Decouple and Rectify: Semantics-Preserving Structural Enhancement for Open-Vocabulary Remote Sensing Segmentation

Open-vocabulary semantic segmentation in the remote sensing (RS) field requires both language-aligned recognition and fine-grained spatial delineation. Although CLIP offers robust semantic generalization, its global-aligned visual representations inherently struggle to capture structural details. Recent methods attempt to compensate for this by introducing RS-pretrained DINO features. However, these methods treat CLIP representations as a monolithic semantic space and cannot localize where structural enhancement is required, failing to effectively delineate boundaries while risking the disruption of CLIP's semantic integrity. To address this limitation, we propose DR-Seg, a novel decouple-and-rectify framework in this paper. Our method is motivated by the key observation that CLIP feature channels exhibit distinct functional heterogeneity rather than forming a uniform semantic space. Building on this insight, DR-Seg decouples CLIP features into semantics-dominated and structure-dominated subspaces, enabling targeted structural enhancement by DINO without distorting language-aligned semantics. Subsequently, a prior-driven graph rectification module injects high-fidelity structural priors under DINO guidance to form a refined branch, while an uncertainty-guided adaptive fusion module dynamically integrates this refined branch with the original CLIP branch for final prediction. Comprehensive experiments across eight benchmarks demonstrate that DR-Seg establishes a new state-of-the-art.

3DSceneEditor: Controllable 3D Scene Editing with Gaussian Splatting

The creation of 3D scenes has traditionally been both labor-intensive and costly, requiring designers to meticulously configure 3D assets and environments. Recent advancements in generative AI, including text-to-3D and image-to-3D methods, have dramatically reduced the complexity and cost of this process. However, current techniques for editing complex 3D scenes continue to rely on generally interactive multi-step, 2D-to-3D projection methods and diffusion-based techniques, which often lack precision in control and hamper interactive-rate performance. In this work, we propose ***3DSceneEditor***, a fully 3D-based paradigm for interactive-rate, precise editing of intricate 3D scenes using Gaussian Splatting. Unlike conventional methods, 3DSceneEditor operates through a streamlined 3D pipeline, enabling direct Gaussian-based manipulation for efficient, high-quality edits based on input prompts. The proposed framework (i) integrates a pre-trained instance segmentation model for semantic labeling; (ii) employs a zero-shot grounding approach with CLIP to align target objects with user prompts; and (iii) applies scene modifications, such as object addition, repositioning, recoloring, replacing, and removal--directly on Gaussians. Extensive experimental results show that 3DSceneEditor surpasses existing state-of-the-art techniques in terms of both editing precision and efficiency, establishing a new benchmark for efficient and interactive 3D scene customization.

Active Advantage-Aligned Online Reinforcement Learning with Offline Data

Online reinforcement learning (RL) enhances policies through direct interactions with the environment, but faces challenges related to sample efficiency. In contrast, offline RL leverages extensive pre-collected data to learn policies, but often produces suboptimal results due to limited data coverage. Recent efforts integrate offline and online RL in order to harness the advantages of both approaches. However, effectively combining online and offline RL remains challenging due to issues that include catastrophic forgetting, lack of robustness to data quality and limited sample efficiency in data utilization. In an effort to address these challenges, we introduce A3RL, which incorporates a novel confidence aware Active Advantage Aligned (A3) sampling strategy that dynamically prioritizes data aligned with the policy's evolving needs from both online and offline sources, optimizing policy improvement. Moreover, we provide theoretical insights into the effectiveness of our active sampling strategy and conduct diverse empirical experiments and ablation studies, demonstrating that our method outperforms competing online RL techniques that leverage offline data.

Leverage Knowledge Graph and Large Language Model for Law Article Recommendation: A Case Study of Chinese Criminal Law

Judicial efficiency is critical to social stability. However, in many countries worldwide, grassroots courts face substantial case backlogs, and judicial decisions remain heavily dependent on judges' cognitive efforts, with insufficient intelligent tools to enhance efficiency. To address this issue, we propose a highly efficient law article recommendation approach combining a Knowledge Graph (KG) and a Large Language Model (LLM). First, we construct a Case-Enhanced Law Article Knowledge Graph (CLAKG) to store current law articles, historical case information, and their interconnections, alongside an LLM-based automated construction method. Building on this, we propose a closed-loop law article recommendation framework integrating graph embedding-based retrieval and KG-grounded LLM reasoning. Experiments on judgment documents from China Judgments Online demonstrate that our method boosts law article recommendation accuracy from 0.549 to 0.694, outperforming strong baselines significantly. To support reproducibility and future research, all source code and processed datasets are publicly available on GitHub (see Data Availability Statement).

