Small noise asymptotics for a class of jump-diffusions with heavy tails for large times

In this work, we investigate positive recurrent Lévy diffusions driven by appropriately scaled Brownian motion and $α$-stable process (with $1<α<2$) in the small noise regime. Supposing that in the vanishing noise limit, our Lévy diffusion approaches a deterministic system with a unique asymptotically stable fixed point, we show that the limiting behavior of the one-dimensional marginal distribution at large times is dictated by the optimal value of a deterministic control problem, just as in the classical case of diffusions driven by small variance Brownian motion. In our case, the control is allowed to have two parts: continuous control and impulse control.

Simultaneous Small Noise Limit for Singularly Perturbed Slow-Fast Coupled Diffusions

We consider a simultaneous small noise limit for a singularly perturbed coupled diffusion described by \begin{eqnarray*} dX^{\varepsilon}_t &=& b(X^{\varepsilon}_t, Y^{\varepsilon}_t)dt + \varepsilon^αdB_t, dY^{\varepsilon}_t &=& - \frac{1}{\varepsilon} \nabla_yU(X^{\varepsilon}_t, Y^{\varepsilon}_t)dt + \frac{s(\varepsilon)}{\sqrt{\varepsilon}} dW_t, \end{eqnarray*} where $B_t, W_t$ are independent Brownian motions on ${\mathbb R}^d$ and ${\mathbb R}^m$ respectively, $b : \mathbb{R}^d \times \mathbb{R}^m \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^d$, $U : \mathbb{R}^d \times \mathbb{R}^m \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ and $s :(0,\infty) \rightarrow (0,\infty)$. We impose regularity assumptions on $b$, $U$ and let $0 < α< 1.$ When $s(\varepsilon)$ goes to zero slower than a prescribed rate as $\varepsilon \rightarrow 0$, we characterize all weak limit points of $X^{\varepsilon}$, as $\varepsilon \rightarrow 0$, as solutions to a differential equation driven by a measurable vector field. Under an additional assumption on the behaviour of $U(x, \cdot)$ at its global minima we characterize all limit points as Filippov solutions to the differential equation.

One-dimensional Voter Model Interface Revisited

We consider the voter model on Z, starting with all 1's to the left of the origin and all 0's to the right of the origin. It is known that if the associated random walk kernel p has zero mean and a finite r-th moment for any r>3, then the evolution of the boundaries of the interface region between 1's and 0's converge in distribution to a standard Brownian motion (B_t)_{t>0} under diffusive scaling of space and time. This convergence fails when p has an infinite r-th moment for any r<3, due to the loss of tightness caused by a few isolated 1's appearing deep within the regions of all 0's (and vice versa) at exceptional times. In this note, we show that as long as p has a finite second moment, the measure-valued process induced by the rescaled voter model configuration is tight, and converges weakly to the measure-valued process 1_{x 0.

Blowup and Conditionings of $ψ$-super Brownian Exit Measures

We extend earlier results on conditioning of super-Brownian motion to general branching rules. We obtain representations of the conditioned process, both as an $h$-transform, and as an unconditioned superprocess with immigration along a branching tree. Unlike the finite-variance branching setting, these trees are no longer binary, and strictly positive mass can be created at branch points. This construction is singular in the case of stable branching. We analyze this singularity first by approaching the stable branching function via analytic approximations. In this context the singularity of the stable case can be attributed to blow up of the mass created at the first branch of the tree. Other ways of approaching the stable case yield a branching tree that is different in law. To explain this anomaly we construct a family of martingales whose backbones have multiple limit laws.

Correction to: Branching-coalescing particle systems

In the article titled "Branching-Coalescing Particle Systems" published in Probability Theory and Related Fields 131(3), pages 376-414, (2005), Theorem 7 as stated there is incorrect. Indeed, we show by counterexample that the equality that we claimed there to hold for all time, in general holds only for almost every time with respect to Lebesgue measure. We prove a weaker version of the theorem that is still sufficient for our applications in the mentioned paper.

Survival of contact processes on the hierarchical group

We consider contact processes on the hierarchical group, where sites infect other sites at a rate depending on their hierarchical distance, and sites become healthy with a constant recovery rate. If the infection rates decay too fast as a function of the hierarchical distance, then we show that the critical recovery rate is zero. On the other hand, we derive sufficient conditions on the speed of decay of the infection rates for the process to exhibit a nontrivial phase transition between extinction and survival. For our sufficient conditions, we use a coupling argument that compares contact processes on the hierarchical group with freedom two with contact processes on a renormalized lattice. An interesting novelty in this renormalization argument is the use of a result due to Rogers and Pitman on Markov functionals.

Infinite dimensional stochastic differential equations of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type

We consider the operator $$\sL f(x)=\tfrac12 \sum_{i,j=1}^\infty a_{ij}(x)\frac{\del^2 f}{\del x_i \del x_j}(x)-\sum_{i=1}^\infty \lam_i x_i b_i(x) \frac{\del f}{\del x_i}(x).$$ We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions to the martingale problem for this operator under appropriate conditions on the $a_{ij}, b_i$, and $\lam_i$. The process corresponding to $\sL$ solves an infinite dimensional stochastic differential equation similar to that for the infinite dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.
