quark masses at low-energy, using the chiral perturbation theory including the $η$ meson and anomaly effects. For the fixed $m_d\not=0$, the neutral pion becomes massless at two values of $m_u$, between which a spontaneously CP broken phase appears with the neutral pion condensation. We then show that the topological susceptibility diverges at these two critical points. We also consider the case of $m_u=m_d$ but $θ=π$, equivalently $m_u= - m_d$ with $θ= 0$ by the chiral rotation and show that the CP symmetry is spontaneously broken by the $η$ condensation at small $m$. Around $m=0$, three pions become Nambu-Goldstone modes, showing non-standard behavior that $m_π^2 = O(m^2)$, which, however, is consistent with the chiral Ward-Takahashi identities.}

Coupled channel approach to strangeness S = -2 baryon-bayron interactions in Lattice QCD

The baryon-baryon interactions with strangeness S = -2 with the flavor SU(3) breaking are calculated for the first time by using the HAL QCD method extended to coupled channel system in lattice QCD. The potential matrices are extracted from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions obtained by the 2+1 flavor gauge configurations of CP-PACS/JLQCD Collaborations with a physical volume of 1.93 fm cubed and with m_pi/m_K = 0.96, 0.90, 0.86. The spatial structure and the quark mass dependence of the potential matrix in the baryon basis and in the SU(3) basis are investigated.