Entropy-Guided GRVQ for Ultra-Low Bitrate Neural Speech Codec

Neural audio codec (NAC) is essential for reconstructing high-quality speech signals and generating discrete representations for downstream speech language models. However, ensuring accurate semantic modeling while maintaining high-fidelity reconstruction under ultra-low bitrate constraints remains challenging. We propose an entropy-guided group residual vector quantization (EG-GRVQ) for an ultra-low bitrate neural speech codec, which retains a semantic branch for linguistic information and incorporates an entropy-guided grouping strategy in the acoustic branch. Assuming that channel activations follow approximately Gaussian statistics, the variance of each channel can serve as a principled proxy for its information content. Based on this assumption, we partition the encoder output such that each group carries an equal share of the total information. This balanced allocation improves codebook efficiency and reduces redundancy. Trained on LibriTTS and VCTK, our model shows improvements in perceptual quality and intelligibility metrics under ultra-low bitrate conditions, with a focus on codec-level fidelity for communication-oriented scenarios.

Mid-infrared germanium-on-silicon waveguide sensor for therapeutic drug monitoring of phenytoin

We report the design, fabrication and characterization of evanescent mid-infrared germanium-on-silicon waveguide sensors for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). TDM requires rapid and accurate quantification of serum drug levels but existing clinical assays rely on laboratory-based instrumentation that limits point-of-care deployment. In this work, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy was used to analyze dried samples of the anti-seizure medication phenytoin in the spectral region of $λ$ = 5.6 - 6.0 $μ$m. A limit of detection of 2.20 mg/L was achieved for extracted samples, where phenytoin was first added to human serum and subsequently isolated using liquid-liquid extraction. This limit is significantly below the therapeutic window of 10 - 20 mg/L for phenytoin, enabling detection of sub-therapeutic concentrations. At the same time, the sensor maintains a consistent dose-dependent response up to 40 mg/L, demonstrating its capability to quantify concentrations across the therapeutic window and above the upper therapeutic limit. This validates the use of silicon photonics for biomedical infrared spectroscopy for patients undergoing drug therapy, whether the serum-drug concentration is either too high or too low. These results highlight the potential of mid-IR integrated photonics to form the basis of compact, scalable platforms for point-of-care TDM.

Geometry OR Tracker: Universal Geometric Operating Room Tracking

In operating rooms (OR), world-scale multi-view 3D tracking supports downstream applications such as surgeon behavior recognition, where physically meaningful quantities such as distances and motion statistics must be measured in meters. However, real clinical deployments rarely satisfy the geometric prerequisites for stable multi-view fusion and tracking: camera calibration and RGB-D registration are always unreliable, leading to cross-view geometric inconsistency that produces "ghosting" during fusion and degrades 3D trajectories in a shared OR coordinate frame. To address this, we introduce Geometry OR Tracker, a two-stage pipeline that first rectifies imprecise calibration into a scaleconsistent and geometrically consistent camera setup with a single global scale via a Multi-view Metric Geometry Rectification module, and then performs Occlusion-Robust 3D Point Tracking directly in the unified OR world frame. On the MM-OR benchmark, improved geometric consistency translates into tracking gains: our rectification front-end reduces cross-view depth disagreement by more than 30$\times$ compared to raw calibration. Ablation studies further demonstrate the relationship between calibration quality and tracking accuracy, showing that improved geometric consistency yields stronger world-frame tracking.

Time2General: Learning Spatiotemporal Invariant Representations for Domain-Generalization Video Semantic Segmentation

Domain Generalized Video Semantic Segmentation (DGVSS) is trained on a single labeled driving domain and is directly deployed on unseen domains without target labels and test-time adaptation while maintaining temporally consistent predictions over video streams. In practice, both domain shift and temporal-sampling shift break correspondence-based propagation and fixed-stride temporal aggregation, causing severe frame-to-frame flicker even in label-stable regions. We propose Time2General, a DGVSS framework built on Stability Queries. Time2General introduces a Spatio-Temporal Memory Decoder that aggregates multi-frame context into a clip-level spatio-temporal memory and decodes temporally consistent per-frame masks without explicit correspondence propagation. To further suppress flicker and improve robustness to varying sampling rates, the Masked Temporal Consistency Loss is proposed to regularize temporal prediction discrepancies across different strides, and randomize training strides to expose the model to diverse temporal gaps. Extensive experiments on multiple driving benchmarks show that Time2General achieves a substantial improvement in cross-domain accuracy and temporal stability over prior DGSS and VSS baselines while running at up to 18 FPS. Code will be released after the review process.

On the Mechanism and Dynamics of Modular Addition: Fourier Features, Lottery Ticket, and Grokking

We present a comprehensive analysis of how two-layer neural networks learn features to solve the modular addition task. Our work provides a full mechanistic interpretation of the learned model and a theoretical explanation of its training dynamics. While prior work has identified that individual neurons learn single-frequency Fourier features and phase alignment, it does not fully explain how these features combine into a global solution. We bridge this gap by formalizing a diversification condition that emerges during training when overparametrized, consisting of two parts: phase symmetry and frequency diversification. We prove that these properties allow the network to collectively approximate a flawed indicator function on the correct logic for the modular addition task. While individual neurons produce noisy signals, the phase symmetry enables a majority-voting scheme that cancels out noise, allowing the network to robustly identify the correct sum. Furthermore, we explain the emergence of these features under random initialization via a lottery ticket mechanism. Our gradient flow analysis proves that frequencies compete within each neuron, with the "winner" determined by its initial spectral magnitude and phase alignment. From a technical standpoint, we provide a rigorous characterization of the layer-wise phase coupling dynamics and formalize the competitive landscape using the ODE comparison lemma. Finally, we use these insights to demystify grokking, characterizing it as a three-stage process involving memorization followed by two generalization phases, driven by the competition between loss minimization and weight decay.

Positive normalized solutions to a singular elliptic equation with a $L^2$-supercritical nonlinearity

This paper studies the existence of positive normalized solutions to the singular elliptic equation \[ -Δu + λu = u^{-r} + u^{p-1} \quad \text{in } Ω, \] with the Dirichlet boundary condition $u=0$ on $\partialΩ$ and the normalization constraint $\int_Ωu^2\,dx = ρ$. Here $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ ($N\ge3$) is a smooth bounded domain, $0 0$, the problem admits a positive solution $(λ,u)\in\mathbb{R}\times H_0^1(Ω)$. The proof is based on a variational approach using a regularized functional and a careful analysis of the limiting process.

Temporal Beam Self-Cleaning in Second-Harmonic Generation

The spatial-temporal beam quality of laser sources is crucial for applications such as nonlinear spectroscopy and master oscillator power amplification systems. However, the temporal stability remains challenged by issues like line-width broadening and high-power demand in efforts to improve it. In this work, we investigate the effect of the second-harmonic generation process on the laser characteristics under three longitudinal mode regimes: single-longitudinal-mode, dual-longitudinal-mode, and multi-longitudinal-mode. The results demonstrate that the second-harmonic generation process effectively stabilizes the temporal characteristics of the laser and enhances its correlation, leading to a temporally clean output beam. The physical mechanism of the observed temporal stabilization effect can be attributed to a high-peak-pulse attenuation effect, jointly induced by nonuniform longitudinal-mode depletion and phase preservation in the residual fundamental wave. Statistical analysis indicates that at the maximum fundamental-wave power in the multi-longitudinal-mode regime, the standard deviation and peak-to-valley values derived from the normalized temporal profile decrease from 0.6122 and 5.6846 for the fundamental wave to 0.189 and 0.8847 for the residual fundamental wave. Meanwhile, the background level of the intensity auto-correlation function rises from ~0.72 to ~0.96, revealing its evolution toward a more coherent state. To the best of our knowledge, this research presents the first demonstration of laser temporal stabilization and correlation enhancement via second-harmonic generation. It not only deepens the comprehension of second-harmonic generation mechanisms, but also opens up a new avenue for realizing temporal beam self-cleaning of light.

First Thin-Film Lithium Tantalate Polarization Controller Enabling Reset-Free Mrad/s Tracking for Optical Interconnects

The rapid escalation of computing power driven by large-scale artificial intelligence is placing unprecedented demands on the bandwidth, latency, and energy efficiency of data-center interconnects (DCIs). Self-homodyne coherent (SHC) transmission is a promising architecture because it preserves the spectral efficiency of coherent detection while greatly simplifying digital signal processing, but its practical deployment is critically limited by random and often ultrafast state-of-polarization (SOP) fluctuations that induce carrier fading and destabilize coherent reception. Here we report the first integrated polarization controller based on thin-film lithium tantalate (TFLT), enabling reset-free polarization tracking at Mrad/s speeds. The four-stage electro-optic device exhibits polarization-dependent loss (PDL) below 0.3 dB, a half-wave voltage below 2.5 V, high modulation bandwidth, and negligible DC drift. To accommodate the finite tuning range of integrated phase shifters, we develop a finite-boundary gradient-descent (FBGD) control algorithm that ensures reset-free SOP evolution with no phase jump. The implemented adaptive polarization controller (APC) is validated through both standalone polarization-tracking measurements and a dual-polarization 16-QAM SHC 400-Gbps transmission system. Transient polarization disturbances can be tracked at speeds up to 2 Mrad/s, while stable reset-free operation under continuous polarization disturbances is maintained up to 1 Mrad/s. This reset-free performance represents more than doubling the state of the art, while the pre-FEC bit-error rates remain below the HD-FEC threshold under realistic DCI conditions and lightning-scale polarization disturbances. These results establish TFLT as a new platform for ultrafast, low-power, reset-free, and drift-free polarization control in coherent optical interconnects and beyond.

SGS-3D: High-Fidelity 3D Instance Segmentation via Reliable Semantic Mask Splitting and Growing

Accurate 3D instance segmentation is crucial for high-quality scene understanding in the 3D vision domain. However, 3D instance segmentation based on 2D-to-3D lifting approaches struggle to produce precise instance-level segmentation, due to accumulated errors introduced during the lifting process from ambiguous semantic guidance and insufficient depth constraints. To tackle these challenges, we propose splitting and growing reliable semantic mask for high-fidelity 3D instance segmentation (SGS-3D), a novel "split-then-grow" framework that first purifies and splits ambiguous lifted masks using geometric primitives, and then grows them into complete instances within the scene. Unlike existing approaches that directly rely on raw lifted masks and sacrifice segmentation accuracy, SGS-3D serves as a training-free refinement method that jointly fuses semantic and geometric information, enabling effective cooperation between the two levels of representation. Specifically, for semantic guidance, we introduce a mask filtering strategy that leverages the co-occurrence of 3D geometry primitives to identify and remove ambiguous masks, thereby ensuring more reliable semantic consistency with the 3D object instances. For the geometric refinement, we construct fine-grained object instances by exploiting both spatial continuity and high-level features, particularly in the case of semantic ambiguity between distinct objects. Experimental results on ScanNet200, ScanNet++, and KITTI-360 demonstrate that SGS-3D substantially improves segmentation accuracy and robustness against inaccurate masks from pre-trained models, yielding high-fidelity object instances while maintaining strong generalization across diverse indoor and outdoor environments. Code is available at https://github.com/wangchaolei7/SGS-3D.

Leveraging Depth and Language for Open-Vocabulary Domain-Generalized Semantic Segmentation

Open-Vocabulary semantic segmentation (OVSS) and domain generalization in semantic segmentation (DGSS) highlight a subtle complementarity that motivates Open-Vocabulary Domain-Generalized Semantic Segmentation (OV-DGSS). OV-DGSS aims to generate pixel-level masks for unseen categories while maintaining robustness across unseen domains, a critical capability for real-world scenarios such as autonomous driving in adverse conditions. We introduce Vireo, a novel single-stage framework for OV-DGSS that unifies the strengths of OVSS and DGSS for the first time. Vireo builds upon the frozen Visual Foundation Models (VFMs) and incorporates scene geometry via Depth VFMs to extract domain-invariant structural features. To bridge the gap between visual and textual modalities under domain shift, we propose three key components: (1) GeoText Prompts, which align geometric features with language cues and progressively refine VFM encoder representations; (2) Coarse Mask Prior Embedding (CMPE) for enhancing gradient flow for faster convergence and stronger textual influence; and (3) the Domain-Open-Vocabulary Vector Embedding Head (DOV-VEH), which fuses refined structural and semantic features for robust prediction. Comprehensive evaluation on these components demonstrates the effectiveness of our designs. Our proposed Vireo achieves the state-of-the-art performance and surpasses existing methods by a large margin in both domain generalization and open-vocabulary recognition, offering a unified and scalable solution for robust visual understanding in diverse and dynamic environments. Impact of electronic correlations on the superconductivity of high-pressure CeH$_9$

Rare-earth superhydrides have attracted considerable attention because of their high critical superconducting temperature under extreme pressures. They are known to have localized valence electrons, implying strong electronic correlations. However, such many-body effects are rarely included in first-principles studies of rare-earth superhydrides because of the complexity of their high-pressure phases. In this work, we use a combined density functional theory and dynamical mean-field theory approach to study both electrons and phonons in the prototypical rare-earth superhydride CeH$_9$, shedding light on the impact of electronic correlations on its critical temperature for phonon-mediated superconductivity. Our findings indicate that electronic correlations result in a larger electronic density at the Fermi level, a bigger superconducting gap, and softer vibrational modes associated with hydrogen atoms. Together, the inclusion of these correlation signatures increases the Migdal-Eliashberg superconducting critical temperature from 47 K to 96 K, close to the measured 95 K. Our results reconcile experimental observations and theoretical predictions for CeH$_9$ and herald a path towards the quantitative modeling of phonon-mediated superconductivity for interacting electron systems.

Semantic4Safety: Causal Insights from Zero-shot Street View Imagery Segmentation for Urban Road Safety

Street-view imagery (SVI) offers a fine-grained lens on traffic risk, yet two fundamental challenges persist: (1) how to construct street-level indicators that capture accident-related features, and (2) how to quantify their causal impacts across different accident types. To address these challenges, we propose Semantic4Safety, a framework that applies zero-shot semantic segmentation to SVIs to derive 11 interpretable streetscape indicators, and integrates road type as contextual information to analyze approximately 30,000 accident records in Austin. Specifically, we train an eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) multi-class classifier and use Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) to interpret both global and local feature contributions, and then apply Generalized Propensity Score (GPS) weighting and Average Treatment Effect (ATE) estimation to control confounding and quantify causal effects. Results uncover heterogeneous, accident-type-specific causal patterns: features capturing scene complexity, exposure, and roadway geometry dominate predictive power; larger drivable area and emergency space reduce risk, whereas excessive visual openness can increase it. By bridging predictive modeling with causal inference, Semantic4Safety supports targeted interventions and high-risk corridor diagnosis, offering a scalable, data-informed tool for urban road safety planning.

Unlocking Out-of-Distribution Generalization in Transformers via Recursive Latent Space Reasoning

Systematic, compositional generalization beyond the training distribution remains a core challenge in machine learning -- and a critical bottleneck for the emergent reasoning abilities of modern language models. This work investigates out-of-distribution (OOD) generalization in Transformer networks using a GSM8K-style modular arithmetic on computational graphs task as a testbed. We introduce and explore a set of four architectural mechanisms aimed at enhancing OOD generalization: (i) input-adaptive recurrence; (ii) algorithmic supervision; (iii) anchored latent representations via a discrete bottleneck; and (iv) an explicit error-correction mechanism. Collectively, these mechanisms yield an architectural approach for native and scalable latent space reasoning in Transformer networks with robust algorithmic generalization capabilities. We complement these empirical results with a detailed mechanistic interpretability analysis that reveals how these mechanisms give rise to robust OOD generalization abilities.
